I don’t belong here

Supposedly I have adhd, ASD and bipolar.

I think I have completely made it all up. I’ve never done any of typical bipolar stuff. No crazy mania nothing more than a good mood.

Depression, yeah, but everyone gets that from time to time right. I am no different.

I know exactly what’s wrong with me . I am a sad middle aged person with a boring life who needs attention. That’s it nothing else. I want be in a club or a group because I’m not. I’m nothing.

As soon as my responsibilities are done I’m out of here.

Can you get it in your ankles?

Hi all

I’m still relatively new to this and wondering if my current issue is related to PsA.

Basically woke up with sore ankles a couple of days ago, completely out of the blue. It’s gradually got worse and is causing me to limp. I had a couple of days of extreme fatigue also but that’s it. I’ve noticed the more I sit/lie still the worse they get.

I’m assuming it’s PsA but thought I’d ask as I’ve never had it there. I don’t want to just blame every issue on it.

Thanks

Edit- woke up and can barely walk it’s that bad now. I gather this from being still all night. Will call the Dr and see if they can prescribe anything whilst I wait to start methotrexate.

Episode questions

Hi All

I’m still newly diagnosed and therefore monitoring moods closer than ever.

Recently I had a depression that ended with some strong (for me) hypomania for a few days and then mixed days like half hypo half depression with some “normal “ moments.

Is it unusual to go hypo after a depression? I felt like my brain was literally waking up for a party! And also, are these mixed days normal like flipping multiple times per day?

It’s so hard to process reality when your mood changes so drastically and quickly.

Thanks

Newbie questions

Hi all

Was only diagnosed 6 months ago so trying to make sense of it all and learn some more. Also diagnosed ASD and adhd.

I recently had a month long depression, pretty standard by what I can tell. But towards the end I started getting really agitated and was pacing around the house feeling doomed and trapped. This was bloody awful. I dont drink anymore but god at that moment I wanted anything to stop the thoughts and feelings.

Then I had a brief period where I actually wanted it all to go wrong, I wanted chaos , to be sacked etc. I had loads of energy but wanted disaster?

Then I had a few moments of feeling normal and then about 3 - 4 days of hypo, the strongest I ever recall. I had times of euphoria that were so intense it was incredible I could feel it surging through me! I was so happy and talkative to everyone I couldn’t stop. My sleep went from 9hrs to 4. I was aware of it and the more I thought of it the more scared i got. I knew these feelings were too strong in a way. I felt I was close to losing it completely. Luckily things settled and I’m now still full of energy but it’s manageable.

The whole thing has took it out of me. I’m struggling understanding who I am when my thoughts and perceptions can change so drastically. What’s real me and what isn’t. For the first time I feel I have scary illness. I checked my records and the last time a depression ended I was hypo also. Happens the other way round to but hypo periods tend to be longer.

Through all this I was on lithium and prn olanzapine

Can I ask does the above sound typical or unusual?

Also, I know of masking from adhd/asd but do you do it for bipolar symptoms, I think I do . And I think I was losing that mask in the last episode, that was scary.

Does anyone also notice that senses are all turned up to 11 - sound smell colours all much more vivid and strong. I don’t know if that’s bp or ASD or both.

Thanks for reading

End of depression episode

Hi all

I’m relatively newly diagnosed so now tracking my moods and symptoms more closely.

I’m on lithium and have spent the last month in an awful depression. What’s intriguing me is how it’s ending. So I went from completely depressed/anhedonia etc to angry fuck the world and destroy everything mood and then to part depression and part hypomania. For example today I was in tears this morning and then in the afternoon looking at the sunset feeling like I was on top of the world! This was all over about 4 days.

I feel calmer now and hope I’ll settle but I am struggling to sleep….

Is the above odd do you think? To me it felt like hypomania was coming after the depression but maybe the meds helped stop it and only some got through. Weird.

I also find the switch in mood very unsettling. It’s like having two completely different personalities. My interpretation of life and the world has shifted 180 degrees. How can I trust anything I think or say if it can change so drastically?

I’m hopefully having some Dr time next week to look at additional meds to add to lithium. Hopefully I can balance out a little more.

Thanks for reading!

Newbie question

Hi All

Am recently diagnosed so just learning more about the condition and me I guess.

I’ve currently go some pain in a tendon on my foot and I’ve noticed it’s worse after resting it. So in the morning or after being still. Is that typical?

However I’ve also noticed pain elsewhere (toes hip) during a flare that obviously hurts more when you use it lol.

So are you basically screwed for using and not using joints lol!!

Is rest or movement best??

Thanks

Anxiety attacks from steroids

Hi all

I’m wondering if anyone has had severe anxiety attacks from steroids?

I’m In bit of a pickle, I was trying some new medication (Lamotrigine) and at the same time had 2 Kenalog jabs, one a depot. I then had some horrendous anxiety attacks.

The Dr tells me Kenalog can cause this, but also people report it with Lamotrigine! So I don’t know what to do, risk it and try again or cut my losses. I’m happy there are alternatives to Kenalog but I really wanted Lamotrigine to work.

Mmmm what to do!

New diagnosis experience

Hello all

I was referred to our local NHS rheumatologist and recently had the appointment.

The Consultant was absolutely fantastic. Appointment took about an hour and went over my history, private scans/reports I’d had and they did an examination. I was worried as I’ve not had a serious flare for months I’d be ignored but no.

They recommended starting methotrexate for which I’ll get another appointment.

All in all it was a great experience and I look forward to hopefully being rid of some pain!

Hopefully this gives some confidence to those on waiting lists

All the best

Mania from alcohol/stimulants/drugs

Hi all

I’m trying to figure out the answer to this and have seen differing answers. If someone has mania/psychosis due to medication(stimulants/antidepressants ) or alcohol use does this count as a bpd or not ? From what I understand it doesn’t but so many people seem to be diagnosed from mania from medication or alcohol.

Thanks!!

Pain relief options

Hello,

I’m currently on the NHS waiting list but have been diagnosed privately. I’ve not started any treatment.

At the moment apart from morning/overnight discomfort/stiffness I’m OK. My worry is what pain relief I can use if/when a flare hits as I can’t take NSAIDs. Am I stuck with Paracetamol/codeine ?

I’ve found heat helped my hands but that’s about all I’ve got lol!

Many thanks
