Toyota RAV4 2019 Hybrid Lounge Edition - 138,000km - 20,000 EUR - Good Deal?

Hi all,

Looking at this RAV4 Hybrid in southern Europe - good deal?

Saw the car, test drove it for a bout 20 minutes. No red flags in the condition of the car. Full service record provided by Toyota.

One owner, it was previously in Italy and he brought it back home to my country last year.

Is this a good deal?

Options included:

Leather seats, JBL speakers, 360 camera, electric powered driver seat, electric car boot door, reverse parking camera, etc.

Basically full options except for sun roof.

Realistic cost of replacing the cable outside of warranty?

Hi all,

I am looking at a used 2019 RAV 4 hybrid. I wanted to get an indication what a realistic outside warranty cost would be to replace the cable if in a few years it corrodes and fails? I have only seen a number occasionally referencing in Canada, costing up to 6000 CAD.

Is it possible to order the part yourself and bring it to an independent mechanic to install?

Would this be the correct part? https://www.japotoparts.com/en/part/toyota/rav-4/cable+high-voltage/23068966

Thank you!

Buying - RAV4 Hybrid - 2019 - 138,00km - Japan Built

Hi all!

I test drove a 2019 RAV4 Hybrid and loved it. It's in excellent condition, but after the test drive I read about the Cablegate issue, so I'm still undecided about buying it.

Toyota checked the VIN and confirmed:

  • The Cablegate recall/service campaign is still outstanding. (free of charge)
  • No other recalls are due.
  • The car has been serviced by Toyota every year.

We don't salt the roads where I live (around 320 days of sunshine each year), but I'm still concerned that corrosion could return after the repair, especially once the warranty ends. I was looking at this car for the reliability and a lifespan over 250,000 km (with maintenance).

I'll also have the car inspected by a mechanic. If the high-voltage cable already shows signs of corrosion, would you walk away from the deal?

Thanks for your advice!

Advice: Used RAV 4 Hybrid 2019 - 138,000km - 20,000 EUR

Hi everyone!

This will be my first car and my first used car, so I'd really appreciate your advice. I am not a car guy, but I have made a lot of research regarding this car.

The car is a 2019 RAV4 Hybrid - Lounge currently in the Balkans. It was originally purchased in Italy and has one owner. Asking is 20,000 euro, but I hope to negotiate it down to 18 or 17,000.

The model trim is a bit unclear I did my research online, it seems its a Lounge version. The model code comes up as "G". Leather seats, JBL speakers, electric powered driver seat.

So far I have:

  • Taken it for a test drive.
  • Completed a visual inspection inside and out.
  • Found it to be in very good condition, apart from a few minor scratches.

I was referred to the seller (one of their bigger customers) by the local Toyota Centre (we only have one in my country). So this is not a direct Toyota authorised used sale and is a private sale.

I also asked the Toyota Centre to check the VIN. They provided me with:

  • The complete service history (all done in Toyota centre)
  • The Hybrid Health Check records. (Latest passed no issues)
  • The vehicle data card.

Everything looks good. All services were completed on time, and the car is covered by the Toyota Relax Warranty (up to 10 years) and the 15-year Hybrid Battery Warranty.

I specifically asked Toyota to check whether this VIN had any known issues or outstanding campaigns relating to:

  • Cablegate (high-voltage cable corrosion)
  • Roof rail water leaks
  • Fuel tank filling issue (premature "Full" indication)

They told me that the only outstanding item is the high-voltage hybrid cable, which is covered under a Toyota recall/service campaign, so it will be repaired free of charge. I'm not sure why the previous owner never had this work carried out.

Would you:

  1. Proceed with the purchase and take the car to Toyota yourself after buying it?
  2. Ask the seller to have the recall completed before finalising the sale?

My next step is to have an independent mechanic perform a pre-purchase inspection.

Many thanks for any advice!
