Bullseye Dormers
Thankfully had really excellent and detailed drawings from the architect. Mocked up the roof in the future living room and built 2 of them as units. Framing crew lifted and set them.

120 linear feet of retaining wall.
Had never formed anything like this. Had formed a couple residential footing/stem wall and slab foundations.
Wedge ties every 12” about half way up the wall then every 24”. Doubled 2x4 strong backs every 4’ tied together through the forms with threaded rod, bottom middle and top. Cat walk to work on while pouring and finishing.
Considered forming with MDO and snap ties, but looked into how forms are built that way and decided to board form it simply due to lack of experience with snap ties.

Considered using MDO and snap ties, but started looking into how form work is built with those i decided to board form it, simply due to lack of experience in forming with snap ties.
Also lacked experience in having a sense of how strong is strong enough. So it’s got wedge ties every 12” or something like that about half way up, then I increased the spacing, can’t remember the spacing. Also have vertical double 2x4 strong backs that are held together each side with threaded rod, washers and nuts, bottom, middle and top. Built a cat walk to work on around the outside perimeter.
I have been meaning to read a bunch of the Red Hand Files for years, but never got around to actually doing it until now and I’ve the found the web site completely down. Does anyone know if this is just a glitch, or if it will be back up?
Can anyone help me understand the rear axle situation on Orbea Rise LT?
The axle goes in on the disc brake side, on that side the axel is labeled 10NM for torque spec. Ok simple enough.
But the piece it threads into on the derailleur side is labeled 25nm counter clockwise/left hand thread. The two units thread into each other. Why is one side labeled 10NM and one 25nm?
It’s developed some play in the read hub, so I’ve been checking torques. I don’t fucking get it.
I thought maybe the piece on the derailleur side was more just the linkage, holding the chain stay and seat stay together, and it was torqued to 25nm before the axle would thread into it. But there’s nothing else it threads into. It’s just a bushing with threads to accept the axle.
I can’t figure it out.
What tire pressure are yall running for tubeless wheels?
I’m at 20 lbs. front - 29x2.5 MAXXIS Exo +
22 lbs. rear - 29x2.4 MAXXIS Exo +
22 and 20 seems to work great, but I run lower in my lightweight CC bike.
On my 25 lb. 120mm cross country bike I run 15 PSI in the front and 18 in the rear, same tire sizes, less beefy casing.
What do you people like?
I usually mountain bike in Auburn, but I’m looking for alternatives, so today I tried some trails around Folsom lake in Granite Bay. I looked mainly on Trail Forks to see what was available. I parked near the marina and rode Browns Ravine trail. I rode about 11 miles out and got to a parking lot where I rested for a few minutes then turned around and started the retrace my route back to where I parked.
Within 1/8 of the parking lot a private residence abutted the trail, a fence separated the yard from public land. A dog came running towards me in the yard, then a man yelling. At first I thought he was yelling at the dog. I heard him yell, “YOU KNOW YOU’RE NOT SUPPOSED TO GO THERE!!!” I rode on a little bit, then for some reason it became clear he was yelling at me. I stopped because I couldn’t figure out what was going on, or what he thought the problem was. But he yelled at me with spittle coming out of his mouth, and with a rage that might be appropriate if I had killed one of his children. He screamed “YOU’RE A PSYCHOPATH WITH NO REGARD FOR OTHER PEOPLE!” He was screaming a lot of other things. Can’t remember them all, but I mean, really losing his shit. Really unhinged. If he was closer I would have considered him a serious threat. He was out of his mind with anger.
Just as I had stopped, and he was calling me a psychopath, I was amidst 4 hikers. They had no problem with me being on the trail, and probably wondered why I stopped to let a guy berate me. One of them said to me, “just ignore him.”
But my question is: is the trail open to bikes or not? The guy screaming yelled that I had passed several “no bikes” signs from the parking lot I turned around in. But still, I had ridden 11 miles to get here, and passed a lot of bikes along the way.
Guy didn’t ruin my day, but anyone else run into this psychopath? And WTF, trail is listed as MTB on trail forks.
I’m not sure why happened, but all of the sudden it was clear the moderators were taking a heavy hand to this sub. It made it bland. And the traffic has gone way down.
