Continuing from my previous post, here's a great example of AMD being blamed for something that isn't an AMD driver issue.

The driver timeout popup is hurting your reputation AMD.

AMD, save what's left of your reputation. You need to disable the "Driver Timeout" popup in Adrenalin. A lot of people get random timeout errors caused by issues that have nothing to do with the AMD GPU or its drivers, yet the popup immediately makes users blame AMD. It is damaging your reputation even when the real culprit is unstable RAM, the CPU, Windows, or another system issue.

NVIDIA doesn't have a popup like this. If something goes wrong on an NVIDIA system, there's usually nothing immediately pointing users toward the GPU driver, so people are more likely to investigate the actual cause instead of instantly blaming the graphics driver.

Having VRAM Management Issues on CachyOS

Hello everyone,

I recently started using CachyOS with my RX 9060 XT 8GB to test the VRAM management feature, but unfortunately, it has not been going well.

The issue is that whenever a game starts going over 8GB of VRAM usage, my entire system begins stuttering heavily and eventually freezes completely. The only way to recover is by shutting down the PC using the PSU power switch, with the VRAM management off. This issue doesn't happen.

I monitored VRAM usage using amdgpu_top, and the freezes consistently happen once VRAM usage exceeds the 8GB limit.

I tested all Proton compatibility layers in Steam, but the issue persists across all of them.

Games tested so far:

  • Pragmata
  • Cronos: The New Dawn

Has anyone else experienced similar behavior on RDNA 4 cards, or is it just my system?
