Hey Reddit, I’m in town for the next couple days for a funeral. Haven’t been back here in probably fifteen years (for another funeral actually). I was far too young to do anything back then so this time I’d like to actually explore.
Just curious what things there are to do in town or a must to check out when visiting?

I admit, I’m an idea girl. I love ideas and playing with ideas. That’s what a sketchbook and a too long google doc folder are for! Though I’ve noticed some ideas and projects stick around more than others, and those are ones to cultivate ❤️
I had an AMAZING opportunity to have an art residency a couple years ago where I spent the month cultivating an idea. Since then I’ve enjoyed where the journey has taken me and I feel like I keep wanting to go to “the next steps” in some areas of it. It’s a more interactive animation project so part of me wants to get out of concept art phase and go to construction/production phase. Though the problem I keep coming to is I feel my skills aren’t to the level I want for the production. I’ve tried throwing some money at it here and there but my funds are so limited and that creative “itch” wants to create things myself too.
So I just feel a bit stuck. I don’t want to make a sub par project, but I also don’t want to squander this extra time I have where I could be working on it.
I technically have another smaller project I could work on and could jump into it right away but it’s working different skills. BUT I do have a better understanding of that project too.
Logically I have some direction, but the ROI and my energy and sense of “completion” feels at risk too?
Idk, I’m just curious if other creators have similar problems and how they deal with a stalled engine so to say 🤔

Okay, so, I decided the other day to go back and restart the series. (And go back and watch the movies and OVAs I skipped while binging it earlier this year)
I’ve seen the first couple seasons a few times now, but this time i thought to watch it Subbed vs dubbed this time around…. And I’m curious on what all of you think of the two in general.
My general thoughts are that as much as I really enjoyed the dub and the voices are to me what the characters sound like, in the sub, they actually sound like teenagers. Izuku and Katsuki both sound like they should be in high school and I feel like the mood suddenly changes the vibe. They’re not just heroes or protagonists, they are young and in school!
But with that shift, the oddest thing is that the show is feeling more like an anime? It’s really weird. I think it’s because MHA came out at a time where Marvel and DC had shows like Young Justice and The Amazing Spider-Man so it all felt along the same vein of inspiration.
Maybe that’s why a lot of us in the West had mixed feelings about the later seasons. We have been used to seeing some pretty good super hero shows at the time and so when MHA went more “anime” it fell a little flat for those who wanted cool superheroes?
Idk what do you all think?
I still personally believe that MHA should partner with Dark Horse Comics and create some spin offs of class 1A that feel more traditional “superhero”. Kind of like when they had a manga about Deadpool and Wolverine, let some creators reimagine something similar but with mha 😄 but that’s another idea for another time.
“So when are you going to give me grand children?”
Katsuki stared dumbfounded at his mother from across the kitchen island counter. He had a spoon full of an off-brand cereal he liked the taste of in one hand and his phone in the other. Both tumbled out of his grasp onto the counter barely missing the cereal bowl.
He was home to do laundry that weekend. That was it! And his mother was doing so well too. She didn’t bug him about coming in late last night after patrol, she didn’t turn his old room into a gym like she threatened every week (all her weird way of saying she wanted him to make an appearance at home) and she was asleep when he went for his morning jog. It was the perfect weekend at his parents house.
“Hah?!”
“Don’t give me that tone! I want grand kids!”
“Heck no! Why on Earth would I do that?!”
“Because you’re 25 and I’m not getting any younger. The Habiki’s daughter next door is already married and they are expecting child number two! TWO! In the time you’ve debuted and dropped in the rankings, she’s had two kids with a quirkless man! What? Do I need to set you up with someone? Is everything okay down there?”
“Mom?!!” His voice nearly cracked as his ears, face and neck were glowing red with pure embarrassment and rage.
“I let it go in school cuz you didn’t need that kind of distraction. I always thought you were a late bloomer in the whole romance realm anyway. But then college happened, and then work- when are you going to find a nice lady and give me grand kids?”
“Mom!”
“Or man, I don't judge.”
He aggressively pushed the bar stool away from the island and stormed out of the room.
Okay, so as an old X-men evolution fan girlie, part of me wants to explore if the characters of MHA lived in that time where quirks first started appearing. IE basically the X-men world 😆
I’m trying to think of some interesting ideas to pull some characters of class 1A dealing with the world, cuz technically they wouldn’t be held with high regard.
Only one plot tidbit in mind is that since mutant powers didn’t appear until puberty, I could see Katsuki being Izuku’s middle school bully, but his quirk appearing would instantly throw him into being the bullied one by friends and school mates. Plot wise though and Izuku’s character in general, he’d def be the biggest advocate for his friend. Perhaps the one who after school helps him understand this new power and/or help find a hidden U.A. - a private school that is said to have mutants à la X-men style.
Idk, I feel like that could be an interesting plot/starting point , though it could be interesting to explore other members of the og cast instead too. Kaminari is a favorite of mine, so it could be fun to use him in that main cast?

So I found BurnedStars777 on Ao3 and have been loving her writing style. I never really got into the kachaco ship before but I like fun ideas and good writing AND her stories are finished! It makes my completion heart happy to read some finished fanfiction novellas 😆
So, now I’m in a MHA romance novella kick. If you have any great suggestions, I’d love to hear them! Preferably finished stories, and I’m pretty open to most ships if the characters are adults. OCs as love interests to the cast is fine too. Just looking for some adorable and fun domestic situations 🥰
I received an email from a recruiter for IRIAM and it seems rather interesting, but after working in tech for so long I’m always a bit skeptical about everything.
Person seems real and the opportunity sounds interesting too - as an business artist who has some evenings free and could play live podcast DJ host, it could be a fun experience.
Just curious what others think? I normally stay away from stuff like this cuz of how many scams there are. 🤔 but I could always do something for a short term contract/project.
