Question on those who've done a rapid fat loss/protein sparing modified fast

Hi All,

Ive been flirting with the idea of trying an RFL/PSMF approach to the last four weeks of my cut. I'm currently on week 7 of a twelve-week cut with a ~500 calorie daily deficit and its going ok but i think I need to lower my calories a bit further to get the most out of it and regain abs. I hadn't previously read up on PSMF but happened to get recommended a video talking about it after watching a Solomon Nelson video on YT.

I don't really have any issue with doing it, I'm pretty experienced with various cutting approaches and I'm pretty good at diet adherence. My minor worry is what will happen afterwards. I've been doing roughly the same protocol for the last four years (mainly untracked maintenance calories year-round with two 10-12 week cuts a year) and that's been very sustainable and fit my lifestyle. I'm not competing anymore; I'm 41 with two young kids so it strikes the right balance between flexibility giving me the ability to go have ice-cream with them etc while also maintaining my body fat at a place I'm comfortable with. I don't deliberately bulk, I'm happy with my size for the most part.

For those who have done RFL/PSMF, what was the bounce like after you came off? Ive never gone as low as 1300 per day and I'm concerned that by going super aggressive I might derail a system that's been largely effective and sustainable for me.

To be clear I'm not asking to be talked into or out of it, I'm almost certainly going to do it to find out what it's like but i was interested to know what others had done to transition from PSMF to maintenance and what pitfalls i should try to avoid.

Update on question about FDM versus Resin quality

Hi all,

I just wanted to say thanks a lot to all of you who posted really thoughtful informative comments on a previous post I made asking for input on FDM versus resin quality. Such a great community.

As an update, I ended up finding a second hand unopened Mars 4 for AUS 150. I’ve had it about two weeks now and printed and painted a few models and just thought I’d share an update on my first few weeks in case others came across this post who were asking the same question.

My experience so far: the set up was a bit pricey to buy respirator, gloves etc. I ended up buying water washable resin and I haven’t found the smell or clean up too arduous at all. All in I probably spent another 100 bucks getting all the safety gear, silicone mats, methylated spirits, resin, gloves paper towel etc.

The print quality is a lot better in terms of detail crispness and they are so much more enjoyable to paint both because of the detail and the absence of support scarring and layer lines. Having said that, after priming and painting the differences are almost imperceptible from a distance. I’ve attached a picture of a weird boy I printed in FDM (grey) and resin (black) and from the picture I can barely see the difference. I print to paint, not to play so for me the improved detail etc. is well worth it.

I had a couple of failed prints initially while I figured out burn in layers, layer thickness etc. but now I doubt I’ll ever use my FDM for minis again. I haven’t yet bought a cure station and have been using the sun where I can plus a cheap uv torch which has worked fine. I will probably save for a cure station in future just for convenience but I don’t think I actually need one.

Basically I’m really, really happy with the purchase.

Thank again to everyone that took the time to provide really extensive comments on their experience.

Question for those that print both FDM and resin

Hi all,

Ive been printing and painting models and terrain for a little while now and i really love it. My painting is improving quite a bit and i feel like I'm being held back a little bit by the quality of FDM.

I've got a 0.2mm nozzle and been using optimised settings from FDG, HoHansen, ObscuraNox and tinkering with those to optimise my print quality. To be clear I'm getting better results than I thought was possible from layers of plastic and my larger prints like psychophage, carnifex size are coming out almost without scarring. But even the best print comes out with a bit of detail loss I'm having to paint around.

I'm considering saving for a resin printer to use for academic pieces, stuff i want to really take my time on to get better at painting (i don't play the games, i like the art lol). I use my FDM for a lot of terrain, stuff for my kids and other non-miniature stuff so it would still be my work horse.

My question is, for those who are lucky enough to have both, is the step up in quality enough to justify the cost of the printer, its consumables and the pain I the a** required to handle the toxic resin. I have a workshop in my back yard i can use for resin.

I have a bit of a case of gear acquisition syndrome so I'm also partially asking so someone can talk me out of wasting my money it if it's not worth it lol

Just wanted to say thank you

Hi all,

I just wanted to say a big thank you to everyone who took the time to give answer to the question I posed here about how to start playing simplified dnd with my two kids.

I got some amazing suggestions and ended up starting with hero kids. My kids love it so much, my eldest in particular, so much so that he just made his and his brothers lunch for school tomorrow basically by himself so we had more time to play it together.

Thank you all

D&D with my kids

Hi All,

So ive never played dungeons and dragons before. But my kids (M6 and M7) love games and i thought it might be something fun to learn and play together.

I was wondering if there's resources anyone could point me to about versions(?) of the game that would be beginner friendly for me to learn to be a dungeon master and simple enough for kids my sons' ages?

Looking for advice on how achieve a nice blend on the claws

Hi all pretty new painter here and I’m working on this guy. I want to improve the blend between the black and orange in the claws but wet blending makes an unpleasant greenish colour and glazing the black just looks dirty. Any advice would be great!

Printable add ons for upcycled terrain

Hi All,

New to the community and i was wondering if anyone knew of packs of 3d printed 'add ons' to flavour upcycled terrain?

I quite like turning old boxes and other things that would otherwise go in the bin into terrain, and it looks like there a lot of you who do too. I was thinking there must be packs of things like proper ladders, bridges and window frames and archways to make holes cut in boxes look a bit cooler.

I found this guy The Terrain Atelier on makerworld who has models that use old spools etc. and i've found lots of individual pieces of stuff scattered around the purple site that i can definitely use but thought i would come to the experts in case there was a known repository of this kind of thing somewhere.
