Does anyone just wanna be friends?

Carleton Uni student here, and I’m studying CS and math. If I’m being honest, I’m a bit too work/career oriented to get into a relationship right now. But I’m happy to make some friends! Sadly this is the closest sub I’ve found for that.

That’s about it. I’m 20M, and I’m looking for some chill people to hang out with when I’m not studying or at work.

I can’t process real time words anymore

I’m lowkey kinda crashing out over this I just can’t function in social spaces with inattentive ADHD. People say stuff and they keep having to repeat. It’s annoying. A guy and I had a whole convo and I didn’t even know 90% of what he said. My brain REFUSES to process auditory words. As a result i suck at work despite being obsessed about performance. Retail sucked for me too since I suck at instructions. I’m literally just a useless human being

I’m so tired of myself atp. Convos are too fast paced sometimes and I legit feel dumb for sitting like a rock understanding NOTHING. Can’t blame anyone if they think I’m just a low IQ individual. It was not this bad as a teenager, I could have handle several instructions at once while I was a server and execute them immediately. Quick and easy. But now? Now it’s like my brain is asleep.

Fortunately this doesn’t happen 24/7, but it still happens frequently enough to be an issue. Maybe the ADHD part just got more severe over the years idk. My stress levels have also increased around 3x since teenagehood so that could also be a factor.

Is it possible to get a job as a server in Ottawa with no experience?

Uni student here. 20 yo. Only experience I have is Hospitality(Luxury concierge), retail/customer service, warehouse, summer sales(one summer job), and a 1 month restaurant intern role(at like 16).

I also have security.

Certs: Smart serve, CPR/AED Lvl C, Diploma, Security licence

Tried what I could, optimized for ATS, maximized keywords, nothing works. Fastfood is also somehow just as bad. I also went into restaurants in person. Some restaurants want at least 3 years exp. One posting im on right now wants minimum 5 years. Not sure what to do now.

I wonder if its best to give up on it and just go back to retail or maybe another concierge role? A job that pays my bills is nice, but server roles gives me the most money per unit time especially since Im a stem major so my time is limited.

Is it possible to do MATH 1152 if I already did 1104/1107?

Its not even like I have a strong reason to do it such as switching majors or mandatory for a minor. I simply want to do it for fun since the normal lin alg felt like it lacked depth(still very fun), but at the same time I dont wanna do 2152 right after 1104 since the jump would be too brutal

Do i just suck it up and do 2107 since 1104 precludes 1152?

How to do you guys play sudoku for fun without watching the time?

I just cant do it. When I started playing, the next day I solved some easy puzzles and felt proud of myself. Then went on the reddit and saw people doing it in 3 minutes. Yet it takes me double digit minutes to do mine. My PR was 9 mins.

Its not fun if im not fast. Got so fed up I just quit lol. Like it was just as stressful as chess.com for me somehow. Im not even joking. Even the stopwatch felt just like how I was attached to my ELO rating. Has anyone fell into this trap?

Looking for people to collab with for tech projects

Hi. I'm wondering if any CS majors (or adjacent, such as software Eng, systems eng, cyber, devOps etc) would be interested in collaborating and consistently building some projects together

I think working with others is a good way to build larger projects(and honestly a shortcut tbh since more people can get more work done in a smaller amount of time), learn from different perspectives, and combine complementary skill sets. A lot of enterprise level projects require knowledge from multiple areas, so I thought why not find people who are interested in building things together rather than working completely solo since it’d be more efficient

I mainly specialize in low lvl programming, embedded systems, and full stack IoT, but I also have experience with backend development and networking. The general areas I work with are

- Embedded/IoT: ESPIDF, ESP32-S3, NVS, i2c, uart, SPI communication (mostly C/C++ work)
- Backend: Java Spring Boot, Docker, PostgreSQL, Qt
- Networking: MQTT/Mosquitto
- Currently trying to figure out: Kafka, Redis, NimBLE, OTA, Watchdog

Currently looking for anyone(or multiple people. If we have enough people I’d be down to even make a small team) into frontend, backend, AI/ML(especially this), or basically any software field who wants to consistently work on projects and see them through. We’d start during the school year at fall since I’m currently occupied with my own projects atm.
