Career path

I’m currently a senior in HS and want to pursue a career in civil engineering, but there are so many different paths you can take with the degree. I’d love to hear about y’all’s experiences with the degree and where you ended up. I already have some work experience in an R&D lab and a good understanding of ASTM standards and lab operations, but I want to see what else is out there.

Civil Engineering

I’m currently a senior, and I want to pursue a career in civil engineering at an HBCU.
My weighted GPA is a 3.65/5.0. My ACT is a 19 (horrible 😭). I want to retake it, but I’m running out of time.
Activities:
Football for 2 years
Track all 4 years
Clubs:
0 currently, but I’m joining my school’s Black Student Alliance club.
Community service:
30 hours at an African Methodist Episcopal church
Experience:
I interned at Ozinga Construction over the summer and gained some pretty good hands-on experience in the field of civil engineering while working around like-minded people. I also got a letter of recommendation from my manager.
I want to go to NCAT because my grandparents went there, but I’m probably getting denied. What are some other options or things I can do to boost my application? I’m already deep-fried, but I’d love to hear anything you ladies or gentlemen have to say.

Do I have a chance of getting in

I plan on majoring in civil engineering my gpa is 3.65 weighted, I got a 19 on act, and taken 1 AP class and passed. I did football for 2 years and im doing track for 3, I got 70 hours of community service, I'm summer help at a construction company helping me learn more on civil engineering, and I took a college prep class at north western this summer. I'm also technically a legacy both of my grandparents went here. I'm 80% sure this is were I'm going to end up going but I'm out of state and heard it's hard to get into out of state.

Best HBCU for engineering?

I don’t have exceptional school stats, but I have a 19 ACT score, a 3.55 GPA (3.65 weighted), and I’m a track and field athlete. This summer, I attended a college prep seminar at Northwestern University. I also have been working as a summer helper at Ozinga, a construction company, where I’ve gained experience related to my interest in engineering. In addition, I have completed about 50 or more hours of community service at an African Methodist church. My goal is to become a civil engineer, and I’m considering the Morehouse College 3-2 Engineering Program. Throughout high school, I’ve taken two advanced classes and one AP class, earning a score of 3 on the AP exam. The Reason why I want to go is because the school has a brotherhood I've grew up in a predominately white community where I stand out for being black and get treated differently I want to be at a school where I see people like. Another school I've been thinking is Ncat my grandparents met there and been telling about how good the school is.
