Taking indie jazz submissions for (pirate) radio play

Hey all, started hosting a jazz show on Radio Free Memphis. I want to spotlight unsigned artists making original jazz. The episodes are played Wednesday mornings in Memphis right now and posted to bandcamp. Here's the first episode:

https://radiofreememphis.bandcamp.com/track/jazz-i-lay-dying-1

If you want your music on the show, send me a wav/flac file, bandcamp code, whatever as long as I can get a lossless file out of it at jazzilaydying@gmail.com

Small batch of music 2-3 (2-4 tracks) preferred.

Feel free to hit me up if you have questions!

LFAMTQ - Floppy Disk Split between Fusion and Post-Rock bands

Listen/here:

https://144mbmusic.bandcamp.com/album/lfamtq

LFAMTQ is a split record between two northeast US rock groups that draw on less common influences, pushing boundaries between fusion and rock as well as the conventions of those genres. Michael Talento Quartet (MTQ) releases fusion that has an alternative rock influence, while LFA releases post, math, and emo rock with a jazz influence.

In the artists' words:

>As soon as someone hears a saxophone, they tend to put the music in the jazz bucket, but I wanted the music to challenge that.

>The [LFA] tracks themselves were all written with the medium and it’s technical limitations in mind. Compositionally, it was an exercise in being concise... there’s many phrases that end a little earlier than you might expect, which makes a really distinct and unique feel and sound.

Noise album made from CB radio transmissions, release on floppy disk: 160m band - Local Net

Listen to Local Net: https://144mbmusic.bandcamp.com/album/local-net

"Listening to this felt like hearing a cursed episode of King of the Hill put in a blender and broadcast through a walkie-talkie... Good stuff, play it loud" - Andrew Wood

160m band's work plays with themes of the banality of everyday life, paganism, human connection and loneliness, using radio equipment picking up natural and man-made sounds found on radio waves. Works like Local Net explore these themes with noise walls, drones, and more using sounds collected by radio. Sometimes boring conversations between truckers, sometimes solar propagation.

This audio collection technique is an exercise in patience and connection to the world around us - once the equipment is tuned to certain frequencies, the artist has to wait for it. 160m band hopes to help listeners realize that these sounds are all around them, and illuminate them using specialized equipment and know-how.

For fans of noise, ambient, and musique concrete

Philadelphia-themed Musique Concrete album on Floppy Disk

Listen to the original and floppy versions on bandcamp

Broad & Erie is a continuation of the Lobster Opera Company’s work: another collection of earnest (but not serious) musique concrete shorts, this time centered around Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. While not meant to be a comprehensive Philadelphia experience, the piece celebrates quirks and idiosyncrasies emblematic of the region.

I was in charge of sample collection, so I can't speak to process, but I sought out samples that I found were both emblematic of the region while also not taking itself too seriously. I wanted to thread the line between love and appreciation for a region and its people without being closed off to others.

We chose to put out the album on floppy disk because we like the self-imposed space limit, and because our main sampling subject is the human voice and we like what a lower sample rate does to the sounds (like as seen with "Bricks of Lavender," a track that only uses one sample of a person talking).

Beckton Alps2 - Fuck Vol. 2

Listen on our Bandcamp

Fuck Vol. 2 is an exercise in aggression, distortion, comedy, and negative space. Everything about it, from the music to the album art, the track listing to the medium of floppy disk, is designed to be combative toward the listener.
(this was a lot of fun to be a part of)

Fuck Vol. 2 is a free download, and, per the artist's wishes, sold on floppy at cost.

Andrew Wood - RadgePacketRemorse

Listen to RadgePacketRemorse on Bandcamp: https://144mbmusic.bandcamp.com/album/radgepacketremorse

Multimedia artist Andrew Wood's RadgePacketRemorse digs deeper into his sonic de/re-constructions of place and memory with field recordings, electronic samples, and more. Some of its nine tracks are tied to very specific places, some of these were recorded in-situ, while others are more psychogeographic and drifting.

Wood chose the floppy disk for a physical release because, in his words, of its "blunt rejection of the 'now,'" and "the obvious impracticalities and fidelity issues become a creative challenge, something to engage with rather than fight, through compression new textures emerge."

He also uses a 24”x18” print of a woodblock in lieu of traditional album art, with each floppy disk and the Bandcamp art containing pieces of the original image.
