UTR connection drops

I'm a kinda heavy UTR user; UTR often stays plugged for several days in a row.

I've noticed, approximately 2-3x a day, the connection will drop for about a minute and then come back. This is the same if I have VPN enabled or not.

I can't point the reason for it and it feels very annoying when connection drops during the meetings. When it happens, the typically green lines on display become empty and text is orange, indicating an issue.

Do you see the same? Is it something we have to live with, or did you find a solution?

Linux for offline VeraCrypt management

I'm a win/mac user, but now would like to install Linux on one of my 6y old laptops (i5 CPU, 8G RAM, Simple Asus), with aim to have it fully offline, and to open/close veracrypt disk images to store my ledger wallet private keys. These encrypted files are then stored in various locations, including cloud.

Would you recommend XFCE, Debian, Ubuntu, or any other for this specific task? I don't believe such PC will turn on more than once annually.

Thank you.

Pogovorna imena izdelkov po imenu proizvajalca

Nekatere stvari so tako popularne, da se za njih uporablja kar ime podjetja.

Recimo:

Hiltica - udarno kladivo podjetja Hilti

Hijab - dvigalo podjetja Hiab

Boš pumpa - avtomobilska pumpa podjetja Bosch.

Kaj še?

Labela, vazelin

ANA181 and ANA183 - same aircraft type, same origin & destination, almost same time

Boring on a plane right now, started to scan FR24 for quad-engine planes and found these 2.

It looks to be busy route to schedule 2x A380 practically in parallel, with 1h10min scheduled time gap.

Infantino reakcija ob golu Španije

Bi si upal trditi, da nekaj je na temu, ko govorijo, da je FIFA koruptivna v prid Argentincev.

Device connected to the wrong network on a wifi (??)

I have the home network set with 3 VLANs and I have each vlan assigned to each access point. The network topology is UDR7 + UX7 (acting as access point).

I have had recently some problems with remote access from home assistant to one of the aircons and I realized today that one aircon has an IP that does not belong to the network and I can't figure it why.

Networks and wifi setup

This is my devices list when inspected. One is connected to UDR, another to UX. They are connected to the same wifi network (-IoT ending) however if you look closely, one of them is on the correct IP subnet, another is on the default subnet that does not below to any wifi network.

My computer is on home network and I verified the ping. I can ping the 192.168.20.25 but I can't ping the 192.168.1.80 (sure because the VLAN interconnect is set this way).

Wifi devices

My network app is 10.4.57 if that has any meaning.

Resetting UX7 helped to reconnect the device, and now it is OK, but how can it be possible that such IP is being used? For reference, no fixed IPs are being used on the devices.

My first MBP

I've had this MBP now for a month. My first ever MB. I feel I'm never going back to Win again. I own other Apple devices, so not sure why it took me 15 years to make the switch.

MBP M5 P 18/20, 64G, 1T, with nanotexture configuration.

MBP M5 Pro, 1TB/64GB, nanotexture

It is really just to post the appreciation how great PC this is, especially after I moved from full-time windows to MBP. Got sick of Windows slowliness, and I decided to purchase MBP 14" with M5 Pro (18/20), 1TB ssd, 64GB RAM and nanotexture display. There is no equivalent Windows PC whose perfomance and battery lifetime can match MBP.

What I know is that I never go back to Windows and I never plan to go away from nanotexture display, if the configuration allows me to take it. It is just next level.

Well done Apple!

I am now waiting new Macbook Air for business reasons, to kick out Windows there too.

My view on MBP M6 vs M5

Normally random redditor views are irrelevant and one shall build many of them, but I would like to share my view on few lessons I learnt with technology and "let's be first" type of approach.

I was a big Thinkpad user (their keyboard is superior compared to anyone, even Apple) starting with X1 Carbon Gen 3 and then few generations further. I remember I took the touch screen option, because it was only available with high resolution screen. I also took the WWAN option because I though I will need it. For context, I use laptop around the world, so I thought it may help

  • Touch screen: I used it at most 10 times since 2015 till today. Sometimes I used it to zoom some Adobe Reader stuff, but never ever for any other reason.
    • I am an iPad PRO user with the Magic Keyboard, and I only ever use touch on ipad if I can't do something with keyboard/touchpad, for example to close the video on a youtube app, it is faster with touch. I simply cannot imagine that macbook software would be so shitty that one would extensively need touch over touchpad/mouse/keyboard
    • Eventually I use the touch when I remove the ipad from the keyboard. But this is not something we'll be able to do with the macbook, so I think this part is irrelevant.
  • Connectivity with WAN: Never never ever used, didn't even try it. The stories of "let's not use public wifi or phone access point" were never an issue for me. With Apple OS, when one has phone close to PC, it will automatically offer to connect, so no point to pay additional money to have second sim card installed.
  • New design: Being first trial rabbit means a risk. The rumor says MBP M6 will have a thinner design. This risks thermal issues, quality problems that are potentially not yet known. I prefer not to risk it for example.
    • I was the one to take the first X1 Extreme PC and I learnt the lesson. The PC has a constant throttling because of heating problems. Acknowledged by Lenovo. What can we do? Nothing :)
    • Here MBP M5 has clear advantage, it is 5y long design, Apple has proven the structure and did internal modifications down the 5y period, to ensure correct thermal and structural setup.
  • New LCD: Here I am not worried so much, even if Samsung is yet to prove the quality of the displays. They are still running the reliability. The Macbook retina displays are proven to work very well
    • This could be a good reason to try with M6, the first good reason so far.
  • Dynamic Island: Here I am not worried so much because Apple has them in phones already. How it is lined with new LCD, it is different story.
  • Innovation overall: I still remember the touchpad area for Fx buttons, which were an absolute crap of a feature. I wouldn't like to be the person to try such new features again.

To be clear, I made a move to MBP, I'm no longer Windows user. The computers are 5 years ahead of the competition.

In my view, if the dilema is do I wait for M6 or I take today M5, I think with M5 one is in a much better position when it comes to the product reliability compared to the M6 redesign. Personally I will wait around M8ish before I will consider to purchase new one.
