My autistic daughter nor we were told about “exceptional circumstances” during her Scottish Highers — and now it’s too late to do anything about it

My daughter got her Higher results this week, and they weren’t what she — or we — expected. She has autism (the school has known this the whole time), and since her National 5s we’ve noticed her capacity has been declining under pressure, even though her ability and work ethic are genuinely high.
During two of her exams she was clearly exhausted. I asked if she wanted to consider sitting one out. She said no — because as far as she knew, her only options were “push through” or “don’t get the qualification.” Nobody told her, or us, about exceptional circumstances or assessment arrangements. Not before the exams, not during, not after.
I’ve since learned that the SQA’s Exceptional Circumstances Consideration Service has to be applied for by the school, and only before results are issued — the window is 10 working days after the exam in question. So that door is now closed, through no fault of hers or ours.
I’m angry. Not really at the system in the abstract, but at the fact that a school who knew about her diagnosis didn’t flag any of this to us beforehand, when it could have actually made a difference.
Has anyone else dealt with something like this? Specifically:
• Has anyone successfully pushed a school to explain why this wasn’t raised, or gotten any kind of accountability after the fact?
• Is there any value in going through the Appeals Service even though it’s a different process from exceptional circumstances?
• Any advice for making sure this doesn’t happen again for Advanced Higher / resits — how did you get assessment arrangements properly documented in advance?
Any experiences, even just “this happened to us too,” would help right now.

Reassurance

I’m here looking for reassurance. I had been on 40mg fluoxetine for years -felt it was pooping out in Jan 2026 -tried citalopram for 5 weeks but didn’t like that so am back on fluoxetine

4 weeks 20mg

I feel like crap on day 13 of 40mg and I’m having all these negative worries about the 40mg being ineffective like it was before .

I take concerta daily too and I don’t know if that’s adding more anxiety to the mix

I was given diazepam (uk) for the increase but it has zero effect on me

When will I feel the ‘lift’ I’m looking for

Behaviour changes MJ -not just food

I have been on MJ for about 18 months now -I’ve lost so much weight but I could not understand why I wasn’t enjoying the new me !

Since last summer -I noticed how insular I was becoming , my life was shrinking . I repeatedly had urges to go out but at the 11th hour something increasingly would stop me -I thought I was going mad.

My feelings of aloneness and loneliness grew and grew , I altered my anti depressants which caused huge amounts of distress causing this push/pull in my mind more so I went back to my old anti depressants-I calmed down but I was left seeking help for OCD -which I’ve never considered before .

I didn’t make the connection between MJ anhedonia and my life changes and growing depression -I didn’t know about this side effect

It dulls all anticipatory motivation across thd board -it’s very effective but it’s caused me major behavioural changes
