Anyone here applied to HK universities with MOI instead of IELTS?

I’m currently doing my bachelor’s in CS in India and should be graduating around mid 2027. I’ve been looking into applying to universities in Hong Kong for higher studies and maybe eventually working there too.

The thing stressing me out a bit is the English requirement stuff. My university’s medium of instruction is English, so I can get an MOI certificate from the university, but I keep seeing different answers online about whether HK universities still ask for IELTS/TOEFL anyway.

I really don’t want to mess up something small and then realize too late that I’m missing a requirement, especially because that could basically delay everything by a year.

For people who applied to HK universities as international students:
Was MOI enough for you or did you still need IELTS?

Is it just safer to give IELTS anyway?

Are there any things people usually overlook during applications?

How early should I start preparing realistically if I’m targeting 2027 intake?

Also I’m interested in CS/data/AI-related work opportunities in Hong Kong later on, so if anyone has experience with internships, networking, part-time work, visas, etc. I’d really appreciate hearing about it.

Just trying to make sure I don’t miss something important early on.

this city is woven into my heart.
it breathes hope into me, making every struggle feel purposeful.
between the electric energy of the center and the quiet peace of the edges,
it is a world all its own.

Hey everyone,

I’m currently navigating the "online application black hole" and, frankly, I'm tired of being just another PDF in an ATS.

I’ve completed two Data Analyst internships where I lived in SQL, Python, and Tableau, but I’m finding that the best way to showcase my skills isn't through a portal—it's through a conversation.

If you’re a recruiter or hiring manager in Hong Kong. I’d love to buy you a coffee (or a virtual one).

I want to show you what I can do and hear what you’re looking for in a candidate. No strings attached, just a human conversation to see if I’m the right fit for your open roles.

If you’re open to it, please drop a comment or DM me.

I’d love to connect.
