What to eat?

I have slow motility slow transit chronic constipation , I also have SIBO methane. My doctors claim that they don’t know what’s causing my slow transit constipation. I know what’s causing it , it’s
My psych meds. This has been an issue for me for the last 4 years. And so I’ve come to the decision with my psychiatrist to come off my medication in hopes that my slow transit constipation improves and or resolves. In the mean time, what do I eat? I tried taking out all fiber and carbs , that back fired . If I eat fiber I’m extremely bloated and have terrible gas pains that gas x doesn’t even touch. I’m
Afraid if I don’t eat fiber , I won’t have regular bowel movements. So what do you guys eat? I have tried low fodmap for months, no change. I’m at a loss.
I take motegriyy 2mg and ibsrela twice a day

Need advice

Last week I posted about my constipation issues. I went to urgent care and it turns out I had an upper colon blockage. Urgent care ordered a bottle of magnesium citrate and colace, I took both. Went to bed , nothing happened. I called my gastroenterologist the next day she told me to use a suppository, which got things moving for four hours and then stopped. I was still extremely bloated and burping up food. So I went to the ER , they did a repeat xray and the xray showed a large amount of stool retained in my colon. So they sent me home, told me to do a MiraLAX clean out. The problem is I have slow transit constipation, possible SIBO which i was diagnosed with three years ago that I took rifaximin for and it did nothing. I am bloated 24/7 . I get so full and at the end of the day I feel like food is just rotting inside my stomach. I burp all day long but rarely pass gas. I followed up with my gastroenterologist she ordered an anal manometry for me. I asked for a deeper dive into motility testing and she said that was what the manometry is for? I feel like I need to see a different provider. I take motegrity and ibsrela everyday and I’m still backed up constantly . I want motility testing so bad. What do I do?! I’ve been dealing with this slow transit constipation and 24/7 bloating for five years now I had a colonoscopy four years ago , SIBO testing 3 years ago and that’s it. I feel like my doctor doesn’t want to help me and we are not getting to the root cause.

Blockage, need advice

I posted a couple days ago that I was upset about not having a bm for three days. I was on vacation at the time and figured it was just my body not being adapted to the vacation and routine was thrown off. Well yesterday we got home from vacation and I still had not had a bowel movement. I decided to go to the gym anyway hoping that would stir things up, nothing. I decided to go to urgent care bc I am so bloated , I am not in pain , I’m not nauseous but very bloated. There’s also a possibility of untreated SIBO ( I’ve had methane in the past). I went to urgent care, had an X-ray which showed a blockage in my upper colon. They prescribed a bottle of magnesium citrate and colace. I took both at 8pm last night. I had no relief last night. So I called my doctor first thing this morning who recommended a suppository to hopefullly help the magnesium citrate work. I started having bowel movements between 9-12. I’m sorry for the tmi but most of it was brown/watery liquid and some soft stool and undigested food. I was expecting a lot based on my xray but I didn’t get that. I’m still extremely bloated and have not had any bowel movements since early this afternoon. I called my doctor again asking how I would know for sure if the blockage is gone, no response and the office is closed. I haven’t eaten since yesterday, I do feel hungry but when I eat I get so full. Should I go back to urgent care? FYI: I also take motegrity and ibsrela for slow transit constipation.

3 days

I haven’t pooped in 3 days and I’m freaking scared. I take motegrity and ibsrela daily. I’m on vacation and I know that disrupts the gut and what not, but I won’t be home until tomorrow afternoon so I have to suffer until then but I don’t know what to do, like what approach should I take? Miralax takes days , I need relief now. Slow transit Constipation has been a struggle for me for a long time. Recently, I tried taking control of the situation to see if I can fix my slow transit constipation through diet a lone. I eliminated sugar , grains, and gluten. This was a bad idea in more ways than one, I did this for forty days and it’s backfired tremendously. I am slowly reintroducing foods, but still struggle with hard stools. I typically have a bowel movement every other day- 3 days. I burp constantly, by the end of the day my stomach is HUGE and I feel like all that I’ve eaten in one day is just rotting in my stomach going no where. It’s so uncomfortable and I’m tired of living this way. If anyone has any suggestions for fast constipation relief please respond. I’m ready to do a colonoscopy prep at this point but I don’t know what that entails. Please be kind as I’m struggling right now and going through a lot in my personal life.

Diurnal mood variation

Is diurnal mood variation a part of being bipolar? I have experienced intense mood swings , literally 3 horrible days in a row followed by one or two good days and the cycle repeats itself. The pattern on bad days is waking up feeling doom and despair, extreme anxiety , melancholy, crying, restlessness. By the time 3 oclock comes around I feel the depression lift and the anxiety calm and I start to feel like my normal self by the end of the day smiling and laughing with my kids. However, the cycle repeats itself for a few days and like I said I get one or two days that are good days, no excessive energy or anything like that just feeling like my normal happy self. I do find I fear going to bed bc I never know who or what my mood will be the next day. Was wondering if any one else has experienced diurnal mood variation? The longest episode of this that I’ve ever had was 3 consecutive months.

Becoming animal based after carnivore

Hi today im 40 days into carnivore. At first carnivore was great until I hit about 21 days. Since then I’ve been struggling with electrolyte balance, terrible disrupted sleep, constipation that doesn’t get better no matter how much fat I eat. Anyways I feel like this carnivore diet is not for me. I started carnivore for optimal physical and mental health and also for healing of my gut. I am on psychiatric medications and also medications for slow transit chronic constipation. One day I’d like to come off these medications but I need to get healthy first physically and mentally. I’m very interested in an animal based diet but I don’t know how to transition from carnivore to animal based. Where do I begin with an animal based diet?

Prescription medications

I just want to state first and foremost I’ve already been given permission by my doctors to stop my medications to see how I do with out them. I’ve only been carnivore for four weeks. When does one know it’s a good time to stop their medications to see how they do without them? Also, is being on medications while carnivore a bad thing?
Full disclosure I was taking medications for slow transit constipation and also overactive bladder, I also take a medication for anxiety and bipolar disorder. I came off of one antipsychotic medication and I am
Down to one medication called Seroquel. I don’t see myself coming off the Seroquel for a while. I think I made a mistake by coming off my constipation/ overactive bladder medications too soon. Second guessing myself at this point and thinking I should reinstate my medications but I feel discouraged bc the whole point of me doing carnivore was to come off my medications, get healthy, and have optimal mental and physical health. This is weighing on me a lot.

What is the best source of fat?

I think I need a different fat source, not so much more fat. I’ve been eating a lot of butter and tallow, but my stools are still a tad too hard and it doesn’t seem to be helping my slow transit constipation. I went seven days without a bm and when I finally had one it was hard once again. So I’m thinking to cut out the butter and use more tallow. Also, I was able to get a ton of fat trimmings to snack on . So what is best for someone who has slow transit constipation? Butter? Tallow? Beef trimmings? I’m also reducing my protein and including more fattier meats in my diet.

How to gain weight

I’m a month in to carnivore, i started this WOE for better mental health, heal my gut, and to be healthy overall. I lost seven pounds this month. Im 5’ and today I weigh 107 lbs. I’m eating a lot. Yesterday I had 2307 calories, 177 g fat, and 163g protein. I know the protein is on the high end but I feel so hungry. I eat eggs, sardines, a lot of beef tallow and butter, ground beef, ribeyes, chuck roast, sirloin, tenderloin, salmon. I do not want to lose anymore weight, I’d like to gain. I exercise. 4 days a week I lift weights and 3 days a week I walk. Any suggestions? I’m apprehensive to try dairy because I have slow transit constipation which I’m hopefully going to heal through this way of eating. Thanks for listening 😊

Sleep issues update

Yesterday and a couple days ago I posted about not being able to sleep. Many of you gave me so many suggestions. Again I’m four weeks into carnivore. It turns out it was the electrolytes that was causing all of my problems. I started electrolytes three weeks ago bc I felt constantly thirsty. I had signs that the electrolytes were too much, but I interpreted them wrong and assumed I actually needed more electrolytes. I was using Redmonds relyte electrolytes for the last three weeks, one to three servings a day. I’m 5’ and 110 pounds, I’m such a dumb ass. Last week I ended up getting a terrible migraine ( my body was probably drowning in salt )And so that’s when I increased the electrolytes and that’s when my sleep became disrupted, I also had brain fog, and chest tightness. I saw my doctor yesterday, he didn’t do any tests. My blood pressure and pulse rate were normal and I wasn’t confused or acting weird or anything. Basically he told me to stop using the electrolytes, I can’t use any salt until tomorrow. The detox sucks, my last serving of electrolytes was yesterday morning. I’m exhausted and weak right now. My head felt extremely heavy last night. I feel like absolute garbage. Going to take it easy today the best that I can. Please learn from my stupid mistake. Be careful with the electrolytes. I hope to recover very soon 😞

Update on sleep issues

Hello again. I posted a few days ago about my sleep issues. I’m a month into carnivore. I fall asleep fine every night between 9-10 pm and sleep until 1-2 am every night .. after that I’m awake, tossing and turning for the rest of the night. I don’t believe this is a fat issue as I upped my fat significantly and the only effect that’s caused is diarrhea. I take magnesium, I was taking 200mg . I upped it to 300mg, no change. I take electrolytes, two servings a day. I was drinking too much water but I have since stopped that, and no I don’t wake up in the middle of the night to pee. Ive been trying to eat my final meal to a couple hours before bed time to see if that helps also. I’m just worried as I need to sleep 😞 I also take a medication called seroquel, before carnivore id easily sleep 8 hours with this medication. Idk what to do guys. I have not told my doctors about this diet change bc I know they are going to tell me my sleep issues are being caused by my diet . I don’t want to give up , so in my mind I just feel like don’t even mention it to my doctors. Idk maybe I’m being foolish and irresponsible by not telling my doctors. I want to push through bc im seeing so many positive things in my life since starting this way of eating. I don’t know what I’m looking for out of this post. I appreciate you guys always coming through though.

Trouble staying asleep

I’m 3 weeks into carnivore. I’m experiencing something new. The last two nights I wake up at 2 am and have a difficult time falling back asleep. The first night I felt wide awake, did not fall back asleep. Last night I woke up at two and finally fell back asleep around 4, then woke up at six for my children. I’m worried this is high cortisol , which I actually was hoping to overcome by eating this diet but I know I’m in the adaption phase still and from what I understand this can happen. I am drinking electrolytes because I was severely dehydrated and got a migraine a couple days ago and sipping water In between. I think I’m eating good. I’m 5’ and 110 lbs. I eat a good amount of fat and protein. Yesterday I had 138g of protein and 167g of fat, trying to gain weight. My last meal is usually around 5 pm. I take magnesium at night , 200mg. I also take a psych med called seroquel and that is supposed to knock me out for a good 8 hours. I exercise daily whether it’s walking outside for an hour or I go to the gym and lift weights , abs that kind of routine. I’m not sure what to do. I definitely need my sleep. Any advice?

Electrolyte question

I’m in the adaption phase, about 3 weeks in. I’ve been using redmonds relyte for electrolytes: one scoop in the morning during my workout and one scoop mid afternoon. Today I decided to postpone my morning electrolytes until after my work out ,about 12 noon, because my urine was clear and I felt hydrated. After my first meal today, about 1:30 pm, I got a massive headache. I drank some water and it’s a little better. Should I not decide my electrolytes needs based on urine color alone? Sorry if this is a dumb question. Tomorrow I will get back to a normal routine ( morning intra workout electrolytes, and then electrolytes again mid afternoon ).

Decreased urine flow and output

Hi everyone. I’ve been posting a lot here forgive me. I am 20 days carnivore. I noticed yesterday and today that my urine stream feels almost constricted like as if my urine stream has decreased. I’m also urinating way less, I peed a total of four times yesterday. However, my urine is clear. Any suggestions? Should I be concerned? Im not in pain at all. It’s just the difference in flow and amount of times im
Peeing that concerns me. Sorry I’m a bit anxious as my husband leaves for a business trip this Wednesday and I have three children that I need to take care of. I cannot afford to go into the hospital at this time.

Haven’t pooped in four days

Today marks day 19 of carnivore for me. I started carnivore to help my mental health in hopes of one day being able to come off my medications and also I need to heal my gut , I have chronic constipation and slow transit constipation which I take two medications for. I tried carnivore in the past and had to stop bc no matter what I tried I never pooped on carnivore and always had to rely on medication like magnesium citrate to poop or oxy powder. Anyways I was hoping this time would be different but I’m afraid I’m going to have issues again. My electrolytes are good , I’m not dehydrated ( had blood work done yesterday), I’m eating a good amount of fat about 70% of my diet is fat, I take magnesium glycinate 300mg a day, I workout daily. So I haven’t pooped in four days, my last bowel movement ( 4 days ago) was paradoxical constipation. Not sure what to do. Idk if I should be concerned. I am bloated but my constipation medications do make me bloated. When should I be concerned? I feel like a dumb ass. Like, why would I think this time would be different?! Feeling discouraged

Hard stools and diarrhea at the same time

So I’m 14 days into carnivore. Getting about sixty percent of fat in my diet. Today I had an episode of hard clumps of stool and diarrhea at the same time. I was having diarrhea in the beginning of my carnivore journey, and then even after that normal stools so idk what happened here. I eat eggs, sardines, burger Pattie’s, chuck roast, sirloin, ribeyes and ground beef. I use beef tallow and I also eat butter. I also have one cup of coffee in the morning with two tablespoons of heavy cream. I’m discouraged by the constipation but I know this is normal and just needs adjusting. I do take electrolytes a scoop and a half a day, I take magnesium glycinate 300mg at night, I try to limit my water intake, trying not to over hydrate but I only pee like six times a day and that seems odd. I salt my foods too. What am I doing wrong? I’m 5’ and 113 lbs

I do have chronic constipation which I’m trying to heal through this diet so to be fair I do take motegrity to keep bowel motility strong.

Carnivore diet while on psych meds

Im wondering if I need to dial back. I jumped into a carnivore diet a little over a week ago. I want to try this way of eating to help my mental health and also to heal my gut. Things have been ok overall. I’m enjoying this way of eating. I supplement with a pack of lmnt daily also magnesium at night , salt my food and drink a good amount of water. I am on psychiatric medications right now. I’m currently on seroquel. I didn’t check with my psychiatrist about starting a carnivore diet which I realize now probably wasn’t the smartest idea. My psychiatrist is out of the country until June so I can’t get in touch with him. I’m just scared bc seroquel elevates insulin levels and here I am jumping into this way of eating and I realize that this could potentially be dangerous. I don’t want anything harmful to happen to me. Should I introduce a small amount of carbs until I see my psychiatrist in June when he arrives back to the states? I guess I just want to make sure I’m safe. Thank you for your help

Bloating on carnivore

I’m extremely new to a high fat carnivore diet. I’m talking a week in. I started this diet to improve my mental health and gut health. I was previously on an old school body building diet and it wasn’t doing me any good. The first few days were awesome when I started carnivore! No more bloat! The last two days though I’ve noticed some serious bloat and I just feel unwell digestive wise. I was having liquid diarrhea initially but now my body is trying to form actual stool. I must mention that I suffer from ibs-c and slow motility thanks to my psych meds, which I still take regularly. I also take a medication called motegrity and ibsrela to help with my chronic constipation. I think these two medications mixed with the diet are causing me problems with digestion. I didn’t ease into this diet I simply jumped right in. I’m not sure what to do. I know if I call my gastroenterologist they will discourage me from participating in this diet . But I’d like to try . Feeling lost right now. Any suggestions?

Guys I’m in trouble

By the approval of my doctor I stopped taking my olanzapine 2.5mg with a taper. My psychiatrist told me to just stop at 2.5mg but I decided to go even a slower. So here I am 4 days since my last dose of olanzapine and I’m feeling the anxiety and mood swings and restlessness. I also within the last week developed a severe case of shingles ( I’m 38 years old female ). My primary care physician ordered prednisone for me. I questioned my primary care physician about the prednisone, he knows I’m withdrawing from olanzapine, I asked if the steroid would make my withdrawal symptoms worse. Basically he said the decision is up to me and if I decided not to take the prednisone to then see dermatology for my shingles. Now the other problem is my psychiatrist is out of the country until June. I called my psychiatrist office two days ago to talk to an on call psychiatrist and left a message, no one called me back! What am I supposed to do?! My pharmacist thinks going through withdrawals, shingles, and stress from both may be too overwhelming and said to reinstate the olanzapine. I just don’t know if I can restart the 2.5mg all at once which is why I want to speak to a psychiatrist. I’m fucking screwed. I am not getting straight answers.

Post follow up: I was finally able to speak to a on call psychiatrist, they definitely help me come up with a plan going forward, anxiety is down for now. Thank you all for trying to help me through this time.

Shingles?

I’m 38yo woman. I have bipolar disorder and I am being treated with seroquel 300mg and currently tapering off olanzapine 2.5mg , my psychiatrist is aware. I started tapering olanzapine 2.5mg a couple weeks ago, not cutting pills but taking 2.5mg once every three days and last night was my final dose. Three days ago I noticed a skin rash on my left arm, inner armpit area and as days have passed the skin rash has spread down the arm and feels like sunburn and lots of pustules. I also have a horrible head ache and left forearm pain. Could the withdrawal/taper of olanzapine cause this rash or shingles? Also, my psychiatrist is out of the country . He will not be returning to America until June. What do I do?
