People just standing in the back doing nothing in GA

I’m not sure if this is common enough to be called an epidemic yet, but I’ve seen it enough times in the past couple of days to call it a problem. I don’t mind if someone goes afk for a couple of minutes because life happens, but these are people who will spawn into a match and just sit there not contributing at all for an entire match and in some cases will actively move around and shoot at stuff in the environment but not actually go into the combat. And if god forbid I get put into a squad with one of these wastes of oxygen, I have to be extra careful choosing where to spawn or else be worse off than if I had just gone with the default spawn. I legitimately am at a loss wondering why someone would get a kick out of behaving like this.

Avondale train tracks: WHY?

I understand that where there’s tracks, there’s going to be train traffic. I can have a certain amount of patience for that. The part that I am unable to comprehend is that there will consistently be trains that are fully stopped on the crossing during peak hours when people are just trying to get home from work. This really feels to me like a fundamental failure of urban planning.

Strike is the worst game mode.

I played a few matches to get one of my daily challenges and it just reinforced that fact. First of all the matchmaking in this game is terrible, especially when people leave after the match starts, which isn’t unique to Strike but is more noticeable in the smaller trooper modes. Secondly, the spawn timer is way too long especially for a fast paced game mode with smaller maps. And finally, Aerial units can completely ruin the fun especially on certain maps where the objective is to retrieve a thing and extract it. Like, even back in Classic Battlefront they already knew to disable jetpacks and Jedi jumps in CTF mode for this very reason.

Is the Mos Eisley map just ragebait?

I think the devs did a great job with the look of the map. They made all the locations feel authentic to the movies. But unfortunately that means the map is full of random clutter everywhere and all of it has collision. I can’t tell you how many times at this point I’ve been killed because I was trying to dodge roll and gotten stopped by some random barstool or piece of junk in the streets. And the rooftops aren’t even safe for jetpacks and Jedi because they have stuff all over them too.

Aim Assist: yea or nay?

I’ve been testing both ways out lately and I can definitely see pros and cons for each side. I think overall I’m getting better results with it turned on, but I’m curious about the community’s take. I’m also curious what sensitivity settings y’all are using, because it seems like the default is weirdly low.

Where should I go to buy a car?

I just found out that my previous car is totaled but the insurance payout will make a decent down payment. I haven’t bought a car in the area before so I’m wondering which dealerships are good and which ones to avoid (along with possible recommendations for what model I should buy). I do work that involves frequent travel so high gas mileage and long-term reliability are the main priorities.

(Meta) The “Viggo’s Toes” fun fact

This is a trope for behind the scenes “fun facts” that get shared so frequently that they become fandom memes.

Viggo’s toes (Lord of the Rings) – the titular and perhaps the most famous example of this trope. The story goes that Viggo Mortensen was meant to kick an orc helmet but then fell to his knees and yelled in pain because the hard kick broke a couple of his toes. They kept it in the movie because it added to the emotion of the scene.

The sword guy (Raiders of the Lost Ark) – The story here is that Indiana Jones was supposed to have a more elaborate fight with the swordsman, but Harrison Ford was suffering from food poisoning on the day they were supposed to shoot the scene. So they came up with the idea that Indy would just shoot the guy instead.

Debunked example: Tim the Enchanter (Monty Python and the Holy Grail) – The story goes that this character was supposed to have a more mystical sounding name, but John Cleese forgot the line so he ad-libbed the name “Tim” which was kept in because it was funnier. This story is disputed since Cleese has stated that it’s not true and there are allegedly some scripts from before production that have the name “Tim” already written.

Double Agent: What went wrong?

Flaired for v1 but the question applies to both.

So I know this game has its fans and enjoyers, but it doesn’t have the same level of love as the first 3 games. On paper, this seems like it should be a winning formula. The gameplay is mostly Chaos Theory with some new moves. The story adds some new mechanics around the trust system and branching story points based on player decisions. The levels take you to some interesting new locations that are different from what came before. So why couldn’t this game capture the magic of the originals?

My personal theory is that a big reason is the lack of usual Third Echelon characters. The charm of the first 3 games had a lot to do with the banter between Sam and the crew over his comms. In Double Agent, Lambert is still around but can’t talk to Sam directly most of the time. There’s no Grim, no Redding, just the JBA crew.

Then there’s also the release of two different versions which change the gameplay and story between them and don’t always run smoothly. That’s probably also a big part. But what do y’all think? What other issues held this game back compared to the classic trilogy?

I’m currently looking into building an Elementalist to drop into my ongoing game since my previous character died. One thing I’ve noticed is that all of the ability choices are clearly geared towards different subclasses with the keywords, but yet any Elementalist can mix and match them as they choose. That got me wondering why they made that design choice. I do appreciate the idea of customization, but it leaves the obvious fact that the subclasses feel more like suggestions that don’t end up being all that thematically resonant. Like, you could choose the Fire subclass but not have a single heroic ability involving fire. It just seems a little dissonant to me.
