Shared charter rock away beach

Good morning! I’m going to be in rockaway beach, and was hoping to go out on a charter. When I say charter, I don’t mean a 250$ per person deal, more one of those party boats where it’s 40-50 people, have my own gear, including a 400 size bait caster and a 100 size van staal.

Where should I look? Any shore fishing tips? Thanks!

Coastal cuthroat

I have 4 kids and new to the oregon coast. We've enjoyed the jetty fishing and trying to get them all their first salmon this fall. I wanna target some coastal cutthroat on the central oregon coast. Im not looking for spots just curious on what people have found to be successful tactics for specifically cutthroat. I personally throw alot of twitching baits and spinners, not sure if I should switch it up.

Herring or mackerel for sturgeon in the Willamette

I've caught them before in herring but a guy at fisherman's said mackerel.

Which is the better bait?

My friends have never caught a sturgeon and I would like them to experience the fight

Sockeye Near Portland

I’ve been plunking sockeye this week with no luck so far. Is it worth trolling for sockeye? I’ve never done it before and I thought it might be fun to take my new motorized raft out.

Edit: this is on the Columbia. I’ve tried Who Song and Larry’s (way too many weeds) and Hamilton Island.

Oregon anglers: Public comments are open on Eagle Creek National Fish Hatchery's new DEQ discharge permit.

Many of you know Eagle Creek NFH plays an important role in supporting Columbia Basin salmon and steelhead fisheries.

The Oregon DEQ has released a draft discharge permit that includes new thermal load requirements for the hatchery. The concern is that Eagle Creek is a flow-through hatchery it simply diverts water from Eagle Creek, raises fish, and returns the water to the creek. It has no practical way to cool the water it receives, yet the proposed permit includes temperature-related requirements that many hatchery professionals believe are difficult or impossible for a facility like this to meet. The draft also adds new monitoring and reporting requirements.

Whether you support or oppose the proposed permit, this is your opportunity to have your voice heard.

Comments can be sent to:

Trinh Hansen
Water Quality Permit Coordinator
Oregon Department of Environmental Quality
📧 trinh.hansen@deq.oregon.gov

If you care about hatcheries, recreational fishing, conservation, or the future of salmon and steelhead in Oregon, I encourage you to read the draft permit and submit a respectful comment. Agencies genuinely consider substantive public comments when finalizing permits.

Best spot surf fishing near Pacific City, OR?

I’m going camping with my family for the 4th of July, staying at the Thousand Trails campground. Where’s the best spot in that area for surfcasting? I imagine I’d have luck catching surf perch anywhere casting from the shore, but are there spots where streams open out into the ocean where fish may congregate, or jetties where I might land cod or rockfish? If it’s all the same I’ll just drive to whatever beach is closest to the camp, but if there’s someplace worth driving to I’d be willing to make the extra effort.

Also—any good bait shops near there to buy tackle and live bait?

Any good launches for Inflatable boats around Portland?

This morning I had to abort my salmon fishing mission my launch point of choice, Fred's Marinia, had zero parking available within 100 feet of the ramp at 5 am.

Closest parking I could find was about 0.2 miles away on marina way.

I re-routed to cathedral park only to find a similar problem trailer-only parking was avaible close to the ramp, but I'm not pulling a trailer and the closest spot for my vehicle was about 0.1 miles to the ramp.

My boat is lightweight, relatively speaking. Geard out for trolling, it comes in between 85-95 lbs. It is too heavy to carry very far assembled.

I typically will make 2-3 trips and assemble near the launch. Until today, the places I have gone have been accommodating, but the water hasn't been close to the run and it's taken me 1.5 to 2 hours to then get to the fishing grounds. rowing with the trolling motor I can get close to 4-5 mph.

I don't physically have a problem hiking in my boat in 30-40 pound bundles but I have issues with other folks trying to use the ramp while I move the peices then assemble them, this is a process that takes about 30-45 min.

Having high-value gear sitting near a walkway or on a ramp invites theft and vandalism if it is unattended. I have had run-ins with lurkers while beached and being relatively close, so turning my back and hiking up to a quarter mile away from my gear seems like folly.

Are there are some metro area salmon anglers who can help me out with recommendations? Is the mouth of the Willamette just untouchable? Are there some good launches on the Columbia?

I'm tired of arrive to the fishing holes exausted, late and out-of-luck.

Just Another Reason AI is Utter Trash!

This is not true even though it credits its info from the ODFW page. It’s a simple question. A Google search used to actually mean something! Now, it could get someone in serious trouble if they’re not careful.

First time fishing

Hi everyone, I’m in the process of teaching myself to fish as an adult and have been having a helluva blast (and realizing this steep learning curve) . I’m gonna be down a bit south of Sunriver this week with some family and was wondering if y’all know any beginner friendly places around the area/ The Deschutes. I’ll have access to a canoe but if there’s any bank spots that would work I’d greatly appreciate it.

From a struggling newbie, thank you for all and any help.
