Has anyone bought the Boston Sax Shop online repair course?

For almost $800 it seems like a lot.

I don’t have the luxury of apprenticing right now so I’m relying on Matt Stohrer and any other good video resources out there along with some books.

It’s mostly the price that I’m not sure about - I know they offer a Pay in 4 payments thing.

Why do flute pads require shimming?
Saxophone pads use shellac or hot glue
I imagine clarinets do the same
Why don’t flutes use shellac to create the pad seal. Either way pads move and shrink over time causing leaks no?

Ok. I might end up on the saxophone hit list from any of the big names but to be honest is buying an Eastern Music horn bad?

I’ve read threads and it really seems like a lot of the boutique sax brands like Ishimori, JL Woodwinds, and possibly P.Mauriat buy their horns from Taiwan and do the setting up at their factories.

Maybe they do their tweaks or whatever and then upsell.

Like be for real. Do a long and hard comparison with Eastern Music horns and compare them to any of the Ishimori or JL Woodwinds horns.

Obviously these repair technicians are like wizards and can make a piece of paper play amazing so their work is worth a lot of money. But a $2000+ upcharge?

No update on where we can park scooters.

Stupid how in the original post they said any scooters parked on campus after the ban would be seized and confiscated, hinting that you’d probably never get it back.

Lot of mixed emotions because this whole thing was spun out of control by both parties; administration and pedestrians.

Think about it, as much as scooters are liable you also would have people completely hogging the sidewalk down the middle or walking face down on their phones and completely swerving into the path of scooters. I actually experienced that like 3 times and that was with me going like 10mph.
No scooter lanes added in the roads near Kremen or anything.

Yes some scooter users were crazy too but where’s the tickets? Where’s the traffic enforcement? Why can’t there be anything done about those or the students who live far away from campus without a car. I would see stupid scooter drivers risk driving when crosswalk was red during prime traffic - and considering we live in Fresno that’s pretty brave.

But no, let’s ignore all of this and turn a blind eye to the fact Victor E Bulldog has a 2024 Lexus SUV that was probably paid for full in cash and the CSU Presidents salary is $523k

I know the financial aid office has posted everything that has changed with disbursement of loans and everything.

They have a post saying August 18 loans will be disbursed.

I’ve also googled and it says loans cannot be given out sooner than 10 days before classes.

I’m pretty stressed because I’m running low on money and I have other things like rent I’m going to need to address early August - don’t think I can wait till mid/late August.

Thoughts?

Has anyone had luck with dating apps within 50 miles of Fresno? Specifically hinge or tinder.
I was unfortunately dealt with expired face card so the likes or matches are non existent as a guy.
Just tryna find my special lady and my main hobby is a dude orientated thing.

Also someone told me about Love On Tap speed dating but I’m younger so not sure if other young people do those events or if anyone has had luck with them?

I wanted to see if anyone can offer any guidance since this is a long story

Basically I’m a college saxophone major and I wanted to try to get my foot in the door with instrument repair.

I had asked around at a local repair shops and after asking multiple times and one of the main repair guys let me start coming in.

Throughout the time I was there, there were some instances were I was f-ing up. Like I would mess up when he was telling me to cut a cork and teaching me how to disassemble and reassemble a clarinet. There were some times were it felt like he was basically yelling at me and I could tell he was not happy with my work - despite me coming in like once a week for 2-3 hours.

He even asked if I had a learning disability - which I was kind of shocked. To be honest I don’I even know myself if I do. I remember just telling him that I was just nervous and wanted to leave a good impression (there are not many instrument repair stores where I live and this is a pretty high traffic shop).

Eventually I stopped begging the guy to come in after he’d tell me they were busy and had no benches for me to shadow in.

This leads me to my question.

1. I would really love to learn how to repair instruments, even though I’m a performance major. Is there any good instrument repair schools for me to look into that offer assistance with job searching? I know there are schools like for dental hygienists that help you find jobs.
2. Would someone in my position even bother asking again in the future? I feel like if you’re teaching someone a very specialized trade, there are not many opportunities to get hands on experience. Maybe if I move for grad school I could reach out to a different shop?

I’m not sure if it’s common in places with individual rent (Palazzo, Avery, Bulldog Village, etc) or just a Fresno thing
But does anyone have problems with getting bad roommates?

My current roommate has a dog and is always barking.The girlfriend also has access to the apartment which is technically against the lease but at this point I’ve just gave up since people don’t like to be told and it isn’t as bad as my previous living situation.

My previous roommate was a complete slob who would smoke weed inside the apartment, and had his girlfriend living in his room for almost 3 months. She was also a slob and wouldn’t clean up after herself, and they would always wake me up in the early hours of the night with loud s*x noises.

At this point I’m tired of putting up with people’s bullshit and just want my own place. It’s really hard for be to justify paying like $500-600 more a month though.

Anyone else have experience dealing with this?
