Suspicious business at Katoomba Airfield

Suspicious business at Katoomba Airfield

Last year I went to Katoomba Airfield to have a poke around and just check out the place. There was absolutely nothing there, everything was open and unlocked, no security cameras, nothing.

Today I decided to check the place out again, see what (if anything) had changed since my last visit.

The answer was lots.

The dumped drug-runners plane, for starts, is now completely trashed and covered in graffiti, beyond repair.

The hangars are also coated in tags. It’s to be expected with any place that’s abandoned for this long, I know, but it’s a lot of graffiti in just one year.

But a few things in particular threw me off substantially.
First: the third hangar was locked up, with two trailers out the front of it, and it had signs for an insulation company on the doors of it.

Mind you, the signs don’t face the road either. They face the other two hangars, which makes them impossible to see if you’re not on the airfield grounds.

Second: there were security signs and cameras. What really confused me was the fact there were cameras on all the structures in the airfield, not just the one with the signs on it.

And third: there were several strange items in the first hangar that were not there the first time I went. There’s tyres, a broken fish tank, a small stool, and several other small odd items strewn about.

I had been under the impression that YKAT is still Council property, and as such no private ventures could take place on the property.

So has something changed and this is a legitimate business, or did I just happen upon some sort of sketchy front for something worse?

What is this weirdly proportioned little blue thing I found on street view in sydney?

Old imagery, seen parked outside of an abandoned house. No idea what the car is, can't get any other angles of it EDIT: Thanks lads, it's a Nissan Prairie

Anybody do anything hoon-adjacent with your Outlanders?

I'm curious how many people actually drive these cars hard, especially the 2021+ models. Does anyone here rally theirs, skid them, or really do anything particularly rambunctious with them, and if so what have you discovered about it in the process?

(Sorry for poor English, I'm tired rn)

I need help fixing my e-waste. Not charging + grip has come off

(Copied and edited slightly from my Facebook post in a help group, putting here as well for additional tips)

Need help figuring out how to fix this stupid thing. It's a NAVIG[8]R Dash 15, bought it for half price from an appliance store. And it has issues.

First things first the dumb thing isn't charging. Haven't ridden it once mind you, and it just does not charge. I plug it in and the light instantly goes green (it's supposed to go red while charging right?). Stuff like the horn and light work while it's plugged in but the second it comes off the charger it just doesn't do anything. Tried several different hours and had it on charge for a while and it just doesn't work

Second, the grip with the throttle controller, speedo and power switch, it's just slid off the bloody handlebar and I've got no idea why or how to get it to stay back on

Any help would be appreciated but I can't spend any more than $180 AUD because that's how much I paid for it and if any fixes cost more than that I'm probably just gonna use it as a kick scooter and spend a day abusing the hell out of it on a dirt trail until it's unrideable because it's doing my head in

Thanks

What is this car I found on Google Earth?

Location is Australia for extra context. I'm fairly sure the '08 pic and the satellite image of the car at the very back of the driveway in '25 are the same car but I could be wrong. For size comp with the satellite imagery, the middle car is a VT Commodore and the bottom car is a TE Magna. Thanks

Watched a video on the Steven MacKrell disappearance case and I'm wondering how nobody throughout the case has identified the silver car that followed him out of the gas station. What is this? I thought initially that it could be a 7th-gen Chevy Malibu but I'm not confident in that guess

Anybody know what the deal is with the high number of empty/abandoned shops and buildings in Katoomba?

Been shopping and walking around in Katoomba for a while and I'm genuinely wondering why there's so many empty and decrepit places around, especially on Katoomba St and Lurline St?

Like, there's way more than I've seen in any other shopping district, even Blacktown or Parramatta. Even YKAT's been largely abandoned other than emergency landings.

My guess is high rent and business owners not being able to keep up with it, but is that it or is there more to it?

Thanks

Gang I've got a conspiracy theory

Gang I've got a conspiracy theory

So we've all heard of the Ferrari Luce by now right?

So damn expensive and it looks ugly as hell, plus it's an EV which violates Ferrari's whole philosophy of screamin V8s and V10s and V6s I guess

And it's probably been the most dogged on car of the whole decade so far

But

Listen

You know another manufacturer that wants to stick to internal combustion for as long as possible?

Another manufacturer that more than likely made their first fully electric production car total cheeks on purpose so that they could point to it and go "look, this thing failed, we can't make good EVs!" and never have to touch the type again?

That's right, I'm comparing the Ferrari Luce to the Toyota bZ4X

My theory is that Ferrari's been pressured by somebody (probably the EU knowing they love schmoozing the environment in exchange for absolutely ruining cars throughout Europe and in turn the world) into making an EV and so to shut them up Ferrari took a page out of Toyota's playbook and made their EV complete buns so they didn't have to make another one

If nothing else it would explain why they haven't sued anybody for the memes yet

Anyway conspiracy over, have the day you deserve :)

this a good first car to learn in?

Thinking of buying this Festiva off Marketplace, I've negotiated with the guy selling it and I've managed to get him to agree to $700 for it but I wanted final opinions before I actually set my foot down on anything.

'97 Festiva 5-door, got an automatic and just 140,000km on the odometer. However it's unregistered and the hood is obviously damaged, which the seller said was from a hit-and-run. Fortunately (for once) the other car was a lifted Ranger and only damaged the hood and left headlight guard. Obviously I'd need to get a UVP to get it back home and it'd need a few fixes and a basic service, but it runs and drives smoothly and for $700 in this economy that's pretty good. I need a small car that's decent on fuel to complete my L's and use as a daily on my P's, but I'm also looking to thrash it a bit, possibly practice rallying with it. Should I go buy it?

Steam isn't launching

Installed Steam today, it goes through the update bit and the package installation and then just doesn't open. It's not running in the background (checked with Task Manager), it's just saying it's updating Steam and then it doesn't do anything with it. Help?
