What to look for in a children's story? (book/show)

I am an aspiring children's book author. I want to be more well-versed in child development and education before publishing my first book to ensure my stories are able to genuinely resonate with children and aid in teaching important skills/lessons.

In general, what are the elements of a story (even in a TV show) that experts suggest taking into account? Or, as a parent, what do YOU personally look for? What differentiates a regular children's book versus something you recommend every parent reads to their children?

In other words, if you could make your ideal children's book, what would it include?

Feel free to list anything; it can be illustrations, character dynamics, storytelling style, how the4 characters handle conflict, etc.

I know stories are nuanced, and there is not a singular checklist of items that constitute a great book, but I'm hoping to gather as much feedback as I can from both experts and parents alike. Any resources would be awesome too!

HYSA recommendations for inconsistent income as a student?

I am a student in community college, fortunate to live with my parents, so I can dedicate time to focusing on schoolwork instead of balancing it with a job. My income is from pet-sitting/walking on the side and is inconsistent.

I do plan to get a "real" job when I transfer to a university next fall semester; I know I could just wait to open a HYSA, but I'd like to get started ASAP. I figure I can always change to a different bank later if things change, but lmk if it's not that simple!

Forbright looked like a good option, but I am not local to their locations, so I can't open a checking account with them; I'd prefer instant transactions between checking and savings accounts, just as a safety net.

Does anyone recommend a HYSA that seems to fit my criteria below? (I have $3k cash right now, if that changes anything.)

Criteria:

  • Good reputation/trusted (pretty important to me)
  • Instant transactions with checking account (preferred)
  • Compatible with most ATMs
  • Doesn't require minimum deposits/specific activity in account to keep a decent APY for a HYSA (non-negotiable)
  • Compatible with Zelle (important!)
  • At least 3.50% APY is preferred, but I am thinking it might be too greedy based on my criteria 🙈

Thanks!!

Why does Gemini think Dr. Poi Sonai isn’t real? Is there a conspiracy that he’s fictional or something? How can it even get away with spreading conspiracy theories?

My first job interview is next week! What’s some advice you wish someone told you before a job interview?

I have a job interview coming up, my first one! I would love some advice.

What should I expect? What mistakes did you make? What do you wish you did differently?

If you’re someone who has hired/interviewed someone before, what did you look for?

Is Transfer Buffs LLC worth it for 3rd years?

I’m planning to transfer from (very isolating) community college for my 3rd year in fall of 2027, and am looking at housing options in advance.

I’m struggling to decide between living on-campus via the transfer LLC, or living off-campus like most non-freshmen do.

The reason I am interested in Transfer Buffs LLC is for the opportunities to meet people, as I’m assuming on-campus living would provide me a greater sense of community than living off-campus. (?)

My concern with on-campus living is that I will feel like an outsider being one of the few upperclassmen on campus, or that I’m limiting my circle to meet people my age even more.

Does living on/off-campus make a difference in your social life much?

Is anyone able to vouch their experience with transfer LLC/if it’s worth it socially?

Thanks for the help!

I'm young, how do I avoid being taken advantage of/scammed?

I'm 19, and have had my car since I was 16, but as I get older and less reliant on my parents, I want to feel confident that I'm not being scammed when I get repairs.

How do I spot whether they're upselling me/giving false urgency?

What are some lines/tactics/red flags people might use to take advantage of my novice knowledge?

I'm open to learning more too, but idk where to start, and I'd love some advice from mechanics with morals on here. Thanks for the help in advance!

P.S. People on Reddit can be SO cranky, and I don't feel like reading snarky comments, so please only reply if you have something helpful to say!

Umbrella for walking multiple dogs

Does anyone have particular umbrella recommendations that are hands-free/easy to use when walking multiple dogs? I've been sitting for a family with two dogs, and between holding two retractable leashes, poop bags, and an umbrella, my hands get full!

Multi-dog households: What are things you wish you knew before getting a puppy while already having an older dog? I plan on getting a male Golden Retriever puppy within the next 12 months and already have a female (spayed) 50 lbs pit/lab mix who is 7. Any tips on preparing my older dog or myself?

Strings

Hello! I’m looking for help finding strings for my OscarSchmidt OU2E ukulele. There’s so many options on Amazon & Idk what to choose! I humbly snapped a string when tuning, so I obviously haven’t been able to play much recently lmao

I like to do as much research as possible before buying something, and I’m at the start of my research process right now, so I’m hoping this post will help me make my decision, so I appreciate any help!

If my experience makes a difference:
I first started playing the ukulele about 8 years ago, but only for a few months before I got distracted or something. I have played the guitar more recently, but am still a beginner in that realm.

If there’s any other things I should consider before choosing strings, please lmk, I’m super new at this and want to learn as much as I can!
Thanks!!
