We've had two shocks yesterday as Germans finally lost a pen shootout against Paraguay. Later in the day slightly less of a shock Morocco took down the Netherlands in another shootout.

We're halfway through the tournament in the number of games played and left.

So far 5 teams have left been eliminated they are

Haiti, Turkey, Tunisia, Jordan, Uzbekistan, and Panama. We will lose another 11 by Sunday.

From now on all four teams in each of the 12 groups will play at the same time. With 2 matches kicking off at every single time slot starting today.

With final group positions impact potential routes to finals etc teams will be keen to make sure they get the easiest route possible!

While the USA has become the second team to qualify. Turkey who always seem to be dark horses and then flopping have crashed out of the tournament even though they were again 10 men Paraguay for 45 mins.

Mexico became the first country to qualify for the second round.

Canada won their first ever game 6-0 against Qatar but the match was overshadowed by a horror injury to Ismael Kone. Caution if you are curious and search the video, it's a horrible sounding one as you can hear the bone crunching.

Finally my team England won 4-2 against Croatia in the game of the tournament so far....it's coming home guys!!!

Major news today Cape Verde have drawn against Spain today. Spain most people's favourite for the competition this is a massive result.

Looking back since my last update Germany put 7 past Curacao, at one point Curacao scored to make it 1-1.

​

Australia beat the Dark horses every tournament Turkey 2-0.

​

Scotland Won against Haiti.

​

Ivory Coast won it at the death against Ecuador.

​

Sweden beat Tunisia 5-1 with rumours swirling the Tunisian coach has been sacked...wonder what he'll be doing with a paid hotel and transport for the next couple of weeks at least.

Belgium and Egypt both drew 1-1.

​

The USA started with a 4-1 against Paraguay.

Qatar picked up a point against Switzerland which is massive, like one of the underdog stories.

Scotland win narrowly against Haiti.

Turkey, who seem to be everyone's dark horses every competition got smashed 2-0 against Australia.

But the game of the tournament in terms of play was the 1-1 by Morocco vs Brazil.

Mexico one of the other co hosts started with a 2-0 against South Africa. The real story was the 3 red cards! 1 for Mexico after South Africa picked up 2.

The other big controversy was the "hydration" breaks, which seem like an attempt to break the play into the quarters and fit in more adverts.

Hope everyone is happy with their teams! Here's a quick summary of the format for the newbies!

The 2026 tournament is the largest ever, with 48 countries competing. Using world rankings, the teams have been drawn into 12 groups of four countries.

​

The top two teams in each group automatically go through to the next phase - which is known as the round of 32.

​

Winning a match earns a team three points. Draws gives both teams one point. A loss means, you guessed it, zero points. Each match is 90 mins long with 2 halves of 45 mins with a 15 min break.

​

The rest of the round of 32 teams are made up of the teams who came in third during the group stage and had the best overall results. Sixteen teams are eliminated in this phase.

​

At the round of 32 it becomes a knockout tournament, the winner continues and the loser goes home.

​

From here on the matches if drawn after 90 mins will go to extra time where we continue for another 30 mins to see if we can get a winner. If we still fail to have a winner then it's dreaded penalties, which is a best of 5, if that fails penalties continue until we get a winner.
