Moving question

My father put together this Empire clock many years ago. He passed away and was the only one in the family who really knew how to pack it up, if need be.

I have a decent idea, I was able to take most of it apart to be moved into a new house.

To get the face/moon phase out, it looks like I need to unscrew this piece of wood behind it.

The clock is only going 1 mile away. Would it be crazy to leave the face screwed in or should it be taken out? Does anyone see a different way the face should slide out? My thought is to avoid unscrewing it to preserve the wood.

Should I rent an apartment with mini split only

I’m trying to sort through information. We found a great apartment and got approved for it. Only thing is that it’s heating/cooling all comes from the mini splits.

After researching, I’m a little concerned what our bills are going to look like. What questions should I be asking?

Tomorrow my realtor is going to try to reach out to the electric company for records but I’m not sure what information we will get. I hear they can let you know how much the bills have cost at the location in the past but who knows.

Trouble Eargasm filter

I cleaned my Eargasm earplugs today and now I am trying to get the filters back in. Has anyone else had trouble with this? Any tips?

It makes sense why this would be hard but I just can't get it. have been trying to follow what I can find online but nothing seems to be working. I'm going to a concert tomorrow, so any help is greatly appreciated.

Watermelon spoiled?

A few days ago, we cut half a watermelon (just plastic wrap over the top). Today, we took it out and cut it into smaller pieces/cut all of the rind off.

Where the rind was cut off, all the pieces have a little bit of a slimy texture. I only noticed this after we all ate it. Does this indicate spoilage? I think it could be normal but I don't really know - we usually leave the rind on the pieces.

Recorder for contact mics/hydrophones

How good of a recorder does one need, if it is meant only for contact mics/hydrophones?

I’m getting back into this (sound art perspective) but have never used hydrophones before.

I had a Tascam dr40 from when I was first experimenting years ago but it broke.

I was going to buy the same device on eBay, unless there are better options. I know there are other recorders that are recommended but I’m not doing anything fancy. I’m not sure I need the upgrade, especially if it sacrifices battery power (I hear the new Tascam tends to drain quickly).

Don’t get me wrong, I want to get nice recordings but I also don’t mind cleaning things up in post, if I have to.

Low vs High Impedance Hydrophone

I'm getting back into playing around with sound art. I already have a Tascam DR 40 but I used to use a low impedance contact mic with no knowledge of what that meant.

I'm looking to get a cleaner signal, so I thought that I should try a high impedance product. I will likely get either a Metal Marshmallow or Ed Devane's from Soniphorm.

That said, I'm also curious to play around with hydrophones. Seems like people often recommend CrankSturgeon.

I think I could probably run it through a preamp to clean up the signal but I don't want to carry around too much - unless it really does make sense. What do you all use?

Edit: messed up the title. I actually meant passive vs active products. Not high/low impedance

[General - NY - US] Is it worth it to be a NYC landlord to offset your mortgage

I have searched this a few times but I am still trying to figure out if this is worth the hassle.

My family owns a house in Queens that is going to be sold. I don’t want to sell it because I live here but I don’t believe we can really afford to buy it from our family member.

It is a 2 family home, so my wife was suggesting that we rent out one of the apartments. After tax, I personally don’t think the money would be worth the trouble. However, I don’t actually know what you have to pay as a landlord. I’m under the assumption there are extra fees/tax than normal income.

What would you do? If we don’t buy it, we will be renting.

Banks to cash Series I paper bonds over $200 face value?

I see a few people have had the same issue that I am having. I have a few $500 bonds and Chase won't cash them for me because they are over $200. I'm going to try speaking with the manager/other locations, as suggested in other posts.

But I was wondering, has anyone had success cashing bonds over $200 at a bank?

Chase didn't know what to do, they directed me to treasurydirect.gov but as we went through it together, it clearly says to cash these bonds at any bank. I think over the past several years, banks have set limits but surely some banks out there still cash them?
