Laundry Mat Pickups!

I’m kinda loving getting coins from the laundry mat right now, no rolls to unwrap and great finds! These were found in $400 picked up in $200 batches this week!

1868 Shield Nickel FS-904

Transitional year coins have to be one of my favorites so when I saw this I knew I needed to buy it! The mint switched dies for the 1868 shield nickel moving from the 1867 to 1868 back partway through the years mintage. The 1868 back in a very specific pattern creating identified varieties based on how many letters broke. I believe the seller thought this coin was “damaged” when in reality it was the die that was damaged. If you look close you can see the 4 distinct letter breaks( D in UNITED, S in STATES, and C and S in CENTS )

Cud on D vs Filled D bicentennial?

I’ve seen a lot of filled D bicentennial quarters but never one this extreme, is this now a cud??

Proof coin question

I recently was given a 1970-S proof nickel. After looking it over it seems to have some machine doubling with three shelfs on some of the letters. My understand is proof coins are struck more than once so Is this essentially machine doubling on top of machine doubling?

Epic collection dump!

Honestly guys I’ve got mixed feelings about this. On the one hands it’s cool for me but I know whoever exchanged this for face value lost out big time. Guess I’ve got some good karma to spread! Also, slipping in a pick of the D on a couple of the 64’s incase this isn’t machine doubling like I’m thinking it is!

1994-P quarter with multiple die cracks

I gotta imagine that this poor die was destined for a catastrophic failure! These are not the greatest photos but everything you see is raised even the one in between the AM on the back.

Thoughts about what’s going on?

Against my better judgement I posted this on r/coinerrors first and it got zero responses(lesson learned). I’m hoping someone here has thoughts. This is a 1982-P quarter I found yesterday. At first it looked like it was just worn but I found a nice die break on the back and began wondering if the “in god we trust” issues are due to something else like a grease filled error or severe die deterioration.

PMD, Grease filled error or die deterioration?

I found this 1982-P quarter CRH yesterday and at first I thought it was just a typical worn coin but after finding the die crack on the reverse I began wondering if the obverse issue may be more than PMD. Any insights would be appreciated.

Double Die Question (plus bonus 6 claw bear and die break for your viewing pleasure!)

If I can’t match what I think is a double die on variety vista I should just assume it’s machine doubling yes? The first pic is a 65 quarter that I can’t match with any known DDO’s and the second pic is a 1960 nickel that I think matches the DDO-12 on variety vista.

That’s a keeper!

This has got to be the cleanest buffalo nickel I’ve ever seen! I’m assuming someone dumped a collection!

Safe space coin error question!

I just can’t post another “nope not an error” on coin errors so I’d love everyone’s opinion, is this a DDO on a 1960 Nickel?

1927-S?

I picked this up today for melt and when I got home I took a closer look and noticed there was either damage or potentially a worn S where the mint mark should be. So what do you think damage or mint mark?

Crispy 62 nickel

Found this in one of my recent nickel boxes. Not quite full steps but it’s got to be the best struck 60’s nickel I’ve seen come out of a bank box!

1952-S DDR? DDO?

I was CRH and came across this 1952-S that appears to have true doubling with the lettering separated on both the obverse and reverse. Variety visita has a DDR listed for the year and mint but not a DDO. Is this actually machine doubling? Is something else going on? Any insights would be appreciated. I’m new to error hunting and I’ve read the suggested resources but I’d love a more experienced opinion! Thank you in advance for taking a look.

Mail Day!

The coins showed up early…. And they’re real as far as I can tell! The 1931-S weighs 3.09 grams and looks + feels totally legit. The 1914-D weighs 3.07 grams which is a bit light but it’s fairly worn. I think the D is in one of the correct mint mark locations and has the proper slant which typical fakes do not. I’ll have to take both in to a coin shop to truly confirm. I guess sometimes the gamble pays off!
