Anybody recognize this part?

This morning I started a print on my Q2 and sometime during the pre-print calibrations and warmup it detected an obstruction interfering with z-axis homing and stopped the print. This metal bracket was laying on the bed near the nozzle wipe/poop chute.

Not sure where it came from or how to orient it once I figure out what it is. Can some kind soul help me get it back where it belongs. A photo of what it looks like in place would be most helpful.

Thanks in advance.

Why is my Ender V3 underextruding?

My Ender 3 V3 has started to underextrude on models that it has previously printed perfectly. It happens with whichever model I try, and with any PLA spool I load.

The extruder is getting fouled with filament dust. (Photo of dust on gears was after only a few hours of printing. There was lots more there the first time I opened it up.)

The filament grinding suggests an obstruction downstream (through the nozzle) or too much resistance upstream, causing the extruder to grind away as it tries to move the filament faster than it will go. After cleaning up the gears with a dry toothbrush, the gears look ok to me (see before/after photos) and they seem to turn freely.

I’m starting with dry filament (8-20 hours in the drier). Manually pushing filament through the heated nozzle gives me a straight thread with no curling, implying that it isn’t a nozzle clog, but I’ve switched out to a new unicorn nozzle anyway, just to rule out nozzle issues.

As for upstream resistance, I have confirmed that my filament spools are not tangled. I’ve removed the filament runout sensor that does add some resistance, but that has made no difference. The PTFE tube between the filament spool and the extruder shows no signs of internal wear. That’s pretty much the whole filament path, from spool to nozzle.

It is possible, I suppose, that the extruder isn’t gripping the filament tightly enough, allowing the gears to slip on the filament. I don’t know how to test for that, though, or an adjustment I could make to tighten the grip.

Heat creep could cause a partial clog so I’ve investigated the hotend cooling system. The fan mounted on the side of the hotend radiator does come on when the nozzle is heated. The onboard menu on the printer screen appears to call this the auxiliary cooling fan, which was defaulting to 50% (see 4th photo). I can’t adjust that during a print so i changed it in the Orca Slicer filament menu to 100% and re-sliced. Still getting the underextrusion.

I’m not getting any temperature error messages, and the onscreen graph shows steady nozzle temps. I’ve tried boosting my nozzle temperature from 210 to 220. Still underextruding.

I’ve tried printing it at half speed and still get the underextrusion.

What else can I check? I’d sure like to get this printer back in the game. Be

Twice this week my print has stopped partway through and can’t recover.

The initial error message doesn’t give much info - only that it has stopped and It gives me the options to review the “Quality Guide”, “Report AI monitoring problems”, or “Print again”. None are very satisfactory. I really just want to resume the print.

Once I dismiss this screen with either “Print Again” or “OK”, I get a screen that says “!!Extrude below minimum temp”, “QDC_100_005_000_001”, and “OK”.

I could not find this error code described at the Qidi Wiki. Both instances have happened since initiated the firmware. Any thoughts on what I can do to prevent this in the future?

No more model thumbnails on the printer’s display?

I updated to the most recent firmware a few days ago (with some hesitation) for my Q2. Since then, I can only see thumbnails for a few of the older print files on the USB drive that I’ve been printing from. Many of the files that had thumbnails before the update now show generic gray boxes instead of colorful modes. None of the models I have sliced since the update show thumbnails on the printer’s screen.

Are others having the same experience? Any suggestions on how to fix this?

Why the corrugated walls?

My P1S is suddenly creating these wavy walls where they should be smooth (first vs second pictures). The effect goes completely through the 5-mm thick model, so it shows up on the inside and outside of the open cup design. It resembles oscillating layer shifts along the X and Y axes.

The effect is not limited to this model (which I have printed hundreds of times). It also happens to other prints, and is particularly noticeable on sloped and curved surfaces (this model has both). Flat, vertical surfaces seem much less affected.

I have cleaned the z screws and lubricated those screws and the rails. I’m hearing some sort of squeaking that I didn’t hear before while the printer is working so maybe a bearing or something is worn out??? The printer has over 7,400 hours on it.

What’s my move here? I’d like to get this printer back in the game.
