New boiler (relocated) and unvented cylinder install.
This sub might not get the traffic of r/cableporn but I couldn’t resist posting our recent upgrade. I think the installer probably had a wet dream (pun intended) getting to install on a clean accessible wall and not in some cramped cupboard. Anyway, it looks like plumbingporn to me!
Does anybody like the always on by default bingy bongy driver assistance warnings?
Speed crept up to 32 in a 30? BONG BONG BONG.
Lane Assist (for those that love the feeling of their car tugging into oncoming traffic) gets confused on a poorly marked road. BONG BONG.
Hand briefly on the top middle of the wheel? BONG BONG FULL FACE NOT VISIBLE.
Reversing out of a parking space, with an obstacle close to the front of the vehicle not in the direction of travel? BONG BONG.
I can understand that some special drivers might like these features, but why, for the love of god why, can I not save my personal settings so I don’t have to turn it off every vehicle start? It’s maddening and genuinely turns an otherwise decent car into a pile of junk.
How’s this for a cheap 2 bay TrueNAS
How’s this for a cheap 2 bay TrueNAS
I recently upgraded my ancient synology ds214 as its abysmal CPU and RAM were no longer serving my needs.
I’m a cheap basterd so I decided to do it as cheaply as possible.
1 x used HP Elitedesk 800 g5 SFF i5 9500 8GB RAM - £115
2 x 4TB spinners in raid 1 (free from old synology)
1 x Intel ARC A310 - £130
1 x 128GB nvme (partitioned OS install and unsupported app/configs pool) - £30
1 x 120mmx15mm fan, cut into side of chassis for improved exhaust - £5
2 SATA cables - £4
All in, £284. All singing all dancing all transcoding.
Meanwhile Synology want £430 for a DS224+ with a Celeron and 2GB RAM?
This thing reminds me of winamp, in that it kicks the lama’s ass. Might chuck in another 8 RAM eventually. No I don’t need more bays.
Do B&Q just not care any more?
Why is it every time I go the thing I want is out of stock (a white dimmer switch apparently is hot stuff) and the shelves look like the Tasmanian devil has ripped through after a severe hurricane. I get that customers can be disruptive and messy, but literally ever b and q I have been in for the past couple of years looks like this. Zero attempt to maintain the shelves or stock. Zero facing out. Just utter chaos. It’s madness.
Why is stealth amazing
Everything about stealth is amazing and if they ever close it because the hydraulic launch is outdated, I will cry. We should make a gofundme just so they keep it open.
The queue is amazing, especially when you go under the track with the almighty clatter as the train launches overhead.
The station is amazing, as you get to watch the train… disappear. It’s there one moment full of people, then whoosh, it’s gone behind the control booth. Anticipation builds and you’re not even on it yet. Most coasters don’t have this extreme visual at launch.
The launch is amazing. The slight hesitation, the extreme acceleration.
The ramp up, as gravity slows the cart, cresting the top and I have a massive grin on my face every time. I can’t explain it. Hyperia is awesome, but nothing makes me Smile like Stealth.
The descent and the brakes, short but sweet. Elation.
The sensible loop back to queue again for another go. (Unlike swarm, where the long queue walk makes a second ride tedious)
Please Don’t Close Stealth.

Last week in the heat I spent a fun afternoon modifying my Delonghi ex120 to pull air into the condenser loop from outside, which vastly improves the efficiency of the unit by stopping it creating a negative pressure in the room. I know I know nothing is better than a proper split system, but I have this unit, and I don’t have a spare £1500 right now for a summer comfort upgrade.
I haven’t done anything particular complicated here and most of the materials (ply, duct tape) I already had laying around. Duct is cheap. Making a box to attach to the condenser intake was fun. The exhaust side has a baffle on the outside it to direct the air so it doesn’t pull in hot air it’s exhausted.
Works great. Still noisy in the room but much better than it was.
