Finally moved on from Crocs n Socks

It's probably been 2 decades since I've worn some all stars, but it felt like the perfect time for a mini midlife crisis.

Y1 obtained

I saw the Y2 was coming out, but I’m personally more a fan of no side buttons so I went with the Y1. Got rockbox and a couple dozen albums on it and love it a lot. it just barely fits in my phone mount and get plenty loud over aux. Definitely my new daily driver after getting so tired of the button navigation of the snowsky mini

Performance on android 17 seems pretty good

I've been messing around with a few games/apps that were running real bad on 16. one thing I've noticed is emulating 3DS games is now actually working. Pokemon X/Y is running at a solid 30fps now while it used to barely maintain 15fps before. I've also not had any of the visual glitches I was having before so all-round, it's been a good update.

HSK 1 is done. Moving on to level 2!

Since I have both SuperChinese and SuperTest, once I finished Level 1 in SuperChinese, I decided to take some of the mock tests this morning and am consistently getting 100% which is doing wonders for my confidence. I still don’t think I’m anywhere near that level in terms of speaking, but my reading and listening are both confirmed good now.

Day 15 reflecting

Just felt like making a sort of half way mark post for my first 30 days using the app. I originally started using SuperTest but switched to SuperChinese 15 days ago as Im not at all interested in taking the HSK test. I’m entirely working toward being  chat online and watch dramas. I’m hoping there will be a possible benefit in my job, but so far they’ve been more focused on Korean partners, so for now it’s just my personal goals.

the first thing I will say is that this app has been the absolute best for combining speaking and reading into the course. The fact that every new vocab word and grammar phrase has that microphone button that instantly plays back my own voice is so amazingly helpful in making sure I’m using the right tones. I’ll frequently catch myself messing up tones on longer sentences, so being able to just sit there recording myself over and over until I break whatever problem was in my brain is so useful.

I’m also loving how you jump back into any of the scenarios in the “textbook” part of the profile. When I’m done with reviews and my daily lesson, I’ll often just go in there and  read some of them and make sure I’m actually able to understand them and I’m not just mentally translating hanzi into English like I used to when I was using Duolingo.

I was going to add a “what I wish the app had” section here, but it’s only very minor things like more in-depth grammar explanations which are already available for free on the Chinese grammar wiki, so not something very important right now.

I personally have a 32 day streak, but that doesn’t really matter to me when my actual goal is figuring out this language and internalizing the particle use word order.
