My partner went to stay with our baby in Malaysia (with her parents) for a while but for the last 1 month the AQI in Malaysia has been crazy with it being around 150-200 constantly. I didn't realize how bad it is until I also reached Malaysia (and immediately my asthma flared up, which never happened to me in the US). We are now worried how badly it would have affected the baby over the last month. Baby was mostly indoors but they didn't have any air purifiers in the house. The baby coughs and sneezes now and then (but had those back in the US as well, but feel the frequency is more here). We are leaving in a week but feel we have done some irreparable damage already and feeling guilty about it.

I have been outside Chennai for 10 years now with some trips to home now and then. But spent all my time at home with friends and family and didn't roam much alone. Now I have some time alone and want to try doing something solo.

Back in the day I used to travel in local trains a lot. Now I'm planning to just go from 1 end to another and back for a day just to relive that. I'm looking for more suggestions like this one. I wanted to go to the theosophical society but seems like it's closed to the public now, which sucks.

Dropping off family, they will need some help at least till the check in counter. Is the visitor pass program still available? If yes, how/where to get it?

My dad has a below knee amputation. It's tough to take him to any prosthetic company for training as our apartment doesn't have an elevator and it's difficult for us to get him out for every training. Is there any company which can help with this by coming home to train?

Most rooms are in the upper floor(s) and have carpet in them. Obviously the same people are going to spend time in the lower floor living room and kitchen etc. So there should be no issues of sound from above. Why then does almost all townhomes have carpet?

I have dust allergies which are worse in carpeted homes. And I can afford only townhomes in my desired areas, no chance of SFH. But the carpet is a major hindrance.

I got laid off and I'm going to receive about 4 months worth of salary. I already have 6 months emergency fund. Should I lump sum this amount or just play it safe with money market or USFR till I get a new job?

Hi, I have been working as Software Engineer at a mid level tech company (~4000 employees) in the bay area, CA. I was informed of my role being terminated with last day of access to work on April 29th, 2026 and separation day of May 10th, 2026 (because I'm currently on parental leave)

We had a baby on April 13th, 2026. I informed my manager and skip manager through slack around January that I will be expecting to take paternity leave around April which was the due date. Now as part of a minor layoffs (10% of my org, ~100 people) due to performance issues (“low performance” as mentioned in the termination call) they have terminated my employment. I feel since I told them that around early January, they have started targeting me. In the following performance review of 2025 which happened in February 2026, they had purposely given me an average rating but still that was an average rating and there were no warnings prior to that of any actual low performance. Now we have 12 weeks parental leave policy at my company (along with state benefits), 2 weeks into mine, they have terminated me saying I can’t apply for more weeks than the current approved 4 weeks parental leave. I was considering whether to take the remaining 8 weeks now based on the baby's situation. But now I lose that 8 weeks of paternity leave benefits. They have offered the general severance plan of our company which is 8 weeks base salary + 1 week salary/per year of employment which is common for everyone.

Please let me know if there is any case that can be made for the above.

I know I shouldn't technically have a normal savings account and only should have nre/nro accounts. But this account has been open for a long time and I forgot about it. I have never reported interest income from this account in India or US. According to this account, I'm an Indian resident with India address. Will this get reported to US IRS through FATCA based on my PAN / Aadhar card?
