My mortage may be 4k+ and my car may take $200 gas a month but I'll be damned if I pay more than a dollar for a can of anything. If you have a local Aldi and haven't visited it yet.... This is a sign from the universe that it's time to do it.
Got back from a trip and needed to grab some snacks and dinner bits. Already had lunch and breakfasts sorted with stuff in my cupboards at home. Going to cook sweet and sour tofu Chinese fake-away which I’m excited for!
Special mention to Gail’s whose £5 surprise bag from toogoodtogo was absolutely smashing. Only complaint with Ocado is they refrigerate everything and I would rather those lovely tomatoes didn’t get refrigerated!
Yes, I bought brown bananas on purpose. We live part time in HI and bananas here on the mainland make us sad. But I do still have a few recipes that call for them. These will become part of a buckwheat groats pancake recipe.
This grocery “haul” makes me sad…
How is little amount of groceries $80?! Walmart in North Carolina 😭
$112.30 (£82.99) in total, two hauls. Will feed three adults and a bird for at least 7 days, I'll push for 10. Many items pictured will last longer than 10 days.
*Disclaimer: it's hurricane season so I like to sporadically buy canned foods before things get crazy. Our worst months are ahead so I just like to prepare.*
The second image was: $92.25 (£68.17)
I went to the store on Saturday and got mostly everything I needed, until I realized I missed some things. The second picture is what I got on Saturday. The six pounds of beef for $8.75 was such a steal, I regret not getting another. The cheese, burger patties, sandwich bread, and the toilet paper will last several weeks. The canned foods will last months.
The first photo was $20.05 (£14.82)
I went in today for shredded cheese, grated Parmesan cheese, and hot dog buns. But, I have zero self control and always check out the clearance sections while I'm there, and I'm glad I did.
All of the meat will be frozen. Some apples, cheez its, and granola bars will go to the guys that pickup the trash. The remaining snacks and cheeses should last me and my husband several weeks.
We have plenty of food in the freezer, refrigerator, and pantry.
Big shop Monday! I do one of these a month and do 2-3 smaller Aldi/ Deliveroo 50 off Monday top ups. Amazon had given me 3x £20 off £70 shop codes (20MULTIMOR - not sure when this expires) so Morrisons have been supplying the big shops lately. Full price would have (obviously) been £76.53
To feed just my
total was £25
really not a lot for that price but it’s ok
f22 on a low income with no kids
the cat treats are for the hedgehogs
edit: not sure why this is so controversial, mind you it’s my money that i worked for and what i choose to spend it on is my business
mind you the houseplant food, the cat food and the mouthwash totalled up to £3.55
edit again: apparently i’m not gluten intolerant because i brought crisps
edit a third time: apparently im living like a millionaire
This will be three main dinners of
Sausage tray bake with red pebbers, beans and mashed potatoes
Roast chicken with Carrots and roast potatoes and a salad
Pork stir fry
There should be leftovers of the tray bake and the roast potatoes the latter of which I'll make into a chicken soup with the carcass.
I've also bought marscapone as I'm going to try and make homemade milk slices. The Soda water is for homemade mint lemonade which I'm making this week and I got the broken box of cokes for £2.50! Not pictured is a bag of cat sand.
I have cupboard staples like oils, Spices, flour, Suger etc.
Toddler has breakfast and lunch out three days a week and my husband doesn't eat breakfast or lunch and if he does he buys something. Once a week they also eat at my in laws. For lunches I'll have some toast with some jam I made last week or an egg. The days the toddler is at home I'll make him pancakes or toast and jam or cream cheese or eggs. We get milk delivered and weekend dinners are sorted on the days mostly.
Will probably need a top up shop this week for Nappies.
Saw an online advert for loads off certain fridge items from Coop if ordering via UE.
Milk 30p
Eggs 30p
Bread 19p
3 x quiches £7
This is a nice little top up shop for a two person household.
I can see various meal options for the week breakfast scrambled eggs and toast or just toast.
Quiche and salad ,
What do you think?
The tofu isn't on the receipt cause I got it in a different shop, costs 4,500 clp each block. It feels expensive here in general but we also eat quite a lot. We always bring olive oil, coffee, chocolate and cheese from the UK/Spain when we visit as they are waaaay cheaper in Europe. Still don't understand why its cheaper to buy Colombian coffee in Spain than in Chile. The extra virgin olive oil here is also literally three times the price (around 4€/litre vs €12/litre).
You can't see the fruit so well, but the pink things at the front are potatoes, in the bag are tomatoes, there's also 3 pears, 3 clementines, a big avocado, a lemon, a sweet potato, courgette and a fat cucumber. I miss British apples.
£67.44 - 2 adults 2 kids (age 7 and age 10 months.)
Mostly Uber Eats Fresh Monday - fruit and veg plus lots of top up items, store cupboard and stuff on sale. (plus bananas for scale already in the fruit bowl off camera)
I've found myself taking uber up on the various deals they have on at supermarkets. Did a waitrose one yesterday for loads of 40% off stuff. £46.80. Sorry no photo.
So this will see us through best part of 2 weeks I think now, maybe with the odd bits and bobs like fresh fruit etc.
So £114 for 4 of us for 2 weeks (ish).
*EDIT I also got £3.18 UberOne credit with this order. This is newly added by Uber. You used to only get credits in taxis now it's on everything I believe.
Only thing not included in the pictures is a pack of cornettos ( a guilty pleasure of mine lol)
Just will need a few more fresh things during
