Are you interested in DailyPolitics?

Hi everyone! I am working on a game called DailyPolitics. It's a game where you lead a political party. You choose your position on several issues, and spend campaign money to target voter blocs you think are most easily pursuaded using campaigning methods of your choice. You must try to convince as many of the 18 million simulated voters as possible to vote for your party!

But the fun part is: the game doesn't stop after the elections! The parties must try to form a coalition. After a coalition is formed, the parties will vote for legislation. Getting into the coalition will give you points, but you must not 'sell your soul' for governing power: if your voting behavior differs too much from what you promised your voters, people will lose trust in you, and the next elections will be very hard. Maybe they will not even show up at the next elections.

And there are loads of other game mechanics. Gather members for your party, choose debate strategies, do voter research, take bribes which helps your next campaign and more. Of course the world is ever changing, so maybe things you promised during the elections, will end up quite different when it's time to vote for legislation.

The thing is, this game is complicated as fuck. I'll probably make a short version of the rules that just list the possible actions, but the full rules are... a lot. And it requires active participation, especially in the coalition forming phase.

My question is: are you interested in joining? It seems like a waste to set everything in place for only 2 players to join. I think I would need at least 4 or 5 players to make this work, but the more the merrier!

In this game you can bet on sports games... games from another daily game: DailyRugby! Everytime a match in DailyRugby takes place, you can place bets on the outcome in this series. You can participate with only DailyBets, only DailyRugby, or with both games. You are even allowed to bet on your own team.

Every new player (players can also join later during this game) starts with 10.000 gems. You can bet any number of gems on specific match outcomes (team A wins, team B wins, tie) and on who you think will win and lose the full tournament. If your prediction is correct, you will gain your bet times the odds, rounded up to the nearest gem. If your prediction is wrong, you will lose the gems.

The odds are determined by a statistical model. The house thinks the odds are fair (so they expect to lose nor gain any money), but the house does not take into account player tactics, so if you are good in estimating those, you might defy the odds and actually gain gems in the end!

De filosofie van het daten

Ik heb het idee dat veel mensen tijdens het daten bezig zijn met dingen als indruk maken, verleiden, veroveren, mysterieus blijven, niet te beschikbaar zijn etc. Daar horen dan ook allerlei rituelen en ongeschreven regels bij, zoals de man betaalt, niet te snel reageren, niet meteen laten merken dat je iemand leuk vindt of een beetje afstand houden. Ik lees ook bijvoorbeeld regelmatig dat een tikkie sturen iemand volledig ‘uit de mood’ kan halen.

Zelf zie ik daten eigenlijk heel anders. Voor mij gaat het vooral om een connectie met elkaar aangaan. Je deelt in relatief korte tijd ontzettend veel met elkaar (vaak veel sneller en persoonlijker dan met de meeste mensen die op een andere manier in je leven komen) en je probeert een emotionele en intellectuele band op te bouwen. Uiteindelijk ben je aan het ontdekken of je onderdeel wilt worden van elkaars leven.

Daarbij hoort (op wat uitzonderingen na) natuurlijk ook intimiteit en seksuele aantrekkingskracht. Maar juist daarom voelt daten voor mij meer als veel van jezelf laten zien en open zijn, dan als een soort spel waarin je mysterie, mannelijkheid/vrouwelijkheid of onbeschikbaarheid uit moet stralen. Tegelijkertijd snap ik natuurlijk dat aantrekkingskracht ook iets speels heeft en dat mensen graag flirten en een beetje spanning opbouwen. Ik vraag me vooral af waar voor jullie de grens ligt tussen speelsheid en een soort datingstrategie.

Hoe kijken jullie hiernaar? Zie je daten vooral als ontdekken of er een connectie is, of ook als een soort spel van verleiding? Welke rol spelen dingen als mysterie, afstand houden, rollenpatronen, niet te beschikbaar zijn etc. voor jou? En waarom kan iets ogenschijnlijk onbenulligs als een tikkie voor sommige mensen zoveel invloed hebben op de aantrekkingskracht?

Ben benieuwd naar verschillende perspectieven, ook van mensen die hier juist heel anders in staan.
