Why are dash cam batteries so expensive?

£/$350 for a 7650mAh Capacity back up battery?

That’s only a little more than a high end smart phones battery. You can get a 10,000mAh power bank for £/$30.

I can guarantee they use the same 18650 cells, same as almost every device like this does. Same as my drill battery etc.

Yes they require some extra circuitry for the dash cam connection and power management. But I’ve bought laptops, which use the same cells, for less money which had more battery capacity. Yes this is a niche product, but still, how can they possibly justify these prices?

Seek ultra car mount/holder?

I have seen the ultra being shown in its holder attached to a vehicle dashboard. I would really like to do this, and hardwire the power in.

Anyone done this, or have any further information? Or are there any other options?

AiMesh - where is the list binded devices?

I have an AX88U, setup in AP with 3 nodes to create a mesh.

I have a device that always wanted to connect to a node too far away. So I binded it to the closest node. This has worked well in the past.

Now it won’t connect at all. I want to unbind it, but can’t see how to do this. As it’s not connected, it’s not in the connected client list. But surely there must be a section in the setting somewhere that shows what bindings there are. Can anyone help?

Automations vs Scripts - why have both?

I have a few scripts, that I run from some automations and buttons, to avoid duplication and make changing this quicker and easier, so I don’t have to reconfigure multiple automations.

What I don’t get is why we have this system of scripts in the first place. Given that they are basically just automations without triggers, why not just get rid of ‘scripts’ and have trigger-less automations that other automations can run?

Seems like it would be a good way to simplify Home Assistant and make it more logical for new users.

Or am I missing something?

iOS 26.5 - now supports custom notifications for third party smart watches (EU only for now). Will Casio update their watches to use this feature?

In the EU, iOS 26.5 (just released) finally supports custom notification settings for third party devices, like non-Apple smart watches.

Devices will often require an update to take advantage of this. This would be amazing for is Gshock H5600 series, if Casio decides to implement it, and will resolve one of my biggest complaints about my watch.

Does anyone know if Casio plan to update their watches for this?

Small battery powered eink display to show temperature from a sensor - any recommendations?

Looking for a small (grey scale is fine) eink display to show the temp from a sensor I have on a water tank in my attic. Needs to be battery powered and update maybe 1-2 minutes (unless there is no significant change to the temp). Any recommendations for something like this?

I’m using the Switchbot Bluetooth integration with my 3 blind tilts, roller blind and 4 bot. I have tried a couple of USB dongles that work, but sometimes by devices can take upwards of a minute to respond. Usually it’s when try and use more than one at once.

Would replacing with, or adding, ESP32’s are BT proxies help?
