Henry Archer Verden GMT: a 7 day review

I promised a review of my new Henry Archer Verden GMT Raven. I‘ve had it on m wrist for most of the last 7 days since delivery. Here is my personal review and some data.

Ordering and delivery: Ordered on a Thursday and it arrived on Monday. Coming from Denmark to New Jersey that is pretty darn quick. Was satisfied with the price and there was a 10% discount and tariffs included in the price.

Unboxing: Didn’t realize it included a very well made 2 watch travel case. Kudos to Henry Archer. Watch was packaged and presented well.

Stats: measured 39.1mm case, 47mm lug to lug, 12.5 mm height. this is 1mm difference on the lugs and 0.5 mm on the height from the website.

Setup: took a bit to get the time, date and GMT hand set up. Just going to take time to learn it so it’s second nature.

Finish and bracelet: it really is a well made case (sorry for the typo mentioned in comments!!) and bracelet. Sizing was super easy with the screws rather than pins and the sliding micro adjustment is simple. The dial, indices and hands are easy to read with the polished gold on the black dial. I wish the bezel was a bit more brushed rather than polished but I still like it. The bracelet has a great taper from 20mm to 16mm. Quick release spring bars make it easy to change. Female end links make it comfortable on my wrist. I have a 6.5” wrist and it feels just perfect. Not too small or too big.

Wearablity: I tried it out with a black sailcloth and a black and red NATO (both from BluShark) and they both look great. However, without the bracelet the inside of the lugs feel a little rough which you can feel with the straps.

Sundry: I am not a huge fan of presentation backs. Don’t really care as I can’t see it when wearing. But, for this price range, it’s a pretty decent view. The crown screws out and in easily. Put it on the time graph. Showing +14 sec/day, 308 deg amplitude and 0.1 beat error.

Ask me anything and I will try to help.

[Discussion] how do you choose your watch for the day?

I am curious for those with several watches that you wear. as you are looking at your line up, on what basis are you choosing one watch over the others on a particular day? is it to match an outfit, or just a vibe? I get that if it’s a formal occasion it’s one of the dress watches, or I am working in the yard so it’s a beater. But when several watch choices will do, what are you thinking?

Lord Elgin with 989 movement and 2376 case

Trying to find out a bit of information on this and hoping anyone can help. It’s a nifty little watch that is running ok. Needs a cleaning and oiling and maybe a crystal but otherwise running and losing a couple minutes a day. Only paid $40 so not much invested.

Here is what I know:
Lord Elgin with a 989 movement (which I think is based on the SA1882. Inside of the case back is marked Elgin SA Neuchatel which I think makes at least the case made at the Elgin Swiss entity and maybe after the demise of Elgin in the USA but I am just not sure. Haven’t uncased the movement yet. Crown is marked with a stylized E.

Would appreciate any wisdom from the group

Lord Elgin 989 project

Going to give this one a shot. Lord Elgin 34mm cushion case with a super clean 989 automatic that seems to want to run. Any tips on this movement would be super appreciated

A cool surprise with my Henry Archer Verden Raven

Just unboxed my new Henry Archer Verden and got a really cool surprise. It came in a double watch travel case. I had to go back to the website in case I missed it but it was no where listed that it would be included. What a great travel case and what a great surprise!!! Have only been wearing it for a couple of hours and liking it so far. I’m going to live with it for a few days before posting some thoughts about it. But if you have specific questions, let me know.

The stock bracelet is just not doing it for me on my Stretto. Hollow ends and I am in between links so with only two adjustment positions I can’t get a good fit. Either a little loose or a little tight. Has anyone replaced with a third party bracelet that gave a good fit at the lugs and either more adjustment holes or a quick adjust clasp?

Picked up the Farer Pembroke 1 from their recent release of display models and other leftovers. I loved this when o first saw it and was disappointed it had been sold out and replaced with the Pembroke 2. So glad I could get this!!!
