Why do I still go to church, though I am really an atheist?
It is quite ironic; I go to church every weekends, even plays piano for worship, and attends every church events, but have not actually practiced it from bottom of my heart since my brain grew up. I know I am not alone in this. Millions of us still sit in pews, sing along with the crowd, and bow our heads, while quietly doubting whether the God we praise could ever actually exist.
And yet we go on believing, half-believing, or none-believing.
Because for human beings, the existence of God that has plan for every individuals and Jesus Christ that sacrificed himself just for the salvation of manly beings is not merely tempting, but profoundly reassuring, for that it is the yearned-for being that provides both a moral compass and a sense of ultimate purpose that transcends the uncertainties of earthly life.
Yet God cannot ever exist. At least, if such a God does exist, He never interferes in our world.
Human beings emerged not from divine craftsmanship but from the slow unfolding of evolution. We stand within the same continuum as gorillas and bonobos, in which we all share the same fragile chain of DNA that binds life together. Bible never is a revelation from a transcendent sphere. Rather, it is a mere artifact of human imagination and longing, only meaningful while human exists. Yet when scripture is invoked to validate itself, reason falters, for circularity is immune to rational refutation. And here lies the paradox. Not a singular God-believer suggests that gorillas or bonobos, when they perish, are judged and dispatched to eternal realms of heaven or hell. Their deaths are understood as simple cessations, simple dissolving of carbons into matter. Yet for human beings—whose distinction from those animals is a mere fraction, less than a single percent—the narrative of eternal reward and punishment is insisted upon. Why should a difference so minuscule in biological code carry such immeasurable metaphysical weight? Hence, it is not biology itself, but our consciousness of mortality, our capacity for self-reflection and symbolic thought, that births the longing for transcendence. Humanity invents eternity because it cannot bear the silence of its own termination. Heaven and hell, then, may not be destinations decreed by God, but projections of a species uniquely aware of its own insecure contingency. In this sense, theology becomes anthropology: every doctrine about God is, at its root, a doctrine about man.
The reflexive answer so often given for the question of why the universe exists, is that “Because God created it.” And in a certain sense, that may grant God a place as an explanation, or perhaps as a placeholder for what we cannot otherwise explain. But such an appeal to God, even if it accounts for origins, does not by itself provide evidence for a God who guides us, who shapes our plans, or who intervenes into our daily lives. The leap from a first cause to a personal deity is vast. God posited to explain existence itself may be nothing more than a metaphysical principle, an ultimate ground of existence itself, rather than a shepherd who listens, commands, and redeems, whose image applied on humans. To insist otherwise is to portray human hopes into the structure of the universe—to confuse our delusional longing for meaning with the reality. In this sense, even if God exists as the origin of the universe, such a God remains silent, hidden, and indifferent: a horizon beyond which we project our need for guidance, but from which no answer ever returns.
But why do I, or we, still go to church? We, human beings, have never reached to an answer to the simplest question of “Why do we live?”—for every philosophy falters, every science stops at description, and every wisdom tradition circles back into silence when pressed to its end. So, I go to church; because it embodies, and incarnates of the hope that such a godly being exists, and to the longing for the solace and comfort His presence would offer like a beacon over a stormy midnight ocean. It may be only a mirage, yet if even an unreachable lighthouse can guide us through darkness, what difference lies between the real and the unreal? That is to say, what matters?

reddit.comHow is "aleatorio" in Portuguese different from the one in Spanish?
I've lived in Paraguay for a long time, so I speak Spanish to a native level. However, I found that there is a clear difference in the word "aleatorio" in Portuguese, compared to Spanish.
I've seen a video where a Brazilian girl tells his boyfriend "Imagina que sou uma mulher aleatória", and then starts kissing him, seeing his reaction. (Basically it is a social media challenge) I didn't really get the word "aleatoria" here, because in Spanish, that word is rarely used to describe someone you don't know.
What is the difference lying here?

reddit.comGreyhound stop?
I'm taking greyhound from Dallas to Tyler this week, but I really have no information about Tyler greyhound stop. Is it like an actual greyhound station like the one in Dallas, or is it literally just a stop and they just drop you off in the middle of nowhere? if that's the case, how are you even supposed to get on the bus back to Dallas(luckily, I'm taking Uber lol)? Also how is the safety there during the day? A lot of homeless?

reddit.comClosest you can get to Kyrgyzstan experience in Almaty?
This summer (June), I'm planning to visit Central Asia, but due to a visa issue, I'll only be able to visit Kazakhstan and won't be able to visit Kyrgyzstan.
Scenery I would like to see is lush, green, alpine meadows, scattered tall trees, rolling hills, under snow-capped peaks, and a turquoise lake, so basically somewhat like Switzerland. I think I can find this scenery in Almaty in places like Kaindy lake, kolsai Lake, and big almaty lake.
However, I'm not sure if I can do activities in those meadowy places other than hiking. The activities I would like to do are horseback riding, archery, stargazing, and yurt glamping. All of them are experiences I can primarily have in Kyrgyzstan. Is there any way I can do this type of stuff near Almaty, Kazakhstan? I know Almaty isn't a tourist-heavy place and isn't really part of nomad culture, but I would still like to try something similar.

reddit.comTyler <-> Dallas Uber/Lyft feasible?
I'm pretty sure from Dallas -> Tyler Uber/Lyft would be possible since there are many more drivers, and I've taken Dallas -> Austin on Uber millions of times(with my friends), and I never had problems finding a driver despite it being a long drive.
However, I'm not sure if any Uber/Lyft driver would be willing to take Tyler -> Dallas drive. Has anybody tried Uber/Lyft between Dallas and Tyler? Does it work, or should I just go take Rose Transportation?
Btw I know rose transportation isn't particularly more expensive than Uber/Lyft, but the only reason I'm saying this is because I have a friend going with me, and if we are taking Uber/Lyft then we surely would be able to split the fee in half. I'm not sure if that's how it works in rose transportation.
What jazz(piano, sax, drums, guitar) song is this? Record file.

Ok, so in most cities I've been in my life, a bus takes pretty much the same time as driving there, if you only count the time spent moving between bus stations. In some cities with efficient BRT systems, it's even faster than driving, even considering the additional walking.
However, I found that CapMetro is significantly slower than driving, even if you only consider trips between bus stations. It's often more than 3x slower than a car, which is ridiculous, because they use exactly the same route, and somehow the bus is running 3x slower than a car on the same road. Don't even talk about the additional walking after getting to the bus station.
Why is it like this??
