I just recorded 50-80km walks in every major city in my country

So I started a project at the start of the year of having a recorded walk in every major city in Australia first starting with walking the distance of the Sydney, the city I live in

I have been doing long distance walking for about two years now and basically know Sydney like the back of my hand now so now I am off flying out to the other cities in order to explore them thoroughly

I think next up will be getting walks done in all of the capital cities

I just walked from Ipswich to the CBD

So I caught the first train out from Roma Street station to Ipswich Station and walked to the starting point around Bunnings West Ipswich

This is my first recorded walk in Brisbane but my third walk having walked to the CBD from Redcliffe and Loganlea. I was originally going to start around 3am by booking a hotel room in Ipswich and then spending the second night in the CBD but I decided against it after realising that the trains could get me there at an acceptable time

I have only visited Ipswich once before so doing this walk gave me a better appreciation of the area. I wouldn't mind doing some shorter walks involving Ipswich as the destination

I just walked from Campbelltown to Parramatta

So I originally wanted to post a flyover as I usually do but for whatever reason the device I use to record shat itself and a glitching GPS ended up hallucinating a fair amount of distance. I did calculate the distance I actually did which came down to around 57km

I started this walk at Macarthur Square at around 6-7am and reached Liverpool around dinner time after a day of exploring the south west. I have done this walk before in parts first doing Liverpool to Campbelltown a couple of years ago and soon after doing Liverpool to Parramatta but this is the first time doing it in one go

It's funny seeing that even with the extra 40km it still only beats my record of 86km from the base of the Blue Mountains to Bondi Beach by just 8km

I finished my rail map for my 12 city megalopolis

So each of these 12 metro areas are about an estimated 1000-2000km each on average and I estimate that the population should be around somewhere from 40-60 million with about 80 percent of the country's population inhabiting this mega region. The northern half of the bay on average is wealthier than the south half

The country inhabits the entire coast of the south western portion of it's continent and was a colonial project of this equivalent to Britain/USA with each colonial power wanting access to the bay. An apocalyptic level war broke out with all the colonial powers and this area was one of the few areas unaffected and for a while there were just 12 main settlements trading with each other. As society got back in its feet this region became a global superpower

While this probably more like 100 cities/towns in a trench coat legal speaking it's 12 cities each some with up to 30 boroughs all varying in size. They're all modelled after Australian cities since that's what I am most familiar with but some take inspiration from Canadian/North American cities which goes as follows: (the .5's mean they are in the same metro area as there respective cities but I felt they were notable enough

  1. Los Angeles without the car dependency and if LA kept their trains/trams

  2. Montreal with touches of Sydney's inner west

  3. Functionally a combination of Manhattan/Tokyo but visually Sydney

3.5 A scaled up version of Chatswood/Box Hill (which are both high density Asian hubs of Sydney/Melbourne)

  1. Melbourne with touches of Toronto

  2. A combination of Brisbane/Perth

5.5. A very new gentrified hub like Edmondson Park in Sydney

  1. A combination of Newcastle/Fremantle with a lot of the skyline being new apartments

6.5 Basically Wollongong

  1. The national capital so basically if Canberra had trains

  2. Basically Parramatta but with a better skyline

  3. Edmonton with touches of Sydney's Hills Shire

  4. A scaled up version of Gosford

  5. Functionally Detroit but visually a scaled up version Dandenong (which is a low-middle income hub in Melbourne's metro area)

  6. Basically Adelaide

These might not end up being perfect analogies but I intend to use that to help visualise what these cities are like

How is life in the Mornington Peninsula?

This is just about the only part of Melbourne I have not explored yet solely because there're no train trains there but I am curious to know what the area is like

I almost broke my record but came 5km short

So this is my second time doing an 80+ km walk. I booked this trip on impulse about a week ago since I didn't want to wait a month like I did with my walk from Penrith to Bondi

I got up at 11pm the night prior on barely 3 hours of sleep and caught the second last train out to East Pakenham starting this walk at 1:10am

My body did a lot better this time round and just felt funny for the last 10-20km. The pain set in immediately once I sat down in the Docklands though 😭

I really liked the stretch from Fountain Gate to Dandenong and getting to see Dandenong's skyline from a distance but my favourite part had to be the stretch from Oakleigh to the CBD. I had to include the Yarra River trail again as I had done it from South Yarra about a year ago when walking from Ringwood to the CBD

My body did a lot better this time round and just felt funny for the last 10-20km. The pain set in immediately once I sat down I. the Docklands though 😭

How is walking in Darwin?

So I (27F, 5'10) do long distance walking in cities all over the country but particularly in the greater Sydney area where I live and am looking to do some walks in Darwin since I have never been before. I have heard some things about the safety of certain parts though and it's unlike a lot other rough parts of the country. The walk I want to do starts at Lee Point and heads south and remains relatively coastal

Should I be fine with the route I have picked? Are there no go areas, even in broad daylight? Or should I be fine so long as I keep to myself?

I just did my first 50km walk in my home city

Start time: 6:48

Finish Time: 9:27

Shoes: Sketchers Go Walkers 8

This is my first walk in my home city. I caught the first train out from Adelaide Station and set off from Munno Para at 6:48am. I was going to start at Gawler initially but decided against it when I learnt that the trains start up fairly late

I was told that Elizabeth (where the walk starts would be very rough and that I would feel unsafe but when I got here felt nowhere near as unsafe as it was made out to be and a lot of the people there were really nice.

Roughly the last third of the walk (Mawson Lakes to the CBD) was where the nostalgia went into overdrive as that's the area I had most experience with especially the stretch in Mawson Lakes since that's where I grew up

I was surprised to learn that they hear about Western Sydney a lot more then they hear about Elizabeth. The Elizabeth shops were extremely similar to Westfield Mt Druitt in Sydney in fact the entire area seemed reminiscent of greater Western Sydney
