State Voc Rehab Complete waste of time

What is the point of VocRehab if they won't actually do anything for you. I came up with my plan, I took steps to put that plan in motion. I have a five year plan written out to every detail of what I need to do and what's required to do it. I've secured my own funding.

VocRehab is just completely clueless and they have nothing to offer. It was just a complete waste of my time and state resources. I would have been better off not even involving them. They don't remove barriers to your employment. They create them. I need an ebike. It's perfectly reasonable and within the rules of VocRehab and they can justify the expense and it would help not only to get to school, but doctors appointments, the grocery store. They won't even help with that. They want someone with PTSD to be trapped on a public bus for hours and I'm just not going to do that.

I specifically looked it up to see if it was actually a thing to get help with, but apparently not in Florida. I just don't understand what their role is other than create more paperwork. They won't even help with a computer for school. They won't help pay for transcripts. They won't help with any school application fees. Nothing.

College admissions departments

It's been a few years since I've been looking to enroll in a university degree program. I'm an adult student. When I was first in school if you called a school to inquire they were sending you pamphlets, calling you all the time, sending marketing materials for the school. They reminded me of bill collectors because they would call so much.

As an adult student I've reached out to multiple different programs and I only heard back from two. Both of those responses were auto generated.

I even went so far as to directly email these admissions offices and here it is a week later and I haven't had a single call back.

I know right now isn't a great time for admissions/financial aid because of new laws, but I figured I'd have to start blocking numbers by now with them trying to get me to go there.

Am I going to have to pay to apply just to get to get someone to talk with me? Has university admissions changed that much? Is it my timing?

Background check restrictions

You know, I'm sorry, but if we can have a man that has been convicted of 36 felonies by a jury of his peers involving crimes that wiped out hundreds or thousands of people's savings and money then people who are convicted of nonviolent felonies should never get denied a job for being a felon.

It should never happen. We put a convicted felon in the highest office in the land why can people convicted of less be barred from employment or professional licensure? It makes no sense.

He has access to top secret classified briefing materials. He can (and has) literally manipulated the stock market. On numerous occasions involving the announcement of hostilities w/ Iran.

He is pardoning fraudsters left and right. Not small time crooks. These folks have stolen billions collectively and he just signs a paper and poof it all goes away.

I just don't understand how we can tolerate such blatant hypocrisy and double standards. If you're rich you can r*pe, m**der, steal. No one cares if they do it.

You get convicted of a felony and any hope for us is gone. 20 years later and that stupid choice you made is still locking you into poverty. There's no relief for regular non-rich folks.

You can work your tail off for years, do all the right things, becoming what they wanted you to become. You've helped others in your situation. You don't even jaywalk. At what point is your debt repaid? How long are you supposed to be punished for?

It's just crazy and I can't imagine how many people out there are held by this fact. I know some states are taking action to reduce this burden, but even those states are still imposing restrictions when the job's income reaches a certain threshold.

I'm not suggesting we completely erase it, but there should be reasonable pathways for people to actually reintegrate into society. These restrictions arbitrarily limit the earning potential of millions of people.

I think this actually feeds recidivism. People mess up and they know any chance of doing better has just up and evaporated and now you really have limited options and you have to eat. What incentive is there to actually do right?

I just think people should have a way forward out of it. One that doesn't involve so many hoops. If you messed up as a young adult and 20 years go by and you aren't convicted of another felony in those 20 years I think you should be able to redeem yourself. It keeps talented people out of jobs.

Google Assistant privacy

I just got this one today and I went to fill it out and discovered that if you're a privacy class member you have to provide the serial number, model, and IMEI number of the device you had when this occurred. Like most people, I trade my old devices in. I have no idea how I'm supposed to even find that info.

You also need a unique ID and a PIN. I have mine, I just don't know how I'm supposed to get this other stuff.

Facebook Second Round

I just got the second round payment from the Facebook class action. It's funny, this is more than I got the first round.

Found

There was some work being done to install fiber optic lines and I guess when they were digging this guy made himself known. This is a Cochran & Co. Belfast rounded bottom soda or mineral water bottle from the late 1800s. This bottle would have been the type present here when Thomas Edison sailed into FTM in 1885. Who knows? The person that threw this bottle away very well may have been friends or knew either Edison or Ford.

Edit: it has a rounded bottom because it was meant to be stored laying on its side. It was a cork topped bottle that had to stay wet in order to keep the cork from dry rotting. Only other imprints are a "2" on the bottom. These bottles were blown into molds made from cast iron. This was found really close to the riverfront. Near where those new condos are going up. Probably tossed from a cart or fishing boat. Maybe washed ashore from further upstream.
