Just wanted to share a few seascapes

I hope these are a good fit for here? Oceans are pretty much all I’m interested in painting these days… Cheers for checking them out!

And if you have any good ideas for the next one please let me know? I’m always looking for more inspiration. Thanks!

Acrylic vs Oil… can you tell which is which?

And which one do you prefer? … been playing around with both mediums lately - Still think I prefer working with acrylics but there is no denying oil has its advantages for certain things.. cheers for checking it out!

Lurtz painting

Posted this already but with a pretty stupid title. Was trying to pay tribute to Lawrence Makoare’s performance but I can see how that could have been taken the wrong way..

Feel like the Orcs/Uruk-Hai lost their aura from this point onwards but I really loved how menacing Lurtz was, so I thought I’d try to paint him! Was one of the films highlights for me - honestly was a bit scared it was going to be Aragorn’s end as well at the time (went in blind and actually still haven’t read the books - kinda hard to get motived to after watching the films multiple times… is it still worth it? I do read the genre a ton.. it’s been mostly Robin Hobb lately..)

Anyway, I usually do seascapes so this was a bit of a struggle for me. Learnt a lot and I think the next one will be better but what do you guys think?

It’s oil on canvas. Cheers for checking it out!

Composition tips?

Because this painting in particular is driving me nuts? I know there’s something not working here but I can’t figure it out?

I’m thinking about knocking the rocks down a bit then having some sort of small wave event to the right of them as the focal point. The idea was like a turquoise s curve that goes out and around the rocks but I dunno. Even just throw some ideas at me?

Been trying to do composition and shapes first lately then building the painting around the idea but I still get stuck like this sometimes (nowhere near as much as I used to though)

This is acrylic on canvas. Thanks for any advice!

Edit - definitely not going for realism with this. Want the feeling of real while keeping it stylized. I have a few references but this scene is largely made up.

Not sure if the nsfw tag is necessary in this sub, but here’s a painting I finally finished

Not something I’d expect a lot of people to want to hang on the wall but it was fun to paint nonetheless… cheers for checking it out!

First three are done with acrylics on canvas where I’m trying to be a little more abstract with things, and the last is with oil - more of an attempt at realism.. (actually the oldest of the four) but yeah let me know what you think? Cheers!

Needed a break from my usual seascapes so I thought I’d pay tribute to what I think was the highlight of my non professional gaming career. Don’t honestly think it will be topped - not because I think games are getting worse but because I’m get older and crankier and things just don’t hit the same…

Anyway just realized that bit of random graffiti in the background is a wasted opportunity… I was thinking rise and shine but you guys probably got something better?
Played it on the orange box back in the day so it’s
Been a long damn time I’ve forgotten most of it…

Also what do you think of the painting so far? Also keen to hear any ideas for the next one. Cheers!

Acrylic on canvas.

Curious what you all think about this one? Was told a couple of days ago while asking for advice on a few paintings (this one included) my strokes or more specifically my way of ‘smearing’ paint looks unprofessional and more akin to play… from someone with over 25 years experience as an artist (whatever that means) honestly my first thoughts were well you’re just a bitter old hag.. but now I wonder if there’s maybe a bit of truth to it?

Let me know what you think? And don’t hold back.. I’m wanting to get as good at this as I can in this lifetime (I’ll probably continue to smear regardless though)

Cause I get stuck in my own head too much… The goal is more stylized rather than total realism. Thanks!

Edit -

All are acrylic on canvas, I am trying to get my work up to gallery level of quality but I’m not really sure if I’m there yet… compositionally, and use of color etc… just anything that stands out to you guys that could be improved I’d love to hear about it? I am aware they are extremely saturated... is that a problem in itself though? Hope that covers everything?

Edit no. 2. Regarding references… I mean I use quite a few but the compositions I try to design myself. Not sure how strict the post requirements here are… ? think that covers everything?
