Does anyone else struggle with a clingy mantis?

So, i'm not complaining too much about her but I have a Chinese mantis named Colonizer and this little lady so so clingy. She's about the 4th molt I think? i'm still feeding her flies for the time being but I might upgrade her prey very soon. Feeding her has been a pain in the bum because she wants to sit on my hand. That's what she likes to do and it's hard to get her back in the tank while the flies are getting out of the tank. She just molted about maybe late morning the day before and i'm not supposed to handle her for 48 hours! girl get back in the tank your stressing me out!

I love her but darn it is she clingy!

New mantis tank!

I went and got a new tank for my mantis.

The previous pop top was ticking me off so I got one with a door. She was getting pissy with me always disturbing her hang seasons on the bottom side of the lid. Figured this one would be better for feeding her and misting her tank

Am I experiencing workplace bullying?

So this has happened a couple of times at multiple different loctions. Someone in the company will just randomly decide they hate my guts as soon as they lay eyes on me and they make NO effort to hide that. I actully left a good paying job with a sternwheeler becuase most of the staff treated me like absolute sit, isolated me, flip flopped on things then scolded me for it, demanded I work faster but lumped everything onto me while they got to sit around. I left and started working at petco and one of my managers clearly hates me and I don't know why. I always show up, I never no call no show, never have I called out in the months i've been there, and I pick up A LOT of hours to cover for other people. Yet he acts like i'm some complete moron that slacks. I worked at a pervious Petco location before the sternwheeler and there was a manager there as well that did the exact same thing to me despite how hard I work. I mean ya I can be a bit quiet sometimes and I don't always smile but this current manager straight up told me to "shut the fuck up" when I made a joke about me getting older. I can hear the edge, the hate in his voice and then the sudden laughing chuckling voice type when he talks to others. This is becoming a pattern. I try to be funny at work, I try to make people feel comfortable and the rest of my coworkers don't have an issue with me at all. Same story with the other Petco, everyone but that one manager was cool with me. Does anyone have any ideas on how to nip this in the bud or make it stop? or is leaving the only answer to this?

How do we feel about this mantis tank?

The first one is without the black berry and the second one is with.

Normally theres always a couple black berry vines giving her spots to hang and climb but I had to take them out last night before bed cuz they were getting grotty. She then molted the next morning so I can’t do anything with her tank until tomorrow. It gives a good view of the ground cover though!

What are the best sites to sell my belongings?

So before anyone freaks out, no i’m not going to hurt myself.

I am stuck in a city I hate in a living situation I hate and I’ve been stuck in it for 10 years. I’m on a 8 damn hour cashiering shift in the middle of this shit hole and i’m done. I’m fed up.

I am going home tonight to sell a bulk of my stuff off and hopefully boost a little bit of money in order to buy a cheap rv off market place and get the hell out of this place.

Don’t know where I’ll end up or where i’m going but damnit ANYWHERE but here. I’m so sick of jugging part time/seasonal retail work. I have a degree! I have hands on experience with so many other things and it’s all just going to waste.

I’m fed up with getting figuratively slapped in the face every-time I ‘follow the rules’ so i’m gonna start doing some crazy stupid shit instead.

Anyone have any recommendation for good sites to sell some of my stuff off? Something fast, something trustworthy

When to transition

I have a Chinese mantis that recently had her very first molt. She has suddenly become extremely active. I keep her in a small lidded plastic cup with cheese cloth under the lid. She is fed 1 flightless fruit fly a day and is growing very fast. She seems restless. I have a tank already bought and everything I need to transfer her into said tank but i’m wondering if she’s still too small. The tank is about 12in in height and about 9in in width.

Tank set up verdict

What does the sub-reddit have to say about my tank scaping. There are three different species with their own bins. Each of them have their own theme. I’m still working on tank decor to put into the tanks. The grass is not real sadly, it’s fake but the moss is real…and the wood of course lol

Can someone help me gender this mantis?

My eyes can’t properly see the gosh darn segments on the abdomen. Every time I try they kinda merge together in my vision and I’ve come up with a bunch of different numbers when trying to count those segments.

Darn thing is so tiny! Also this is a Chinese mantis. I apologize for the bad picture the little turd makes it difficult to get pictures of them

Are there any insect care related jobs out there?

I am currently on my last ditch avenues in finding a job taking care of insects and invertebrates. I desperately want to utilize skills outside of being a cashier for once. I have 2 years of personal hands on experience taking care of isopods, millipedes, springtail, and my current addition of a mantis. I want so desperately to get into insect care taking. I've been searching and trying for months and i'm running out of places to look into. Does anyone have ANY suggestions? any locations? any ideas? I don't want to have hang this dream up alongside all the others that never worked out. Someone please help me

Mold in springtail culture

I have a clay culture of temperate springtail. The small square shaped plastic container dosen’t seem to have ventilation and I haven’t had any issues until now. I got it from my insect vendor. He’s not known for any issues so it’s something iv’e done.

Any ideas on how to get rid of the mold or should I stop misting and just let them do what springtail do?

Baby mantis won’t eat

So I am brand new to owning a mantis. My father got one of those garden egg sacks and I got to keep one when they hatched. It’s difficult to tell if he’s eating, his abdomen area dosen’t seem to be rounded and rather flat. He’s only around 2-3 days old at the moment. He’s being kept in a small cup with cheese cloth under the lid, a white paper towel on the bottom, and plenty of black berry sticks inside. Ive put some of my temperate springtail in there as well as a single fruit fly in hopes he’s getting enough. I don’t know if he IS eating them and i’m just not seeing it or he’s struggling to find them and catch them. He seems to have the drive to pounce so he is hunting I asume

Ant problem

So currently I am having an issue with ants in my isopod tanks. Mater of fact I am experiencing a massive infestation of ants in only my room. They are in my bed, books, shelves, floor, clothes, they are EVERYWHERE and they aren’t even getting into anything. They are just crawling all over my room on random objects.

Does anyone know how to get rid of them in my isopod tanks?

Came out here to do some bug hunting

I actually did find some interesting stuff! Isopods, millipedes, centipedes, a beetle larvae, and a mealworm! Very successful!

I also thought my campsite looked pretty nice for someone that accidentally forgot their tent well over and hour away back home (I had to rush run to Walmart to grab one)

Is this a beetle larva!?

I found it under a good sized old log along the shores of Sand Island up in the town of Saint Hellen’s Oregon. Ive been exploring these islands for YEARS and I’ve never seen anything like this on ANY island along the Columbia river. I figured it’s a beetle sense it’s so big! But I can’t think of a SINGLE beetle on this river thats the size this larva would pupate into

Google isn't really helping me too much when I try to google it, all the search results keep focusing on setting up the enclosure and not what plants are safe for the enclosure. I got 2 of these from the pet store I work at and liked the way they looked. Sadly my fossil of a phone was at 1% so I couldn't google anything right then and there. I wana put it in my enclosures but I don't want to kill my colonies
