In this mesh I cut holes using a boolean modifier, which naturally added geometry, but after I apply a Solidify modifier it's really exaggerating the geometry. What is safe to do to correct the sharp triangulated pinching?

My first doughnut

I've been using Blender for a few months now and finally decided to do an actual tutorial. I'd love any feedback I can get.

Anyone remember playing TD on SC?

Update: The reception has been very positive, thank you. If you and your friend(s) are interested in trying the multiplayer functionality, please reach out to me. I have a few full game keys to give you for some feedback on the multiplayer experience!

I remember playing (and still do!) several amazing Tower Defense games built in StarCraft and SC2, and I’ve always wanted a standalone game built around that exact experience.

As a solo developer, I've been working on PositionalTD, and it's finally at a level where I feel comfortable sharing it. To get that authentic RTS feel, I actually created a fully custom engine under the hood.

The game is currently in Early Access. The core loop is fully playable, but it still has a way to go before version 1.0. My roadmap right now is focused on balancing and refinement, rolling out the map editor, upgrading the sprites, and replacing the placeholder AI background music (audio is not my strongest skill!).

Here is what you can play right now:

  • Single Player: Completely free to play on Itch.io!
  • Robust Multiplayer: Supports up to 8 players via an ad-hoc server system. If the host disconnects, the game continues and the host can seamlessly rejoin.
  • Co-op & VS Modes: Co-op features both joint and siloed modes, so you can choose to share a single map or manage your own dedicated zones.

How to support the project:

If you want to help me realize my full vision, you can grab the Multiplayer version or the Backers Pack. The Backers Pack currently includes access to the dedicated server with ladders/seasons (UI is still a work in progress). In a month or two, the Backers Pack will also include the Map Editor, featuring full scripting support (Visual and Lua) so you can create your own game modes!

I hope you'll take the time to try it out. Let’s relive the early days of tower defense together!

Lost Techniques - Low Res Tank Thread Using Shaders - Blender 5 2

Just a short clips of a very easy way to fake animated tank treads using shaders for low-res video game sprites.

I vaguely recall doing something like this over 20 years ago, but I haven't done any 3d animation modeling in also over 20 years (excluding cad). i stumbled on this solution in blender out of the need for a simply solution for a sprite that's only 128x128px. Every solution I found online was overkill for my needs.

Change the math and settings of the wave to your use-case, and you can make the #driver more complex or animate using keyframes for turning animations and to adjust for sliding.

It may not be perfect, but I hope someone finds this helpful!

What do you think of the building animations?

Finally "finished" designing and rendering the building sprites. They are still very low detail, but I'm really glad to have actual building in the game! Working in a 120x120px resolution is a unique challenge, but I want to get everything in and then once I know it's stable (FPS) I can ratchet up the resolution and details!
