Converting 1/3, 4/3, 7/3, etc. to degrees, minutes & seconds / DMS does not convert the 60 seconds value into 1 minute, i.e. 1/3 converted to DMS should be 20 minutes, yet this clone displays it as 19 minutes & 60 seconds.
Strangely, 2/3, 5/3, 8/3, etc. displays the proper value, i.e. 40 minutes.
Can anyone replicate this bug on other clones or even the original EL-506P?
RIP screen...
At least it has a real solar panel, as well as a red LED acting as a voltage regulator.
"CASIC" - My dumbass had no idea this was a fake calculator, nor that CASIO existed. 😭
My first scientific calculator - bought over a decade ago or so as a gift when I was still in elementary school [grades 1 - 9, years 6 - 15, most likely bought when I was 13+ years old, can't recall].
Interestingly, this clone uses a different microcontroller / ASIC compared to the other 2 clones I have, giving a result of 8.999999998078897 instead of 9.000002051244 like the other 2 clones I posted about previously.
Would be interesting if someone could figure out what this calculator & the other 2 clones are related to - the 2 clones are related to some Radio Shack 65-115 calculator released in 2006, while this clone is related to some calculator sold at Walmart, the Durabrand 828.
I believe it takes 2 x LR44 button cells, my dumbass took it apart years ago using a knife, since I didn't have any screwdrivers at the time, ended up stripping the screws to oblivion...
Expression used: arcsin(arccos(arctan(tan(cos(sin(9))))))
The 9 is in degrees.
The box has DEFINITELY seen better days...
Why are there basically no scientific flip cover calculators from reputable brands like Casio, Sharp, TI, etc?
Casio has some basic calculators with flip covers, but basically all their scientific calculators use sliding covers instead. Same for the other manufacturers.
If you want a flip cover, you're basically left with scouring the trillions of no-name Chinesium calculators, which isn't necessarily a bad thing, since calculators are overpriced anyways.
Where I live [some armpit in Southeastern Europe], the 2nd calculator - a basic Casio WITHOUT a solar panel - costs about as much as the last calculator & the trillions of fx-82MS clones. Meanwhile, I bought the 2nd-to-last calculator for ⅕ the price of the Casio, with it being basically functionally identical & being solar-powered [verified by taking the calculator apart to change the battery - the solar panel was wired & it worked without the battery being inserted].
And people wonder why no one buys Casio calculators in Third World countries, assuming you can even find any to begin with...
Why did this blow up 4 months ago?
Optima SS-501 scientific calculator, AKA yet another Sharp EL-506P clone, bought for $7.
Has a flip cover & a battery door, which houses I believe a single LR54 button cell, as opposed to the Sharp EL-506P's larger 2 x LR44 button cells.
Meme stolen from u/dm319.
Pozdrav.
Hvala!

LMFAO, the dub is an abridged parody series, I swear to God. 😭
$1.5 cute little 4-banger with a flip case, battery & a real solar panel.
Crazy how these things cost nothing to make, can do square roots & consume 0.000002W of power, all while being integrated into a single blob the size of a fingernail.
This stuff would have been alien tech in the '70s, hell it still is, to me at least.
Autism... Technology...
"CALCUL ATOR" - Printing is too hard for the Chinese...
Would be longer than the universe.
At least this clone has a proper manual.
The way the song fades in into the opening *chef's kiss*.
Meanwhile, Nelvana reusing the same opening jingle for 4 seasons straight & not even bothering to change the ending visuals & song, which is just the instrumental version of the opening, until Mechtanium Surge, meaning you still had the Battle Brawlers guardian Bakugan all the way into Gundalian Invaders.
Not to mention the ending doesn't even sync up, since it was written with the Japanese ending song in mind...
Please, do yourselves a favor & watch the series in Japanese.
Nelvana really saw this emotional scene & were like:
"What if we did the EXACT opposite? Kids are too stupid to understand emotions! *smokes crack*"
There's an entire playlist on YouTube of Nelvana completely butchering the show.
The dub feels like an abridged parody series, I swear to God...
> Manages to manufacture a computer on a chip capable of doing trigonometry, logarithms, powers, roots, factorials... that uses 0.000002W of power & is the size of a fingernail.
> Can't be bothered to solder 2 wires...
The PCB also looks like it doesn't have any isolation for the batteries & solar panel to prevent the solar panel from charging the batteries, which are non-rechargeable primary alkaline coin batteries.
The finest Chinesium...
Have this unlabeled CASIO fx-991ES PLUS / fx-82MS thing with a REAL solar panel that some worker in China forgot to solder to the PCB / or it could be this thing uses a different PCB that doesn't take solar power.
Peak laziness...
Amazing...
