A look at Racine's 32 Flock cameras, local misuse disclosures, and how we can demand action at Common Council.

Have you noticed those sleek, black solar-powered cameras mounted on utility poles around Racine lately?

They aren't just taking photos of speeders. Manufactured by third-party vendor Flock Safety, they log a continuous, searchable record of everyone's daily movements, recording license plates, vehicle colors, and exact timestamps across 32 locations in city limits and surrounding county corridors.

From internal police misuse investigations in Racine to high-risk false alerts in Waukesha, the risks of this mass surveillance network are becoming impossible to ignore. Other Wisconsin communities are already ending their contracts. It's time for Racine to do the same.

Read the full investigation and find out how to contact your local alderperson, mayor, and county board: https://samwunderle.substack.com/p/racine-we-have-a-flocking-problem?r=58m1j&utm_campaign=post&utm_medium=web&showWelcomeOnShare=true

Priorities Revealed: Why Tom Tiffany’s Record Disqualifies Him for Governor

A governor’s main job is to protect and care for the people living in their state. But a candidate’s voting record reveals their true priorities.

Throughout his career in public office, Tom Tiffany has repeatedly voted to send billions in federal military aid to fund foreign bombing campaigns, all while voting to cut food stamps, undermine Affordable Care Act coverage, and strip away reproductive rights from women right here in Wisconsin.

We deserve a leader who puts working families, women, and children first. Read my latest article breaking down his record and why it disqualifies him from leading our state.

I Wrote About Every Team in the East and Have Concerns about the Pistons Complacency

“The Detroit Pistons were the ultimate regular-season surprise last year, dominating the Eastern Conference landscape to secure the top seed with an unbelievable 60-win campaign. Led by first-team All-NBA superstar Cade Cunningham, Detroit embraced an athletic, fast-paced young core alongside Jalen Duren, Ausar Thompson, Ron Holland, and Daniss Jenkins. Balanced out by veteran production from Tobias Harris, Kevin Huerter, and Duncan Robinson, Detroit felt like the fresh, rising power in the East. However, that magical regular-season story ended abruptly in a brutal second-round exit against the Cleveland Cavaliers. Duren struggled immensely against Cleveland’s twin-towers frontcourt, averaging a quiet 9 points and 7 rebounds while shooting just 50% from the free-throw line—eventually getting outplayed by backup Paul Reed. Relying heavily on Harris as the secondary scoring engine proved flawed under postseason pressure, Jenkins was inefficient, and Thompson’s lack of half-court scoring was exposed. Meanwhile, physical enforcers like Holland and Isaiah Stewart—the heart of their regular-season edge—saw their roles slashed down to single-digit minutes.

Instead of doubling down on that 60-win foundation, the front office responded by completely shaking up the roster with a series of cap-clearing moves. They allowed Harris to walk in free agency to the San Antonio Spurs without securing a true high-volume scoring replacement. To shed long-term salary, they shipped Stewart off to the Memphis Grizzlies and flipped Caris LeVert to the Milwaukee Bucks, taking back John Collins, Taurean Prince, Gary Harris, and future second-round capital. As a Milwaukee native who rarely misses a Bucks game, I can tell you firsthand that Prince and Harris offer virtually nothing beyond veteran leadership and the occasional corner three across ten sporadic bench minutes. Collins—who Detroit acquired via sign-and-trade on a three-year extension—makes sense on paper as a more explosive replacement for Stewart who won’t rack up suspensions, but he hardly elevates this team’s playoff ceiling when the game slows down. I do think Isaiah Joe will be able to help provide a spark off of the bench once in a while, as I did enjoy his game and shot profile in OKC, where I believed he was underutilized. I also understand being skeptical of this as he is a player that OKC is letting go. Can you trust that, with how well they assess talent?

The single biggest cloud hanging over the Motor City right now is the contract standoff with Duren. Entering restricted free agency off his first All-Star and All-NBA nod, Duren is eligible for a massive max contract extension, but his disastrous playoff performance left the front office hesitant to meet those demands. Committing elite money to a center with glaring postseason limitations is a terrifying gamble, but letting the situation sour is equally dangerous. Cade’s brilliance will easily carry Detroit into the postseason once again, but nothing about this off-season gives you a legitimate reason to take them seriously as a true Eastern Conference title contender.”

IJW: Obsession (2026)

My fiancé and I put on Obsession on Peacock yesterday while recovering from a long weekend, and I went in expecting a standard horror-thriller, but it completely blew past those expectations.

For those who haven't seen it, the premise follows Bear (Michael Johnston), a socially awkward guy who uses a supernatural "One Wish Willow" stick to force his crush, Nikki (Inde Navarrette), to fall in love with him. Predictably, dark magic doesn't give you a fairy-tale romance—it manifests as a violent, terrifying obsession.

What makes this movie work so well is how seamlessly it balances dark, satirical humor with genuinely disturbing body horror. Directing-wise, Curry Barker keeps the tension relentless, but the real standout here is Inde Navarrette. Her physical acting as the cursed Nikki is incredible—the unhinged posture, the sudden shifts in movement, and especially that smile are going to be stuck in my head for a while.

About 25 minutes in, the scenes demanded so much of a reaction that I started writing down minute-by-minute thoughts as the chaos unfolded (including the absurdity of the curse helpline, the infamous Jenga scene, and that ending twist).

Verdict: 10/10 recommend if you like dark, fast-paced horror, though definitely not something to watch right before trying to sleep.

Has anyone else checked this out yet? What did you think of Navarrette's performance and how they handled the ending?

(If anyone is curious to read my full timestamped live-reaction log, I posted the breakdown on my Substack https://substack.com/@samwunderle/note/p-208630158?utm_source=notes-share-action&r=58m1j, but mostly wanted to get a thread going here to see what horror fans thought of it!)

I wrote a full ranking of 22 Superstore characters from best to worst—from Glenn down to the foot serial killer. Where did I get it wrong?

Just finished bingeing the entire run of Superstore from start to finish. I genuinely think it’s one of the most underrated modern sitcoms and belongs right next to The Office, Parks and Rec, and B99.

I put together a definitive character ranking covering everyone from Glenn (#1) and Dina down to Carol and Elias (#22).

I’m Voting for Francesca Hong for Wisconsin Governor and You Should too.

As a teacher in Racine Unified, I see the cracks in our system every single day. Our kids can't thrive in the classroom if their families are being crushed by housing costs and economic stress outside of it.

That’s why I just published my latest piece on why I am supporting Francesca Hong for Wisconsin Governor in the August 11th primary. For me, this isn’t just about shared values—it’s about structural policy design. From universal childcare to a moratorium on corporate tech data centers, Francesca is the only candidate offering a real governing plan to protect working-class utility payers, renters, and families.

Read my full breakdown of the race, the recent shifts in the primary, and why Wisconsin is ready to tap into its deep roots of solidarity on August 11th:

I Watched Every Single Second of Bucks Summer League

The Milwaukee Bucks are officially moving in a completely fresh direction, and the summer circuit just wrapped up. There might be some growing pains ahead in October, but there's plenty of young talent to get excited about (hello, Brayden Burries).

I did a deep-dive, player-by-player review of literally everyone who touched the floor these past two weeks. Read the full breakdown of the new-look Bucks here:
