Physically can’t qualify to international/ high level national olympiads/ ISEF

I’m an expat living outside of my home country, so I don’t hold citizenship of the country I reside in. This disqualifies me from national Olympiads and selection camps for the country I live in, as well as disqualifying me from national Olympiads in my home country due to me not living there. I also can’t qualify for ISEF despite having a really strong maths research paper I wrote.

I obviously can’t do things like USAMO or USAPhO, so the only things that I’m able to do are qualify for AIME with a high score, and get a strong USACO score since it’s open to everyone.

Should I assume AOs know this (most applicants in this country are expats in the same situation as me) or should I explicitly mention this somewhere in my application, and will it hinder my chances.

Thank you!

Athlete recruitment for internationals

Obviously the path to being accepted as an international student is absolutely brutal, but what if you were an athlete that ‘hit the requirements’ to be recruited by the coach. Does that mean the person wouldn’t have to be an IMO medal winner or whatever to have a chance? Assuming grades are near perfect along with some decent ECs and awards, nothing out of the ordinary for a domestic MIT admit.

Thanks!

Does Post-activation performance enhancement (PAPE) work in sprinting?

I read an article recently that mentioned that a heavy squat/pull (around 80% of bw) within 8 minutes before a race can improve sprint performance by approximately 2%.

If true, then it could be pretty groundbreaking, as a 2% improvement in the 100m can cause your time to decrease by over 0.2 seconds almost immediately, however, I haven’t really heard anyone talk about it before, so I’m a bit curious to whether it actually works, or if someone here has maybe tried it.

Here’s a link to the study

How to do recovery

Assuming I sprint 3 days a week, how often should I do recovery days, and what should a recovery day include. I have access to a foam roller, a massage gun, a swimming pool, and resistance bands.
Thanks!

What do admissions at top unis think of national/international level sporting achievements (for international students)

Obviously paired with near perfect grades and SAT, and some decent (not crazy) extracurriculars. Not asking about scholarships or hitting recruitment times in track, but just how much it could help the admissions process if listed with awards/ECs.

Programme to help me go sub 11s in the 100m

I'm 17 years old, and I'm in a bit of an unusual predicament. When I was 14, I ran 11.6 and 11.5 and was one of the fastest in the state, and basically for the year and a half following those two races, I struggled to go under 11.9, sometimes running 12 seconds. This was really lowered my morale and I kinda lost my love for the sport, and along with other problems, caused me to quit.

Its been 8 months since I quit and I want to get back into track, and I'm incredibly motivated. Do any fast runners have a training programme that worked for them personally that they could maybe help with. I would really appreciate one complete with plyos, lifts, and sprints. Thanks!

How am I meant to afford the outrageous international student tuition fees??

I go to a British private school overseas, so I do gcses and a levels and all that, but how tf am I meant to afford 60k pounds in tuition fees (+20k in living expenses) every single year required for oxbridge and some ivies. I consider myself pretty well off (household income is approx. £200k per year) yet even then the fees are completely out of reach and unrealistic.

How can I get into robotics?

Hi everyone, I'm a junior in highschool and I'm planning on doing some kind of engineering in uni. I've always been interested in trying to do robotics from a hobby point of view, but obviously it's pretty useful as skill for uni applications and even down the line in my job.

However, I've found the whole thing kinda overwhelming and even a bit intimidating, such as where to start, what things to buy, when to buy, all that kinda stuff. I'll greatly appreciate it if anyone can help me out.

Thanks!

Why doesn’t Ronaldo try curling the ball in free kicks

He keeps trying to hit the knuckleball/powershot free kick which clearly doesn’t work, maybe because he’s old or the balls changed or whatever but it doesn’t matter, because I don’t think I’ve ever seen him miss a free kick where he curls it instead of thundercunting it. A prime example is the free kick against Spain in the 2018 World Cup.

An Olympic fencer vs a Medieval knight

Fight takes place in an open, flat field surrounded by an impenetrable wall of trees.
Both fighters have a classic medieval sword which would be standard for the time.
The fight is over when one of them is dead.

Round 1: An Olympic fencer vs a newly recruited knight.

Round 2: An Olympic fencer vs an average, fairly experienced knight

Round 3: An Olympic fencer vs the kingdoms most skilled knight, handpicked by the king.

▲ 3 r/AMA

I was born and raised in Dubai, and went to a pretty high end private school there. AMA

Not much else to say other than what was mentioned in the title, but yeah, I was not personally ‘rich’ but we were pretty well off (maybe between middle and upper class).

Doing this because I know a lot of people tend to dislike dubai and might have some questions for someone who spent their entire childhood there.

Here’s why the pen call and the disallowed goal call were correct

I agree some of the calls were against Egypt, but the important ones like the ‘pen’ call and the disallowed goal calls were all correct.

Would you rather face France or Paraguay in the quarters.

This is probably an unpopular opinion but I’d rather we face France. We’ve historically struggled against teams who are ‘weaker’ than us, and we usually do well against stronger sides. Also, if France knock us out, at least we would’ve been knocked out by the favorites.
