I was so nervous for the OA for this class and ended up rescheduling it two times before attempting it this morning. I passed with exemplary!!! For anyone nervous about it, I used chatgpt to quiz me and that seemed to work like a charm! Don't overthink! You got this!!!

Mentor trouble

Has anyone changed mentors or could anyone tell me if this is normal. I feel like every-time I ask her a question or to do something she doesn’t know and refers me to someone else. Now she’s on vacation till the 13th. Last month she was gone like a week plus. And I’ve had experiences where I was insanely frustrated and she criticized my grammar which pissed me off. I just feel like it’s not a good fit and want a proactive mentor who will help me and not just say idk. Last week I asked her about what certification tests I need to take for PA said she didn’t know and didn’t really try to find out. Any questions is referred to someone else or says she doesn’t know. Then wants me to cc on her emails even after I sent because she was no help. I want to change mentors but nervous.

I need help on choosing the right degree?

I am 34(f) and currently work in hospitality . My last job I worked as a corporate trainer , would travel to locations for different restaurants and teach new staff on the pos systems. I ended up leaving this job in 2020 due to covid and because my dad is getting older. I take time through out the week to visit him and help him with tasks, therefore traveling was not ideal.

At my current job I am always assigned to be the one who communicates with the team, whether it’s staff or managers. I truly enjoy sticking up and communicating for people who feel they don’t have a voice . I also go out of my way to provide top notch customer service because I truly enjoy reminding people that kind people still exist.

On the side ,I write appeal letters for diabetics who are being denied coverage through their insurance company as I am also diabetic and understand the struggle.

I am currently looking at sophia classes and WGU classes and I am torn at what degree to dedicate to. Realistically I would like to obtain a bachelor’s degree that would help me land a remote role with flexibility to still help my dad each week . I am torn between data analytics, hr, business management and a few others.

Has anyone from the hospitality world gained a degree from wgu and landed a flexible remote role? If so what degree did you choose?

Done and Dusted

Started in February with a mostly-unrelated associate's degree in History from 20 years ago. Just finished my last class and applied for graduation today. I'll likely be going after my master's with how quickly I was able to do this, before moving into the alternate route to licensure program with the school district I work for.

For the record:

  • I'm currently working full time as a paraeducator (I was planning to have to do a bunch of courses during my summer break, but I ended up only having three by the time June came around, one of which was Statistics) at the school where my kid goes
  • My wife also works full-time, but was willing to take over most of the household stuff while I ground this out
  • I basically studied six-days a week. Generally 8 Hours on Sundays, 4 hours Mon-Thursday, with assessments on Saturdays. If I got done with coursework early, I would schedule assessment earlier and use the next days to start another course.

July 1st Curriculum & Instruction

Hi! Is anyone starting Master of Science Curriculum & Instruction program July 1st? Would love to start a group or something if so!😊 I’m nervous… this is my 5th year of teaching, so I haven’t been a “student” in 4 years.

Acceleration - Science Education

Any of you guys accelerate through your degree for a secondary science education degree?

My degree plan has 41 classes. I've done 5 on sophia. Starting bio w/lab today on study.com and wondering what it will look like if I transfer in with 15 classes done already 😅.

Thanks!

Basic Skills Exam

Im trying to register for the Basic Skills Exam. Im trying to do them all in 1 test instead of separately. It looks like im supposed to take either 5752 or 5751. Does anyone know the difference between the two. Any advice on taking them? Do I need to study for them? I’m an anxious test taker and need any advice I can get.

Masters in Elementary Ed in 6 months??

Title says it all, but I was wondering if anyone has finished this degree in 6 months aka 1 semester? I am confident about completing the coursework quickly but I'm worried about how long student teaching and placement is going to take.

For all of the school districts that are within driving distance, the application deadline for student teaching in the spring is November 14. Student teaching is a minimum of 60 days as far as I'm aware so that means if I start after winter break I would be done sometime around March.

If I apply now, I will be eligible to start on August 1st. However, I do not want to pay for 2 terms, so I was thinking of moving my start date to September or even October.

Am I being too ambitious? I have half a year of experience long-term subbing this past school year but I was told that this wouldn't count for student teaching which is understandable since I wasn't receiving mentorship from anyone.

edit: if anyone has experience student teaching in fairfax county please let me know what it was like!

Unrelated, but if anyone has tips for studying for the Praxis exams let me know! Looking for cheap/free resources.

D671- WGU

I'm feeling defeated. I took the OA for this course twice. On the first attempt, I scored competent in standards and resources in science as well as life science, but scored approaching competence in earth science and physical science. I did everything the course instructor told me to do to retake the exam and be successful. I completed the study plan (two quizzes, all modules) and even did the additional study quizzes—they weren't mandatory, but I did them anyway to get extra practice.

I retook the assessment and failed again. This time, I scored exemplary in standards and resources in science, unsatisfactory in earth science, and approaching competence in life science and physical science. I'm really confused because even the practice quizzes I received were nowhere near close to the actual exams I took in the first and second rounds.

Are there any tips? I've tried Quizlet, but it's just 200-plus terms, which is overwhelming. I also tried Studocu, but everything just seems all over the place. What can I do moving forward? Will my program mentor allow me to push this class back so I can focus on other classes and then come back to this one at a later date?
