Qnetic: The Future of Energy Storage. Do the physics work on this?

This is a Kinetic energy storage (KESS), also called Flywheel (FESS)

The idea is very old, variations already in use today.

The question is this design is uses a carbon fiber cylinder about 3~4 ft (~1m) in diameter, yet states they can provide 1000 kWh of energy storage, magnitudes more than others. THAT is what I am suspicious about.

Comparisons:

  • Beacon Gen4. 25 kWh. 15 minutes of discharge
  • Amber Kinetics M32. 32 kWh. 4 hours of discharge
  • QNETIC: Q1. 1,000 kWh. 4 to 12 hours of discharge, design target

Massively more energy storage, using a less dense mass. The density of carbon varies depending on its form, but typically ranges from 1.5 to 2.1 g/cm³, while iron has a density of about 7.87 g/cm³.

Is this too fantastic, or possible to get close?

Bug with Ar 234 B-2 (WB 151) — the rear view periscope.

At a glance:

  • Dual 20 mm gunpod!
  • Decent speed and maneuverability
  • Up to 1,500 kg bomb load
  • Poor rear view from cockpit
  • Poor rear view from cockpit

*Poor rear view from cockpit

Everyone see that thing sticking up from the cockpit? That is a rear view periscope. Yes, you have the ability to look behind you, except the "Look Back" key only shows the back of the cockpit.

This is an ancient bug on both Arado 234's

The periscope can also look forward, to aim the guns, but that is also not implemented.

BTW, the missing gun pod was known for years, and now it is added, for $50

*sigh*

Need replacement Lead-Acid battery for 2020 Ionic BEV (no number)

Short story: 2020 Ionic EV (predates the 5 and 6) bought from auction site cheap, but they probably did not keep keep it on charger so the Lead-Acid died.

Discovered it is very hard to find exact replacement.

Hyundai part #

00275-26000

40L CCA 354 RC55 Flooded.

Hyundai OEM lists: Interstate Battery CMF40L - Hyundai (00275-26000), hard to find one in stock.

What is a comparable replacement to put in?

I understand that all produce 12V (11~13.5V range) but need sufficient Amp to engage the relays.

ADDITION!

I suspect it may have an ICCU LDC (DC - DC) converter failure, because the 12V may not be getting charged from main battery.

Leasing land to a large solar company for ground mount array, solar farm.

I have a long time friend who has a farm, is looking at doing an array. He also knows another farmer that did an array, but thinks the land lease rates are not good.

Now someone asked me a question about leasing as well and that got me thinking more about the economics of large land leases, something I have never seen discussed here.

This is the poster said is:
I have been approached by a company, GreenGoEnergy, LLC, to lease my farm land for a solar field. (+25-year lease.) They offer $91,000 per year for 85 acres, once operational. The woman said our solar field would be a subset of 10-14 other solar fields in the neighborhood. Are there other companies offering these annual leases? What are their rates?

Some of my thoughts on this is:

  • How much $$ would the 85 acres produce if it was growing crops?
  • Ask for increase to rate over the 25 years?
  • Will the landowner enjoy free electricity?
  • Will "agro-voltaics" acceptable to company? That is ability to farm the land and "harvest" electricity. (it is a real thing, and proving to be incredibly successful with certain crops).
  • What kind of land access is needed? Road and utility improvements?
  • Will landowner need to pay for security?
  • Battery on premise?
  • Of course what is cancellation policy and transfer of land ownership issues.

I hope someone who actually leased land will see and post!

All thoughts, even wild ideas, welcome.

Should America's Solar 30% tax incentive return? Or any incentive for individuals?

The success of solar today was the 20% to 30% tax reduction incentives introduced in the early 2010's till ended at end of 2025.
Should this or some incentive return?

One popular argument against it is that this is tax money going to individuals, which is a fallacy. There are at least a dozen ways any American can reduce their taxable income, the one of the most common is investing in an IRA.

Another argument I hear is solar installers jack up their price by 30% (or some %), however I did months of shopping and getting at least 15 offers (most via EnergySage) and could not find any. The big installers tended to charge a lot more, but found several smaller ones for much less. The one I chose was market value.

Some have said incentive is a gift to wealthy, but the incentive did have a pretty low income cap. Was it about $300k?

Another big question is, is the solar industry able to stand on its own, or does it still need support, like subsidies for the oil industry does?

EDIT:
Reading some replies about how companies jack up prices due to incentives. A REAL LIFE example of how big company (not just solar) scam customers.

A couple of years ago I was asking a big name HVAC company for a new AC unit, they wanted $25000 for a new AC install, and that is not the most expensive quote I have heard people get!

My neighbor chose a no-name, word of mouth, Asian run company and they installed a new American Standard unit for $6700, a third the cost.

As I said, I could not find industry collusion to jack up prices 30% from all my looking around.

Regulation on Solar industry needed?

We have all heard and know people who have been taken advantage of in small and big ways.

  • Lease agreements that are nearly impossible or very expensive to get out
  • Loan payments that have huge hidden fees.
  • Or simply bad designs and/or bad construction and not come back to repair.
  • Even as simple as not telling the owner they need to cut trees.

End result is a strong and lasting image of Solar as the biggest scam of all time.

QUESTION:

Should there be a regulation that requires a third party review, or online education program for buyer, or something to minimize the abuse or even simple misunderstandings? A review that is easy and quick, if that is even possible.

Does anyone believe Texas Republicans will stop AI and Bitcoin data centers?

US Data Center Power Demand Projected to Double by 2027, Texas by far the most

2/3 of the way down there is a map of US showing which states will have the most growth, and Texas is far ahead with 2904 MW of "Goldman Sachs Research forecasts annual additions to data center capacity across US states in 2026 (MW)"

That is hundreds of billions of $$$, not including all the energy infrastructure needed to support this.

It could potentially bring more than half a Trillion to the state over the next 10 years (if the bubble does not pop)

(I did not put link properly)

Texas can easily become a blue state

Rural Texas is suffering. Drive though many rural towns one will see emptiness.

Abandoned houses, empty stores, shuttered businesses.

Farming, ranching, and even some regional oil jobs have declined over the decades, compounded by increased mobility where people prefer to live closer to big cities, rather have long commutes and/or work remotely than living in a crumbling community.

Tax revenue for those remote towns is dwindling... was dwindling.

Wind and Solar is a rapidly increasing tax revenue stream for those improvised communities, allowing them to update services, improve schools, even save communities from becoming ghost towns. It is not hard to find news articles and data on how one dying towns have new life.

Texas is now #1 in Wind and Solar generation beating out California (FYI: Florida is #3).
While the official Republican party line is renewables are a "scam", the "red" rural areas are seeing the reality that wind and solar is a gold mine for them. They also see local Republicans boost renewables while state and national leadership is doing everything it can to kill the projects.

The locals know they truth, and they know they could loose everything if they support Republicans dismantling the new money maker.
What is more everyone knows the massive power demand for AI and Bitcoin is rapidly increasing demand for electricity, far more than oil (even with Iran war demand). Need for more electricity (not oil!) is an almost daily headline news, and people are seeing electricity prices go up, that is what everyone is focused on.

I estimate about 25% of Texas counties could vote Blue in 2026 from seeing first hand the income they bring to the local economy; IF the Democrats campaign simply on Jobs and Revenue messaging that wind and solar is bringing and Republicans want to take away.

Here are a few resources to look at.

https://yaleclimateconnections.org/2025/03/clean-energy-is-powering-local-economies-in-texas/
...over the lifetime of those projects, they will pay more than $12 billion in taxes to the communities where they’re located – some of which do not get much revenue from other industries, like oil and gas or manufacturing.

https://www.climatecosmos.com/sustainability/renewable-boomtowns-surprising-places-thriving-on-green-energy
Local ranchers now lease land for turbines, earning steady incomes that help keep family farms afloat even during tough times. The wind industry has created hundreds of jobs, from maintenance technicians to logistics drivers, and brought new schools and infrastructure projects to town. The city’s housing market is booming, with new developments popping up to accommodate workers and their families.

https://www.cleanview.co/power-projects/operating/wind-farms/texas
As of August 2026, there are 230 utility-scale wind farms in Texas, according to Cleanview's project tracker.

https://comptroller.texas.gov/economy/economic-data/energy/2023/wind.php
^^^ Official State of Texas website and data ^^^
According to Chmura, a labor and economic market research consulting and software firm, wind electric power generation jobs contributed $1.7 billion in gross domestic product to the Texas economy in 2021. In addition, wind energy projects expand the tax base for communities, which is particularly important in rural areas that often incur reductions in tax collections from agricultural exemptions. During the lifetime of a 100 MW wind energy project, a county can expect to receive $16.8 million to $20.3 million in tax revenue.

Texas politicians trying to shut down wind and solar projects, despite clearly benefiting their constituents.

https://climate.mit.edu/posts/wind-and-solar-power-can-generate-vital-profits-texas-dwindling-farms-and-ranches
Howard, owner of Texas Solar Sheep, has found himself part of a burgeoning industry combining Texans’ ranching sensibilities with the ascendancy of solar energy, a booming electricity source. The pairing of solar energy and sheep ranching is one of several ways renewable energy resources are being integrated into the Texas landscape, providing a second, reliable source of income that can help farmers and ranchers hang on to a threatened way of life. The trick is finding ways to limit energy production’s impact on agricultural land. (This is example of agro-voltaics, being able to successfully combine farming and power production)

Expanding my homes PV array by DIY, need help with permitting!

My current system is 8.1 kw and I wish to add panels which will total 9.9 kW.

I already have the panels and inverters, created the engineering drawings, started the permitting process, plan a ground mount with solid support...

...and hit a brick wall.

The city requires a Master Electrician or Journeyman to check and sign off on the paperwork, but no one wants to do that.

What I have been told, it is to small a job, they becoming responsible for the entire system, other liability concerns, and the best is to small a job or no time to do it (really?). Even a company recommended by the inverter manufacturer did not want to be involved.

What am I doing wrong? What should I say?

QUESTION: Do I need to get a new PTO even though it connects to exist Enphase system?

I live in SW Houston.

Affordable Solar, Roof, and Air effectively closed in Texas.

Chatted with company, they told me the will no longer take new solar customers in Texas, effectively closed local office in Dallas and Houston (doing roofing, HVAC is too competitive).

The Florida office (home base) is open so they do plan to support Texas customers, maybe by sub-contractors? All of the employees I know have new jobs.

IMHO they are one of the better solar companies, so its rough to see them also struggling.

Battery blew up neighborhood transformer, no power for hours. Anyone else have such an incident?

I have 10kWh of battery (with 8kw solar) and am enrolled in a VPP program which triggers a daily discharge at the top of each hour from 4pm to 9pm, typically 5pm to 7pm. Enphase has a
"Profile mode" call "DR Event: Active"

I developed a habit of looking my system on each hour often, and on this day I saw a discharge start 6pm, the Enphase app showing an instant pushing of 7.6kW to the circuit (about 1kw went to house, rest to grid), and a moment later a loud boom in back yard as the local transformer blew up. The timing is far to close not to be related, it was almost instantaneous.
I did see a little oil on corner of transformer box.
My PV was outputting about 1.0 kW at the moment, adding to the 7.6kW going into grid.

I was on the program for a few months and this event happened often. Also the transformer was already replaced a decade ago.

Anyone else on VPP have a local transformer blow up?

Edit additional (my post was not precise enough, answering some questions):
The exact timing of seeing the discharge event during expected time and the explosion occurring 1 to 2 seconds later is why I am connecting the 2.
It CANNOT be the DR Event because my house cannot drain 7.6kW of power, even with everything on. Typical load is 1.5 to 2.5kw.
Yes the utility is fully responsible for calculations and safe operation
I do agree the transformer was beginning to fail and the discharge accelerated and triggered failure.
