Local Asshole's Letter to the Editor
A Dubuque Branch Trumpvidian Herald had a letter to the editor this morning from some moron about how he was all worried about socialism. And he brought up Amana as a reason why we should put up with fuck stick capitalism. Of course this fucking idiot wants to ignore how Amana was bought out by larger corporations like Whirlpool and a lot of people got laid off as recently as this year. Of course the dumb fuckstick has a I got mine so fuck you attitude.
How would other COs have reacted to M5's recommendations?
I'm re-watching the TOS episode The Ultimate Computer right now and something just occurred to me after the scene where M5 makes recommendations about a landing party. I got to wondering how the other COs in the various Trek series would've reacted to being told they were non essential personnel? Especially Janeway? I remember in Q2 the death glare Janeway gave the replicator when it told her to make coffee herself.
Eucharistic Prayer Question - Length
This morning the parish I go to used the Eucharistic Prayer from Enriching Our Worship 3. Something that started buzzing around the organic computer during services today was what would the absolute minimum be required for the consecration and the prayer to be valid. Would it just need to be the parts where Jesus spoke of the bread and wine. Or would more be required.
Keep in mind that it's not something I would want but I was just curious what would be required. Just a religious itch that needs scratching for me.
Data Centers
More sketchy data center activity going on around here.

I don't know how much of a voice, if any, I'll have when it comes to consider the disposition of my dad and uncle's farm. But I hope every government official from Iowa's governor on down to local goddamn dog catcher checks the temperature in hell if they think we'll give it to these vulture data center companies.
There. I fucking said it. It's either that or have a goddamn stroke keeping that bottled up.
So when did Dukat become the Bajoran anti-Christ?
I'm curious as to exactly when Dukat became the Bajoran anti-Christ? Was it prior to Tears of the Prophets, or was it some time between then and Covenant? After re-watching Tears of the Prohpets it seems to me that he wasn't the anti-Christ quite yet, but was someone who saw the Pah-Wraiths as a useful ally against the Federation and Captain Sisko. In Covenant he was the true believer and Jim Jones type.
Question on Star Trek: Enterprise
I pretty much skipped the third season of Enterprise altogether because I didn't feel like watching a whole season where we all pretty much knew that Earth would ultimately survive. The only episode I liked from that season was North Star.
I really liked the fourth season, however as the show was starting on a birth of the Federation series of mini-arcs. Such as moving to turn Vulcans into ones more like Spock, or explaining why the Klingons were different in TOS, or how the Romulans were a threat. Even the human anti-alien extremist episodes were good and showed humanity had a way to go before reaching the ideals of later series.
My question is if they had skipped the Xindi arc altogether or shortened it up a lot and moved at least some of the birth of the Federation into the 3rd season could that have been enough to have kept the series from getting cancelled early? And prevented that abomination called "These are the Voyages" from ever progressing beyond brainstorming?
Going no contact with siblings
I'm at the point where I think I'm just going to go low or no contact with my sister and her husband. Next week when they come up to visit I'm thinking of just being out of town then so I don't have to be around them anymore. Not that they'd notice anyways. I'm just done with my entire family. If I had the financial ability and a good paying job I'd move from Iowa to someplace out east. Maybe out to Rhode Island or upstate New York. (I would have said Connecticut too but I've already said I was looking for jobs out there to them and I think I wouldn't want to make it easy for them to find me). And not tell my family my new address or anything else.
DS9 School
Between the 3rd and 7th seasons it looks like more families returned to the stations with their children. So my question is if the school was ever reopened? Either by Keiko or someone else ?
Nice job Edolf Muskler
Nice job screwing everything up Edolf Muskler.
>U.S. Department of Agriculture staffing cuts in 2025 have left county-level service offices understaffed, according to an analysis of federal data from the National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition.
>The report found that Iowa lost nearly 19% of its Natural Resources Conservation Service, or NRCS, staff and 8% of its Farm Service Agency staff between January 2025 and January 2026. Both agencies staff local USDA offices and help farmers with federal programs and loans.
>Coalition staff and a co-author at Prospect Partners, LLC, used data from the U.S. Office of Personnel Management website and a Freedom of Information Act request of FSA county staff changes for the analysis.
>Nationally, USDA had a 23% decline of NRCS staff and 8% of FSA employees in 2025. The report said these agencies were among those “hardest hit” by the Department of Government Efficiency led cuts.
Screw you Edolf and Pedolf.
Federal Judges Not Happy With IA Prosecutors and ICE
A couple Iowa Federal judges are none too happy now with some prosecutors and ICE.
>Two federal judges in Iowa have sharply criticized government officials for repeatedly violating the law in immigration cases, with one Iowa ICE enforcement officer held in contempt for “astonishing conduct” and willfully violating a court order.
>The two cases, each handled by a different federal judge, involve Immigration and Customs Enforcement officials who have moved detainees out of Iowa jails and the court’s jurisdiction while the individuals have pending immigration cases before the court.
>The judge in one of the two cases took aim at the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of Iowa, saying “the court expects better” of assistant U.S. attorneys who, she said, should be working in the interests of justice. The judge also criticized ICE and the U.S. Department of Homeland Security for what she called their “unprecedented disregard for court orders and continued failure to follow the law.”
>In the second case, the chief judge of the Southern District of Iowa referenced ICE’s “record of defying court orders,” and warned the federal government that “noncitizens are not bargaining chips to be shifted from district to district as litigation strategy.”
Heat Wave
Looks like we're in for a heat wave this week. I know some communities like Dubuque are opening cooling centers to help deal with the extreme heat.
I remember we had a similar heat wave about 20 years ago. My job was in computer operations at the time so I would often wear clothes more appropriate to fall or winter when I had to work. For good reason too as the computer rooms were kept really cool. As in the mid 60s. I remember one time I wore a long sleeved flannel shirt when it was in the mid 90s because of my work and getting some funny looks by others.
Iowa blocked from restricting sugary foods and drinks under SNAP
Iowa has been blocked from restricting foods and sugary drinks in SNAP.
>A federal judge said Iowa cannot block SNAP recipients from buying sugary foods and drinks with their benefits.
>Iowa wanted to use SNAP rules to push people toward healthier choices. But the judge said the state and the USDA went too far.
>The program restricted all foods with sales tax exemptions from being purchased using SNAP benefits. That included items such as soda and candy, as well as some foods families rely on, including certain granola bars, fruit strips and prepackaged salads.
>Kathy Underhill, CEO of the Des Moines Area Religious Council, said the state had the right idea but did not consult local food advocates.
Good. I hope it holds up.
People want Iowa to be more civil.
>As the 2026 general election nears, Iowa’s airwaves have been consumed by political attack advertisements, while concerns of physical attacks have come up in campaigns and the Iowa Statehouse.
>A bipartisan group of former and current officeholders is encouraging civility in order to change the mood of politics statewide, advocating for civic participation and civil interactions with people who think differently.
>Scott Raecker, executive director of the Robert D. and Billy Ray Center at Drake University, said the rise of social media has led to incivility in everyday life, especially in political conversations.
Given how much of a fit Bashir threw when he turned 30...
How do you all think he would've handled turning 60? Since he was born in 2341, he would've had hit the big six-zero during the final season of Picard. Did he get as bent out of shape about that milestone or turning 40 or 50?
Clinton City Council Considering Pausing Data Centers
Clinton wants to freeze data center construction for a while.
>The Clinton City Council is meeting Tuesday to consider a temporary freeze on AI data centers. This pause would give city leaders time to write safety and zoning rules for the project.
>In late May, City Council members met with representatives from QTS Data Centers, the company interested in building one in Clinton.
>With the news of a data center potentially coming to town, it sparked many reactions of concern from Clinton residents who said they don’t want to join a growing list of communities nationwide that are raising questions about the environmental and quality of life impacts from the growing facilities.
>The proposal has sparked concern among many Clinton residents. They worry about how the massive facility could affect the local environment and their quality of life. However, some groups support the project, including the local development group Grow Clinton.
Despite what Mardolf Zuckler, Edolf Muskler, Pichai Sundararajan, groups like Grow Clinton, and all the tech bros say I think the current construction of data centers is unsustainable. I'm not completely opposed to data centers but they need to be placed in locations where the environmental impact is minimized. In Dubuque I think there are areas where data centers could be placed where one is not ripping up farm fields to satisfy Mardolf or Edolf.
Iowa Moving State Data to the Cloud
>Iowa is moving its executive branch data from outdated physical servers to a cloud system with Amazon Web Services, a shift projected to save more than $525 million over 10 years.
>Gov. Kim Reynolds announced the partnership with Amazon Web Services and Cognizant Government Solutions, which will manage the state's day-to-day IT operations. The move follows a comprehensive review of state government that began in 2022 and led to the consolidation of IT resources across state agencies.
<sarcasm> Yeah, I'm sure that'll work just great. </sarcasm>
Fewer Babies Being Born in Iowa
Saw this about how the number of babies being born in Iowa is going down.
>Iowa’s birth rate has declined more than 13% in the past decade, part of a nationwide trend that experts said will affect schools, the workforce and the economy.
>Before the pandemic, 75% of Iowa’s population growth came from new births. Six years later, that figure has dropped to 26%.
>While the pandemic made things worse, the decline in motherhood started beforehand. More women are focusing on college and careers before starting a family.
>“For a young couple, unless you’re making a lot of money and the labor market isn’t great right now for professional jobs, it doesn’t pencil out,” Peters said.
Gee, I wonder why? Maybe if Iowa wasn't such a Branch Trumpvidian hell hole maybe people would actually want to have children.
Question About Solok
Given what a huge back end of a horse Solok from Take Me Out to the Holosuite is, something just occurred to me? It seemed that Solok was behaving more like a Romulan than a Vulcan so I've been wondering over the past couple days if he was another Romulan deep cover agent? Sort of like Selok, who was a spy who pretended to be a Vulcan ambassador?
