Riding to Oak Ridges Doesn't Have to Be Dangerous

Oak Ridges is mostly cut off from the rest of Richmond Hill when relying on safe bicycle infrastructure. After scouring the map for possible routes (since none of the route planners could find a safe route automatically), I finally found this trail.

To better help other people find this route, I have updated some data in Open Street Maps (OSM), and it seems like my route planner, Komoot, is now able to detect it.

You can go to Bayview Ave/Stouffville Rd to get to this trail using the sidewalk if you prefer not to ride in general traffic lanes even for just a moment.

Definitely not ideal as this trail is probably not maintained in the winter and bicycle traffic is forced to stick to Bayview, making it inconvenient if you need to get to a destination along Yonge St, but much nicer than taking the lane on a stroad.

Perfectly sunny day

I was stopped at Keele and King at 45:28pm today and had a crash happen right in front of me. [EDIT: not sure why my dashcam said 4:28, it was actually 5:28pm.

I waived over one of them to exchange information because I knew my dash cam would capture the whole thing. It wasn’t until after viewing the footage did I realize the red car ran the red light and I didn’t give the footage to the driver that needed it!

If you’re the silver car driver and you see this, reach out.

[UPDATE] thanks to this group, I finally got an email to the officer from the non-emergency line. I’ve sent an email to him/her and hopeful the video will be in the right hands.

[UPDATE 2] video has been uploaded to a YRP portal. Thanks everyone.

This is my nomination for the worst bus stop in York Region

Yonge St / Townwood Dr in Richmond Hill

Stop ID: 2494

Enjoy the sounds and thrill of standing on the shoulder of a road with 2 lanes of 60-80 km/h traffic right beside you, a lamp post for shade, the benefits of standing instead of sitting (a silent killer), while training your patience since the express buses will skip past you here.

Come join our new YRT/Viva advocacy group Strong Towns York Region to start to fix nonsense like this:
