Moments Stolen By High Blood Sugar/General Rant about Illness in the USA.

I'm a 28 year old man. I was diagnosed with type one diabetes in the first grade, and I was the first person in my state to receive an OmniPod insulin pump through Medicaid. My A1C1's have always been excellent, but I just can't help but feel like this disease has stolen moments from me, or at least made it so that I haven't been able to fully soak in the joy of certain things during occasions when my blood sugar is out of whack. Still, I am lucky to be able to afford insulin, have a Dexcom G7, and OmniPods. To be frank, I do not know how the vast majority of folks are able to afford living with this disease, at least in the United States. I called my Senator and asked why he voted against capping the Copay of insulin for everyone at $35, and his office told me I could go to a community managed health center if I needed reduced cost insulin. Sorry, Senator Tillis, that isn't a solution to the affordability crisis of insulin in America.

All that being said, I am grateful to be alive, and I've found ways to listen to my body and effectively manage this sometimes debilitating illness.
