A 24-year-old IT engineer, Vaishnavi Omkar Gisre, died by suicide at her residence in Pune’s Wadachiwadi on Thursday night, just four months after her marriage. Her family has alleged prolonged mental and physical harassment over dowry, claiming they spent around Rs 45 lakh on the wedding and gave 116.64 grams of gold, but her husband and in-laws allegedly continued demanding another Rs 5 lakh to buy a car.

According to a complaint filed by her father, Pravin Raghunath Jarande, Vaishnavi married Omkar Sanjay Gisre, 28, on May 9 this year. Police said she died by hanging herself from a ceiling fan at her residence. Following the complaint, police registered a case against her husband, father-in-law Sanjay Mahadev Gisre and mother-in-law Rupali Sanjay Gisre under relevant provisions of the Dowry Prohibition Act and for abetment of suicide. Further investigation is underway.

Multiple reports published today, September 22, 2026, report that Nandan Yadav, identified as the main accused in the Jamui molestation case and seen in the viral video wearing a red/saffron-coloured gamcha, was shot in the leg during a police encounter. Bihar Police's ADG (Law & Order) reportedly confirmed the police action.

Reports say:

• Nandan Yadav was among those allegedly involved in the September 19 incident involving two Class 10 students in Jamui.
• Police reportedly located him near Madwa hill and an encounter took place.
• Police say the accused fired while attempting to flee, after which police returned fire; Nandan was hit in the leg.
• He was subsequently taken to Jamui Sadar Hospital for treatment.
• Another accused, Harem/Hare Ram Yadav, was also injured during the incident, according to reports.
