MCM Comic Con Excel veteran here to help you out and answer your questions!

So I've been going to MCM in London pretty much every year since I turned 18, both as a regular attendee and as an exhibitor with RPG Haven.

In the run up to con, there are always a lot of people on here asking questions and looking for advice, so I've decided that I'll be on here answering your questions and giving general advice!

The moderator of this sub r/shinnon has posted a big Comic Con guide but I'm happy to go into further details about any questions for first time con attendees or anyone that might be looking for more activities to do at con that don't just involve shopping.

All the advice about Comic Con that you might find online is useful but often pretty generic. They'll tell you to wear comfortable shoes or to stay hydrated but I'll be able to give you advice specific to MCM in the Excel Centre such as how to get into the After Party or where to rent a power bank for your phone at the Excel Centre for as little as £2.

Give me your questions and I'll do my absolute best to answer them!

How to support a friend who's given birth.

I have a colleague from work (Sarah) who is due to give birth later this month. I do consider her a friend, we are similar in age, have a lot in common. I am not a mother myself but I know well enough about the struggles that come in the first few months of parenthood.

Because of work overlapping, I've never actually "upgraded" our friendship from a workplace friendship to an out of work friendship, you know? I've never hung out with her outside of work and I've never been to her house or anything yet.

She doesn't really have anyone around to support her except her boyfriend and his parents. She doesn't have any close friends and her family lives abroad. I'm sure her boyfriend and his parents are nice people but I'm also sure she needs some female company whilst she goes through one of the toughest times of her life.

I have a lot of free time and I want to be active in supporting her. I'm happy to drop in and watch the baby whilst she has a nap or do a few loads of laundry, things like that.

Before Sarah left work I told her to text me if she needs anything, but I know for certain that she won't reach out to me unless I make an active effort to do so first. She's the sort of person that struggles to accept help from others but I want to make it clear to her that I am willing and eager to help in any way I can.

What should I do? I don't just want to send her a text and say "give me your address I'm coming to your house now".

Lunchbox canteen?

I had a dream where I went into a large university canteen. Instead of the staff cooking food for you, everyone was required to leave their own personal lunchbox at the front on a table so you could pick and choose what you wanted. It cost £7.19 to buy someone else's lunchbox and inside mine was a bruised banana and ham sandwich.

Finance platform for gen z

I want to start an online financial platform that teaches gen z how to budget, save, invest and do more with their money.

I want to have a blog, a newsletter and a few short form social media posts. Instead of other finance platforms that use a lot of technical language, I want it to be accessible for beginners and to be inclusive to everyone.

I'm doing it all myself at the moment. I'm great at writing and making content, but branding is definitely one of my weaknesses.

I've found that there's a fine line between building a brand that is approachable and friendly but also doesn't feel too childish or immature. For a topic as serious as personal finance I would like my brand to have a minimalist and professional flair without coming off as too intimidating for beginners.

I haven't even chosen a name for my brand because nothing fits quite right.

For the colour scheme, I'm thinking about using purple and yellow. Purple is fun and signifies wealth and yellow is another colour usually associated with wealth and abundance.

I'm hoping to get some feedback from this sub on my ideas, maybe a nudge in the right direction of where I can find resources to build my brand further.

Thank you!

Is 75°C not hot enough???

A woman came in earlier today and ordered demanded an extra hot latte with no foam !!!!

I steamed the milk until it screamed !!!!

I served it to her and before she even touched the cup she asked me to make it hotter !!!!!

I said no !!!!

I pulled out my milk thermometer, put it in her cup and said we aren't allowed to steam milk above 75°C !!!

She took the cup and left !!!! Good riddance !!!!

Getting into the after-party

The after party begins at 6.45pm, when should me and my friends start queuing up if we want to get in?

There's about 4 of us and none of us have managed to get a reservation 😭

I was thinking we should start queuing at 6.30pm but the party seems really popular so maybe even earlier ?

The descriptions of the library in the first chapter are pretty detailed. Each floor has food kiosks and the rooms contain the beds and showers.

We know that there are stairwells, because they are mentioned a couple of times in the later chapters. The people are able to travel up and down the stairs to see each other.

But where are they physically located? I've read the book twice now and I can't find where it says where they are located.

I'm assuming that there has to be multiple stairwells per floor, maybe as frequently occuring as the rooms?

I know their location isn't important, and they don't provide anyone a faster way down to the bottom either. I am just confused why they were never mentioned in the beginning.
