iso mood changing nail polishes from my childhood

i remember being somewhat obsessed with with some thermochromatic nail polishes i used to find and longs or now cvs. they were in those same exact tall urban decay bottles from the late 90s early 00s. i remember “mood changing” or something like that being in big lava lamp style font (or something very 70scoded) on the bottle i’m sure they were probably capitalizing on that small boost of 70s revival right before 9/11 (iirc, though my memories from this time period
are very touch and go) anyway i maybe got too in depth here. and im sure this specific polish no longer exists, or if someone has some, it’s probably no longer color shifting atp… but for some reason for peace of mind, i want to remember what that polish was.

i remember in my early 20s i ended up buying a bunch of vintage bottles and getting some fun use out of them, but due to the bottle type, they all ended up drying up, and i tossed them during a move, not realizing that i could have reconstituted them 🫣🥺 though i think the choline shift died with age on some before they dried up.

ltdr: i miss old “mood changing” color shifting polish, trying to remember brand name, but also iso recs for other thermo(or uv)chromatic changing polishes

Wet 'n' Wild Crystalic - 491B N.Y.P.D. (Y2K)

Sorry about the couple days old manicure, but I really wanted to post this one since I haven't seen it before! I received this from my amazing friend who has had it since around 2001, and she just doesn't wear polish anymore. Lucky me 💙 This is a gorgeous blue that isn't too dark, but it fades to a dark gray at the edges, which is really cool effect. I saw someone selling it on eBay for $35, good for them if they can get it, but I'll keep mine and treasure it 🥰

Sweet Georgia Brown - Wish Upon a Star

I decided to bust out one from my youth! The formula is extremely thin and watery, even after all these years. Two coats used - such a unique jade green shade. I have a other Sweet Georgia Brown shade called Orange Slush that I'll have to post sometime!

ID OPI

Can anyone suggest what this shade might be? Looks like a pre-2000 bottle since it lists the cities on the bottle. The color is a little more on the purple side than the picture shows.

Naturistics in the shade Taffy 1855-32🫧🪽✨

Found this in my closet from 2002!! I did 2 coats& a gel top coat a day after. Three coats would have made it darker, but I like the lighter shade actually. The application was a bit difficult because the brush was frayed and I had to trim it. But not bad overall!

Rimmel 60 Seconds - Climax - 2000's

I have a backlog of manicures to post because I've been a bit lazy about it. This one is a Rimmel polish which is purple with a pink flash. I always love this sort of color! Second to last photo is in shade. Last photo is an ad I found from the mid 2000's.

Was told to post here- one of my favorites :)

OPI Cosmonot Tonight Honey!

I found this old green label OPI at Marshall’s of all places this evening. When researching, this polish was apparently released in 2007, the same year as the discontinuation of the green label. So I probably just bought 19 year old nail polish from Marshall’s.

Today's finds all for $4.50

OPI My Private Jet, OPI Midnight in Moscow, Orly Pink Chocolate, Revlon ????, Sally Hansen Hard as Nails ????, Nail Treats(?) Copper Penny, Deborah Lippmann Your My Disco

I got these (and one shirt) at a pay by the pound thrift store, paid a total of $4.50. If anyone knows what color the Revlon / Sally Hansen ones are, I'd love to know! I tried googling a bit but wasn't 100% sure on any of them. I also tried finding info about the "Nail Treats Best Sellers" but didn't find much.

90s Avon Stroke of Salmon

This polish was called Single Stroke in the US, and One Stroke in Canada, meant to be full coverage in one coat and quick drying. This line was launched in 1987 and was still available till the mid 90s. I’m not sure how old this one is so I’m going with 90s. It looks like a bright warm red in the photo but it’s really more of a bright orangey coral.

millennium nail systems

has anyone heard of this brand? I got these in a vinted haul and they all smell really strongly of toluene and camphor which made me think they might be oldish? but the bottle design is throwing me off. I found a dodgy site from poland that had been selling these at some point, but other than that my googling hasn’t been fruitful

Mini-Museum update!

There's still work to be done, I'm currently cataloguing everything properly, hunting down dates etc so I can put card labels next to things, with further details on a list on the inside of the doors, there's also some more advertisements to frame & hang. But, it's almost there.

I'll also add this isn't everything! My OPI, Revlon, ORLY, Sally Hansen & various other polishes are in some helmers in my home office, which is just off the landing where these cupboards are. I've tried to pick the most interesting & uncommon pieces for the displays.

In the green cupboard there is:

- Top Left: James Bond tie ins, & some 60s Mary Quant, Avon, & 80s Barbara Hulanicki.

- Top Right: Cosmetics 1900-1960s, including Tangee, Coty, Revlon, Max Factor, Elizabeth Arden, Yardley, Rimmel etc

- Bottom Left: Perfumes 1920s-1970s, & Cosmetics 1970s-1990s, more of the same brands, also Miners, Evette, & other British brands.

- Bottom Right: Cutex 1920s-1990s

In the purple cupboard:

- Top Shelf, 90s pallets/gift sets

- Next shelf: Y2K(ish) Urban Decay, fcuk, Ruby & Millie, MAC, Hard Candy, 17.

- Top pull out shelf: Urban Decay eyeshadows.

- Next shelf: British brands 1930s-2000, Boots, Body Shop, St Micheal (Marks & Spencers), & some Clinique I had nowhere else to put.

- Pull out shelf: Late 90s/early 00s Boots No. 7 nail polish.

- Pull out shelf: Late 90s/early 00s, Boots 17, Rimmel, Ruby & Millie, Bourjois.

- Pull out shelf: Designer 90s-Present, Chanel, YSL, Dior, Estée Lauder.

- Pull out shelf (not pictured): Boots No.7 lipsticks.

- Drawer: various bits I don't have room to display, and books.

Also I don't have a problem, just a perfectly normal hobby I am interested in a perfectly normal amount. Honest.

Dupes?

I recently identified my long lost favourite childhood nail polish as Avon Mirror Shine. I’m pretty sure it’s discontinued now and originals seem hard to source. Anyone know of any dupes?

I remember it had a really dark purple polish, but was so packed with silver glitter it dried down to the most gorgeous lavender silver with a foil like finish 💜

Pure Ice First Love Swatch

Sunlight swatch of First Love. This color is sheer but buildable. I am wearing two coats in this picture.

Edit: I failed to mention that this polish has a green-yellow shimmer in the right lighting. That is unfortunately not captured in the picture above, but I think it is an interesting quality.

Anyone know what years these may be from?

Recently moved and was just going through old stuff and found my mom’s old makeup case I remember her having from maybe 2008-2013 and found these two nail polishes. She did nails from 2002-2012 so I know she had a really big polish collection and these are some of the survivors of the collection I’m assuming.
