Highlights from Willams Grove on June 26, 2026

A few shots from last night at Williams Grove Speedway, the first night of PA Speedweek. Flat light most of the evening, only a few minutes of any color, so kinda boring but we make do.

For those who may care, settings were:

1 — 24mm, 1/20, f/8, ISO 3200

2 — 24mm, 1/40, f/8, ISO 400

3 — 200mm, 1/640, f/3.5, ISO 6400

4 — 35mm, 1/10, f/11, ISO 400

5 — 28mm, 1/640, f/2.8, ISO 3200

Rainout tonight but eight more nights of racing across Central PA, here's hoping Mama Nature will cooperate. :-)

Osmo Action 5 Time Lapse - Looking for Insights

I'm looking for some ideas, input, and insights here ... I just started playing around with time lapses using my OA5, I want to integrate these into my work for motorsports clients ... so, while obviously not a great vantage point, I shot this from my apartment balcony over a 16+ hour period. It is SOOC in the video mode and was only cut/trimmed in Premiere Pro with a little audio added for fun.

I am impressed by the dynamic range the OA5 has, the colors are vibrant, and I can envision uses in my photography work as an add-on for clients. I've used my OA5's for BTS and other action videos but not doing time lapses, but I can see some valuable uses for these.

Please let me know if there are any specifics, I should be aware of or edit ideas or anything you can think of that could elevate my creating time lapses for a real-world client. Thanks!

Highlights from May 29 at Williams Grove Speedway

A half-dozen highlights from last night, May 29, at Williams Grove Speedway. I always have to toss a couple "artistic" shots in because I hate just taking snapshots, bores the hell outta me!

The Family Dewease Show at Williams Grove Speedway

History was made last night at Williams Grove Speedway as father, Lance, and son, Cole, took the features. Lance took the checkered in the 410 class and Cole scored his first victory in the 305's. Congrats to both, well done!

A Nod to Dirt Track, Central PA Style

We've got Inday Cars, F1, and NASCAR taking the spotlight today, so here's a quickie so not forget one of the most All-American forms of racing.

Bob Weikert Memorial at Port Royal Speedway

Sometimes Mother Nature can be a bitch. I can't make it to Port Royal this weekend, I have other shooting commitments, but I sure hope the weather forecast changes dramatically so everyone can enjoy themselves.

ICYMI - Nikon 4-Day Refurb Sale Is On

Nikon has launched a four-day refurbishment sale if you're looking for new gear. Mostly past gen camera versions (thought there are few current ones) but two items caught my attention - the first version of the 24-70mm f/2.8 is $1,300 USD which is a pretty good price for what is still a great piece of glass; and the SB-700 AF Speedlight for $180 USD looks good too. World of Outlaws at Williams Grove - Night Two

Two nights of great action saw the PA Posse and the Outlaws race to a tie. The Posse won night one with Kasey Kahne subbing for the injured Anthony Macri; the Outlaws came back last night with David Gravel going wire-to-wire.

Things, and Fat Asses, We Have No Control Over

There are just some things, and people, we have no control over when shooting an event. I'm down on one knee with my camera to my eye, knowing that any second David is going to pop up on his wing (and I knew he had his son with him) and I want the upward angle.

The gentleman to the left and the lady to the right, with their phones, see me and step to the side slightly so I can get my shot, thank you very much. The guy in the middle steps right in front of me so I politely ask, "sir, could you please move just a little to either side" and he replies "f**k you" then the guy with his point-n-shoot barges in and I'm screwed, so I stand up take my shots, and walk away shaking my head.
