Stop being a generalist – pick one niche and watch your rates climb

If you film for every niche, brands see you as a generalist who doesn't truly understand their audience. Picking one specific industry helps you stand out and builds trust way faster because you already know their customers and what makes them buy. Your portfolio feels more relevant and founders can immediately picture you working with them.

When you become known for one type of content, you can charge more and clients start reaching out to you instead of the other way around. Have you picked a niche yet or are you still trying to be everything to everyone?

The outreach mistake that cost me clients and how I fixed it

I used to send generic DMs like "Hey, here's my portfolio" and got ignored constantly. Then I stopped selling videos and started solving their problem by checking their content, mentioning something specific I noticed, and sending a quick sample video directly in the DM instead of just a link. Sending samples made a huge difference and my reply rate improved significantly. Smaller brands were also way more responsive than bigger ones. Stop pitching and start providing value. For those doing outreach, do you send samples or just your portfolio link?

Gemini Notebook knows my study habits better than I do

I fed Gemini Notebook my old assignments and asked it to compare semesters. "What mistakes am I still making from first year?" hit hard. Same concepts tripping me up across different subjects. I just kept switching topics so I never saw the pattern.

"What do I keep avoiding?" exposed my blind spots. And "What actually works for me?" showed I learn better from recordings than rereading notes. My old work literally told me what I was doing wrong. Anyone else had their own notes humble them?

My mother destroyed my confidence and now blames me for being quiet

My mother can be so hateful and harsh, cursing me and calling me the R word, but then when she is not in this mood, she is all gaga over me, which I hate even more. I can't stand to listen to her words, let alone spend time with her, and this is her biggest complaint that my children don't sit with me.

Every time there are guests around or strangers present, I get very tense that anytime now she will scold me, call me stupid, or simply laugh at me and encourage others to laugh at me too. This behavior of hers has brutally splintered and squashed my self confidence. I have never felt confident anymore. I don't talk much or stand out. I am always tense that I might do something stupid all the time or say something wrong.

Even then, she has a problem that I can't speak to people when she is the one who has squandered all hope of repair.

My mother broke me and now wonders why I'm silent around others

My mother can be so hateful and harsh, cursing me and calling me the R word, but then when she is not in this mood, she is all gaga over me, which I hate even more. I can't stand to listen to her words, let alone spend time with her, and this is her biggest complaint that my children don't sit with me.

I am always tense that I might do something stupid all the time or say something wrong.

Even then, she has a problem that I can't speak to people when she is the one who has squandered all hope of repair.I keep this abuse to myself because I don't want to sound bitchy about my own mother. So I stay quiet and let everyone think I'm just shy or rude, when really I'm just terrified of being humiliated in front of them.
