Michael’s Mechanical Pencils

A few weeks back, Michael regaled us all with his love for mechanical pencils and went over why each one in his collection is great (or perhaps less great than the one before it). I IMMEDIATELY bought each one and have been using them religiously ever since.

I thought I was alone in this, but was chatting with my sister about podcast recommendations, and I was like, “OH MY GOD. You need to listen to TRIS with Michael and Hannah.” Her response was to light up, exclaim that she loves the show, and then ask, “Did you watch the one with the mechanical pencils? I bought all of them!” And then went into her purse and produced a Pentel Orenz.

So this has me thinking: are we alone in this, or did anyone else also buy the pencils?

Boops for Phoebe and Hector?

Phoebe (front) and Hector (back) are BFFs who survived a lot of sad stuff, met each other at the rescue, and have been attached at the hip since I adopted them in 2021.

Introducing new fish into an older tank with an older fish?

I adopted Uno, Dos, Tres, Quattro, Cinco, and Seis (all male guppies) quite some time ago. It is an established tank (pants, bacteria, etc.) and the water parameters are Capital-P “perfect.” Old age started taking my boys one by one, ironically leaving me with just Uno who has been holding down the aquarium (with some Black Racer Nerite Snails) for the last two weeks.

He looks healthy (if somewhat chunky, because he’s been eating too much), though his colors are not as vibrant as they once were. He’s lived a good life, but I had the weirdest thought: would it be a good idea to introduce him to some girlfriends?

I could adopt some female guppies and give him the chance to finally flex that peacocking he has been doing since I got him on some ladies. Is this weird?

My concerns are that the ladies could have some illnesses that an older fella like him might not be resistant to, spelling his doom. Also, would I suddenly have a huge population of guppies assuming he’s able to mate, and if so, what would a baby guppy situation even look like?

Jurassic font?

I would like to get JP.09 tattooed on my left leg in homage to my favorite toy, the 1993 Red Rex. The JP is easy, as I have an image file I can print for the artist, but I was curious if there is any info on the font type of the 09.

Is this a common form of harassment / annoyance?

I’ve been playing Path of Titans since November of 2023, exclusively as a solo player on Officials. I have had tons of experiences, both good and bad, but yesterday has me feeling… not great. And maybe harassed?

The server was timing down, with 20 minutes on the clock. As there were only 67 people on the server, I figured I’d be okay to go to one of the busier areas on the map. I was on my Alio in the Savannah Grasslands and 5 minutes in, I was attacked by a melanistic Achilo and an albino Pachy. Despite my best efforts, I lasted all of 45 seconds. I log back in and type “Mixpackers in SG are lame”.

That was it.

I went about my business picking up pinecones to get back to fully-grown. A minute or so later, I get a group invite. I never accept them, so it timed out. Also, who would want to group on a dying server? Then another minute later, I get a ‘way stone’ invitation. Again, I never accept them, but thought it was odd on a server with only a few minutes left, that I’d get two back-to-back invitations. Then, I get an X-Box party chat invite.

I don’t have a screen cap/video of any of this, but I do still have the party invitation from X-Box. I just don’t know if this rises to the level of report-worthy harassment and/or if I could even prove that any of the three invites were connected. All I can say is that, for the first time in like three years of playing POT, I logged off feeling less than good.

Is this a common experience that I only just recently had?

Best Vacation Spot in PoT?

In lieu of a real vacation (because just getting by is super expensive) I’m living vicariously through my Alio who is living his best life at Ripple Beach. I love this zone, from the visuals to the sound of the waves.

Do you ever find yourself hanging out in a specific zone of the game (be it Panjura, Gondwa, or Ripara)? If so, where?

Human Figure Wishlist

Though I love the dinosaurs of the Hammond Collection, I display the ones I own in dioramas from various scenes from the movies. The difficulty for all the movies aside from JURASSIC PARK itself is that the sequel human figures aren’t as available.

My wishlist is for:

LW:JP

- Nick Van Owen (I think there is one coming?)

- Eddie Carr

- Kelly Malcolm

JP3

- The Kirbys

- Billy

JW

- Gray

- Zach

How about you? Am I alone in wanting more humans?

Snake in my basement! (Hudson Valley NY)

Found this critter in my basement while doing laundry. Tiny (maybe 9”) so I’m thinking it’s a baby.

I swallowed my fear of snakes, put on oven mitts, and gently put it in a cardboard box and took it outside.

Is this a baby black rat snake?

Assets that need to be “out of containment”

I managed to snag a Spinosaurus a while back and somehow completely forgot about her! Today I saw the Indominus Rex (which I thought I’d miss out on) on the shelf at my local Target.

What’s on your SDCC 2026 Wishlist?

What is your absolute craziest wishlist item / set for the 2026 SDCC exclusive? Last year was decisive, with some upset that the Buck was an exclusive, so maybe not something that would largely appeal to the masses. That said, what dino/human/set would you love to see?

For me: Kelly Malcolm and the Tiger Raptor from the gymnast scene. A re-release (maybe improvement?) on the Tiger Raptor with a new Kelly figure would be niche enough. Also, the only thing I love more than that scene in TLW:JP is how telling people in the fandom how much I love it makes them freak out at me.

Where are all my guppies going?

I've had six male guppies for the last three years kept in a 20 gallon set-up with natural plants and the PERFECT water balance. Over that time, I've lost three (so just three remaining). What's curious is that the ones I lost? I really LOST them. As in they disappeared, one by one. The fact that the tank has a lid (that completely prevents anything from getting in or out) is what is really confusing me.

Back in December, I fed them, went to bed, and when I woke up I was down to five. I checked the filter, rooted around the plants, and nothing. Same with the fifth and most recently the fourth. I noticed the night before they disappeared that they didn't look "right" and sort of placed them on a "death watch".

My question (and maybe this is for a /snail sub?) is that I have three black nerite snails in the tank with them. Is it possible, when my guppies "swim off to the big tank in the sky" that they black nerite snails devour them, bones and all? It's the only thing I can think, but it seems crazy, because it's a matter of hours (one night).

Overcoming fear

I’ve been terrified of snakes since I was a child (I’m mid-40s). Thankfully, I’ve had lots of exposure to garter snakes since moving to a rural area, and these guys are chill as heck.

I’ve even named the one that lives by my pool “Clotilde”. This is NOT Clotilde, but rather a slithery garden noodle I noticed while weeding my hostas.
