To Buy or Not To Buy?

This is one of my best friends’ 1992 S10. It has 253k on the odometer. I told him I’m looking for a work/beater truck and he told me I could buy it off him if I wanted. He’s asking 3k for it, and has put a good bit of work into it. He’s redone a lot of the wiring, new weather seals, new head gasket and associated work, new motor and transmission mounts and has redone the ventilation system as well as other odds and ends. The only things that I’m slightly hesitant about are that the 1) the engine has a shake to it and 2) there’s some rust bubbling through in the corner of the drivers side door area. He said that the engine has new spark plugs and that it may just need new wires to fix the shake if it’s missing like he suspects it may be. As for the rust, I wouldn’t want it to get really any worse than it is now. Is there a good way to stop it without getting too involved in the process? Thanks for any tips/tricks, I’ve never owned an older vehicle like this before!

My Marketplace Find

Yesterday I got this really nice, clean 1992 Johnson 3hp off Marketplace. It seems to pump water well, starts on first pull, and idles nice and low. It should make a good fit for my Lowe 1040 Jon!

House visit from the ol’ Doc!

Sorry for the somewhat crappy recording, I was in shock and trying to get my phone out in time. Spent the first few seconds just taking it in and enjoying the fly-over!

Test Stress

Hey guys, I’m currently a trainee at a major aircraft manufacturer learning both UTT and ET. I’ve been at it for a few months and my Level 2’s say I’m coming along really well, but all I can think about lately are the tests I’m going to be taking next year to get certified in both methods as a Level 2 at the end of my 800 hrs of OJT. The Level 3’s I have been told are notorious for making really hard tests, and that a lot people fail at least one portion of the exam the first attempt. I feel that I’m a good test taker, but the weight of knowing my future job hangs on passing these tests is giving me major anxiety. Can anyone here give any tips or advice on how I should approach this problem? TIA

First time Ranger shopper with a few questions!

Hi all! Looking at potentially getting my first Ranger as a work truck to help preserve my 2015 Silverado that’s in great shape. This one I went to look at today is a 2000 2WD 3.0L Auto Transmission with 153k miles. I was hoping you all here could look at some of the photos I took and see what your thoughts were on it. The guy at the lot said they are asking $3800 but “have some wiggle room”. I’m thinking about taking it for a test drive tomorrow. Any input on what a fair offer would be? Are they close to the mark @ $3800?

The only glaring issue I’ve noticed is that when running, the truck ‘putters’ along and has a throaty sound similar to an old muscle car for a lack of a better term. They said it’s got an exhaust leak somewhere that’s causing it. Is this of any real concern, or is that just a minor issue? Any input is greatly appreciated!
